A slightly cryptic message from the official Twitter of Square Enix's 1st Production Department, the division that's responsible for all the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games.

It says "Next is X" or "X is Next" or "Next, X" or something to that effect.

They even put it in their Avatar image.

Assuming this is a reference to Final Fantasy X, perhaps we can take it to mean that the Vita and PS3 remasters will finally be getting some real PR over the coming weeks.

Since its announcement just ahead of the Tokyo Game Show last September, FFX HD has been brought up in passing during interviews, but Square Enix has not yet shared details or screens for the game.

During the weekend's Taipei Game Show, 1st Production Department producer Shinji Hashimoto was asked by local media if FFX is a remake or a remaster. He responded that it is the latter. "Remaster" refers to HD updates like ICO and Shadow of the Colossus rather than full remakes.

Hopfully we finally get some FFX HD news over the next few weeks :D

Can't wait!

And yes, that is FFX. That avatar image is a picture of Tidus' hair from Final Fantasy Theatrhythm (sp)

I seriously can't wait, I'm just hoping it's a PHYSICAL DISC COPY INSTEAD OF A DOWNLOADABLE.

I bet it will be both disc & psn like ICO. Im excited for this. Finally some FF goodness back in my life. Proper FF goodness. Now FFXII needs one too and I'm all set :ohoho:

I still hope they use the character's high quality models through the entire game, or else it'll be seriously noticeable when the game uses it's low quality character models, therefore making the graphics incredibly dated. If the highest quality character models were used throughout, the game could really stand tall for today's graphics. The PS2 version's nasty low quality models better not be included. Here's what I mean:

Believe it or not, the nasty looking Yuna here was used for over half of FFX, including battle. The nice ones are only usually used for character close-ups in cutscenes.

.. Here was me thinking that since XIII-2 was finished with the 1st Production Team could FINALLY get to finish Versus (Wishful thinking eh?), but of course yet another title comes up instead and puts it back into limbo once again.

:rage:

I want X-2 to be included in a bundle. :sad3: Guess that goes on my things never to happen.

I hope it's physical too, because I probably won't have broadband when it comes out.

X- I thought I read that theta rhythm comes out in 10 days?

You might be right man :lew:

Update 2/6/12 9:40pm eastern: Square Enix updated their Twitter today with a new message, “IX is next,” and new image, indicating that rather than a tease for Final Fantasy X HD, the Twitter updates are actually a countdown to the launch of Theathrhythm: Final Fantasy, which is due for 3DS on February 16 in Japan.

I would imagine when they say "X is Next" they mean developed by the 1st Production Department themselves rather than Square Enix's production department overall. I don't think it will make that much of a difference to Versus XIII, it's likely there are several teams within the 1st Production Dept. Versus XIII being one of them, Final Fantasy X being another. But I think it was always a given the remaster was going to come before Versus XIII.
