Warning, slight spoilers ahead.

Jump gets the scoop on FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 this week (with Famitsu continuing coverage in their next issue), this time, letting us in on a few story details surrounding the game.

The magazine mentions that Lightning is in fact the only remaining relative of Serah. She’s gone off alone, now fighting as a knight to protect a shrine of the Goddess Etro in the land of Valhalla. There are some images of her with Odin in the article.

As for new main character Noel, he is actually from the future. As the last surviving human being from his world, he returns to the past in hopes of changing that fate.

Haha I must really be psychic. I guessed Noel was from the future and that he wants to return to the past and change things. So in other words I was right. :lew: Also Lightning was obviously fighting as a knight to protect Etro's shrine. The only other thing is that she wants to find Vanille and Fang. She wants to save them.

I KNEW she was a bad Valkyrie Profile cosplayer.

Well, in that case he's probably Snow and Serah's child, or something. Just watch the "Who is Noel really?!" debate spring up on the FFXIII section of these forums once the game is out, since I'm fairly willing to bet Square Enix will just imply who he is rather than coming straight out and saying it.

Still, this avoids the :ffs: reaction to the awful "I'm from the future!" reveal that will no doubt happen. At least we're prepared for unoriginality and convoluted tomfoolery this time around...

Well, he does kind of have Snow's facial features...

But, from the future? So what does the make Lightning's rival? :/

I knew it. But does this mean purple guy is from the future too? Since he is apparently related to Noel. Lightning is also obviously doing etro a favor as we already heard.

I hope the plot does not turn out to be cheesy with this time traveling element. Noel is like another Trunks from dragon ball. I also wish that he is not serah's and snow's son. Probably a few generations down the family. But this contradicts the fact that they said Lightning is the only relative of Serah. So Noel is unrelated to her or what? How about Snow? Isn't he more or less a relative?

But it probably explains why Noel is so protective of Serah. Serah dead = Noel non-existent. But it depends whether the game follows static time or alternate time theories. Or are the developers ignoring these important concepts? I mean, it can be easily seen that FFVIII follows the static time rule. But FFI did not follow either as far as I know.

FFI and FFVIII spoilers

If anyone bothers to listen, here's what I mean. Static interpretation of time theory is the interpretation that the universe's flow of time is like a film reel. It's already fated to be this way and can never be changed. There is also a singularity of time. No alternate timelines, etc. No matter what attempt you make to change the future by going to the past, nothing can be changed. What happened will and has happened. It's like ffviii, where ultimecia will die no matter what she do. Squall will have to tell past Edea about the Garden and SeeD ideas. Even though squall appeared to change the past, he didnt. The concept of garden always exist in the first place. He is a mere fated trigger to keep the flow in place.

Now if you assume FFXIII-2 follows the static theory, nothing that Noel do will change his future. If he saw serah's dead body (pure assumption by me) in the future and confirmed she is dead, no matter what he do in the past, future serah will not be revived. Same goes for every other person that he confirms to be dead in the future, or the unfortunate events that have occured.

So the other theory is that the game employs the alternate timelines theory. When Noel time travelled, he actually travelled to a different universe. He can change whatever event or death. This is like what happened in dragonball. But his own universe remains unchanged because individual universes are static by themselves.

The other possible theory, which I hope will not happen. It's something like FFI. In this one, there is a single timeline. It can be changed at will. So it's not static, neither there are alternate universes. So Noel can change his own future by changing his own past. BUT the grandfather paradox arises. If your future is now good because you change it, why do you even need to change it in the first place? An analogy is, if someone goes back to the past and kill his grandfather, it means that he himself will cease to exist. But since he does not exist in the future, who is going to go back in time to kill his grandfather? This results in an endless contradiction that has no answer currently.

Oops I got carried away. I rather believe this game follows the alternate timelines theory. It's implied in the game there are alternate universes anyway (alyssa said in e3 demo).

Anyway, I just felt guilty for spoiling myself... lol

The line "A future where everyone lives" in the trailer from a while back gave this away anyway.

And yeah, I kinda gathered the whole alternate future thingie would link to the multiple ending thing. Though your theory is a kinda interesting read dude.

Possible spoilers, yada yada:
I'm guessing these baddies coming from Val'halla or whatever it is called will have something to do with this possible end of humanity thing? Is Lightning's rival from the future as well? I gotta admit, I'm kinda curious.

OMG I knew I was right, I dont know if its allready been talked about but I swear when I saw the trailer for the first time and i looked at lightings armor I swear her armor reminded me of a Valkayrie. If I remember right theirs a game called Valkayrie profile I played and theirs a place called Valhalla in it. So I hope we get to actually visit that world she's in as well as re-visit it cause I dont want this being a one time deal type of a thing, since it involves valkayries then it simply must have some cool music to go in that stage with a beautiful graphic Im so sure of it.
