This Past Year​

What is something you’re proud of that you accomplished: I paid off a large loan about 3 years early
What was one of the better things that happened: I met some interesting people and realised what I do and do not like in people
What was the single most challenging thing that happened: A string of rejections both personal and professional
What was your biggest personal change from January to December: I moved apartments, improved saving habits and otherwise matured in many ways
What was the best way you used your time: Tutoring friends on some subjects to help them transition careers
What would you do over if you could: Take a specific situation and not speak while heated.
Which game did you put the most hours into: FF XIV by a wide margin
The most fun you had: Probably the first pints meetup I had with my friends since the Pandemic hit.
Your biggest regret: Hurting a couple people because I didn't put the effort in to phrase my words properly; it's a lesson I'll take going forward.
Something you wish you hadn’t bought: Some furniture that I couldn't get through my apartment door that's still waiting on me.
The nicest thing someone did for you: My friend helped me move without prompting at all; I was feckered without them too
A new food/dish you tried: I've tried many more dishes from the Japanese restaurants here. Not a fan of sushi but the rest? top class.
How did you celebrate your birthday: I wanted to spend it alone but I got pulled down to my family home
What’s some of the things you got for Christmas: Pots, pans, socks, 3 bottles of whiskey, rum, cointreau, vodka and a nifty Spider-Man t-shirt!
How are you feeling at this moment: tired and hopeful
What are you worried about: whether Ed Sheeran's terrible Raglan Road cover will ruin relations between Britain and the Republic of Ireland
Where/did you travel this year: No where; I stayed home. I'm thinking 2022 will have more travel
Are you happy with your life right now: Relatively. There are some changes I'd like to make and focus on in 2022

What Were Your Favorites of/During 2021​

Game: In general, FFXIV. I haven't finished EW but just the memories and fun had.
Movie: Spider-Man: No Way Home. What Harry Potter is to some people out there, Spider-Man is to me.
TV Show: Clarkson's Farm was genuinely good television, even if Clarkson's a grumpy aul prick
Book: I re-read a Roddy Doyle book called "Paula Spencer", which is about a 40-something recovering alchoholic mother of 4. It was so very out of left field that it left a mark
Song: Beggin' cover, by Maneskin
Dish/Food: MASHED POTATOES AND GRAVY
Place to eat: Boojum, a burrito place in Dublin
Holiday: Christmas; my brother came home.

This Past Year
Pick three words to describe this past year: Refreshing; Relieving, Different
What is something you’re proud of that you accomplished: I've been selling stuff online just for extra padding money that's come in hand when we needed it.
What was one of the better things that happened: My son got accepted into the school I was hoping he'd get into via a lottery they ran. Very thankful for that!
What was the single most challenging thing that happened: Online learning. I knew it would be a challenge with a 4 year old, but still rough.
What was your biggest personal change from January to December: My son went to school for the first time ever this year and I've had a lot of time to myself. Things are different, but in a good way for all of us.
What would you do over if you could: Easily Christmas. My family got Covid & it caused a bunch of chaos & stress during that time. I'd love to be able to prevent the contact from the start & avoid the mess. Thankfully we are all well & didn't have it bad, but Christmas was a little less Christmasy for me this last year.
Which game did you put the most hours into: Probably Animal Crossing, but that's not really saying much either. Just one of those games I'd play just till I got tired enough to fall asleep for the night.
The most fun you had: Thrifting with both my mom & my sister in law.
Your biggest regret: The Christmas thing above.

The nicest thing someone did for you: I'm always humbled when anyone goes out of their way to do something nice for me, even when it's something little. I've got a great set of family & friends.
A new food/dish you tried: I also tried a lot of different Japanese dishes this year, including a lot of different sushi. I'm way more open to sushi and trying new things, and also have an idea of what I definitely do not like!
How did you celebrate your birthday: Is it weird that I don't really remember?
What’s some of the things you got for Christmas: Sick.
How are you feeling at this moment: I'm just okay at the moment.
What are you worried about: My grandma. She fell off a stool on Christmas Eve & broke a rib & fractured 3 others.
Where/did you travel this year: Traveled a few places this year, but more notably for a wedding up north out of state. It was actually really nice to get away, if only for the weekend.

The New Year
What are you looking forward to most in 2022: My husband starts his new day-shift job after working graveyard for nearly 4 years. It'll change things quite a bit for us & I'm looking forward to it.
What do you hope to improve about yourself in the next year to come: I've been dealing with a lot of self-negativity & occasional depression this year, so I really hope I can work on that. I also feel like I talk an awful lot about myself when I try and relate to topics at hand and it doesn't necessarily come across that way, so I hope I can work on that too.
What do you hope to do more of in 2022: More work around & on the house.
Other than time & money, what do you want more of in the New Year: Hopefully to just be able to get together more with my family.

Uncertainty, reflection, frustration.
What was one of the better things that happened: FFVII Remake concert. KupoCon pop-up (not a convention, just a pop-in place and then a below capacity evening event). Genesis concert. All requiring vaccinations and/or proof of negative tests, etc. And all pretty much happened right after another.
What was the single most challenging thing that happened: Possibly my own mental well-being this year more than any particular moment. I did not adjust very well to the pandemic and despite things being much more open now than they were the year before, the effect on my life and my future plans has been profound.
What was the best way you used your time: I’ve begun a project I can’t really talk about at the moment.
What would you do over if you could: The first four or five months were a complete washout, but then again we were in another lockdown at the beginning of the year. Maybe I shouldn’t be too hard on myself for that.
Which game did you put the most hours into: Final Fantasy XIV. Not an insane amount of hours compared to many people, but enough hours to continue to play the story and side quests. I don’t tend to repeat dungeons or trials or anything unless I really need to.
The most fun you had: Weekend in London for KupoCon pop-up and the FFVII Remake concert, followed by a Genesis concert and then soon after by my cousin’s wedding. If this sounds familiar, because I’ve already mentioned it, it is because it is quite literally the sum of what I was able to do last year in terms of ‘doing things’ out there in the world in Covid-land, besides work and fetching things that is.
Your biggest regret: I wish I had been more productive earlier on in the year, but my frame of mind was shot to hell.
Something you wish you hadn’t bought: I don’t really buy much unless I really want/need it, so I really don’t know about this.
The nicest thing someone did for you: Contacted me / included me.
How did you celebrate your birthday: It was a lockdown birthday, but I ate Greek food and drank mythos and ouzo.
How are you feeling at this moment: I’m not at my best but I’m at a stage where I’m noticing it and figuring out how to pull myself out of it.
What are you worried about: Many things.
Where/did you travel this year: Nowhere during lockdown, obviously, but in the summer I managed to visit Norfolk and then I went up North to attend my cousin’s (four times postponed) wedding. I also went to London for a ‘pop-up’ KupoCon event. At about the same time I attended the FFVII Remake concert, and then a few days later a Genesis concert. Everything which had been postponed due to the pandemic started to happen at once, basically. Essentially all of that is repeated information, due to the nature of the year ‘2021’ for many people, I guess.
Are you happy with your life right now: I’m happy with the concept of life and the wonderful things that exist on our planet, but I am not happy with the place I am at or where I fit in the world. If that makes sense.

The Last Thing(s) You Did / Before the New Year
Who was the last person you saw: Family. I spent New Year’s eve at my sister’s place.

Who was the last person to call you: Cannot remember. Doesn’t happen often. I rang first the last time I was on the phone.

What did you last cry over: Spilt milk.

What was the last game you played: FFXIV: Endwalker. I was about a third of the way through it before the New Year.

The New Year
What are you looking forward to most in 2022: Figuring stuff out. Not the act of figuring stuff out, because that is HELL. I mean the end result of having answers in front of me that I can then act on.
What do you hope to improve about yourself in the next year to come: I really need to work on my self-marketing as I suck at it. I hate it with a passion and it goes against every fibre of my being, but it is the way the world works, I guess.
What do you hope to do more of in 2022: Living. Not just ‘existing’. I need to sort the way my brain is wired a bit first I think.
Other than time & money, what do you want more of in the New Year: Sense of calm. My mind becoming more ‘present’ and silencing (or taming) the constant cacophonous chatter of thoughts dancing aimlessly within my brain.
What game(s) are you looking forward to: Final Fantasy Origins: Stranger of Paradise, Forsaken, God of War: Ragnarok. FFXVI too, if it is to come out this year.

What Were Your Favorites of/During 2021
Game: FFXIV: Endwalker, although I did not complete it before the end of 2021 and I only encountered some of the deeper themes which I love the most after we’d already passed into 2022.
Guardians of the Galaxy deserves an honourable mention. That game is quite unexpectedly fantastic.

Movie: Until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t actually been to the cinema since the pandemic began. As a result, I did not go to the cinema at all in 2021 but I did manage to watch Shang-Chi and Black Widow on Disney+. I liked both in very different ways, but Shang-Chi is probably my favourite.
I didn’t watch any new movies that I can recall beyond this, which is quite sad when I think about it.
I have since been to the cinema a week or so ago when local children went back to school and the screen was pretty much empty. It was the only way I’d do it. I saw Spider-Man: No Way Home. But this was this year, not last. Still, since it technically came out last year at an inopportune, busy time, I guess I could say that it counts for 2021. In which case, that definitely was my favourite. I’ll expand on that in the movie thread at a later date.

TV Show: Wandavision. A pleasant surprise to be sure. Funny, mysterious, eerie. It kept people guessing and theorising all the way through (in a way I haven’t experienced in a while) and had a satisfying, emotionally impactful conclusion. There was a particular joy in finding people theorising on Twitter and YouTube each week.

Book: I haven’t read any fiction for quite a while, which seems strange. I tend to read academic/non-fiction books for research purposes instead, which might sound boring but the stuff I read never really seems boring to me. I can’t recall one that specifically came out in 2021, but of those that I read in 2021, and were of a very readable nature, I enjoyed Helen of Troy: Goddess, Princess, Whore by Bettany Hughes (2005). It has been out for quite a while and there have been some new developments since, but I like her style.

Song: Not sure if I actually listened to any ‘new’ music. Or if I had a track I played more often than others. So in the absence of a proper answer I’ll just say La-Hee.

Dish/Food: Souvlaki.

Place to eat: I do not know…

Holiday: My trip up North to attend my cousin’s wedding. Not only was this the first time I had seen most family since 2019, but I extended it to see other places of emotional significance to me. And I saw about fifty seals on the rocks right up close to me at St. Mary’s Lighthouse. Pretty awesome.

What was your favorite seasonal event: Christmas Writing Event [2021] - Oh, no! Santa resigned?!
Which event do you hope to see/look forward to next year: I keep seeing the demand for Moogle Murder Mystery 3 so I will try my best to bring this into being sometime this year! It takes ages to prepare though.
What is your favorite Cegling: Because it is not a penguin, but an ice dragon. I would never dare make one of LJ's sons a penguin.

Favorite FFF-specific Meme(s): I feel like Adam has been teased too much, so I’ll let him hang up his wasp-shoes and fix his broken television and instead put forward LJ’s toe photobombs.
Which item do you hope to buy in the Mogshop next year: Not me specifically (and certainly not alone), but I do hope some people buy some of the characters in the Mascot Market so that they can finally become forum smileys.
