Honestly, we need this. It seems like a ridiculous amount of members here have been banned for rather insignificant reasons, mainly that they don't live up to the high posting standards that have been set for most of the forums. You can't even make a spam thread in the Spam Coliseum without having to go through a bunch of moderators, for Pete's sake. Now, I can understand wanting to enforce the rules and keep a high quality of posts, but I do not understand why members who are deemed "offensive" and "irritating" should be COMPLETELY isolated from the entire community.

My solution- make a single, PUBLIC board that ANY member can post at, whether they are banned or not. This will contain "rebellious" members while still avoiding that Secret Police feeling where random people you know mysteriously disappear in the middle of the night without any type of public defense. It would also be very entertaining and require very little moderation, since the standards would be so low that virtually NOTHING would break the rules in that board.

Most of the banned members are not people who post porn, advertise on the forum, or engage in illegal activities. Those people deserve to be perma-banned. What we're talking about here is people who post things that are a little to "edgy" for the normal poster- you know, flame threads, "post while you're high" threads, etc. Containing them into one board while still allowing the average member to discuss topics with them would kill two birds with one stone. I've seen this done on other forums, and it's worked great. So, what do you think?

You sir are the absolute fucking truth.

Here here!

I think you're on to something. We need a forum that we can go to that is free from a lot of these mods. Good thinking dude.

The only people I have banned here lately are people who have been asked numerous upon numerous times to follow rules and don't listen, no matter how many warnings/infractions are issued upon them. People whom have posted inappropriate images, advertising accounts and continuous flaming and don't listen after the first three times I warn them. I can't always do everything right, but if I feel somebody who won't listen the first few times to the rules should be banned, then they should be.

edited to add: some of these mods? Me, Riku and BustaMo (asides from the RPG mods) seem to be the only ones doing our jobs here lately. What do you expect out of us when we're trying to run a forum, keep it clean and keep the drama down with 100s of active members?

Nah, I have to disagree. It DOES say in the rules, somewhere, that infractions, warnings and bannings are up to the Moderators discretion. Rules are rules, and if you break them, you are punished. The rule is that once you reach ten infraction points, you are banned for however long that member of staff feels you deserve to be banned.

Albeit, maybe the ban dates should be a little more leniant, but at the end of the day, people who break the rules are not people who we, generally, want to be on the forums.

What I have happened to notice is that the members who are banned quickly have the really nasty attitudes - the one that comes equipped ignorance and, frankly, arrogance. They "don't care about the internet" and so push the staff to their edge. Adamant, no offence intended, but you're not a member of staff who has to deal with such things. Often, they are carried off to PM - I was once accused of getting high when I rape cheerleaders. What would you do in that instance? I gave her a warning, then she continued it, reached ten points, was suspended, blew her chance in prison, and was then perma-banned.

Plus, Adamant, if you look in the Staff HQ, we're all on edge, because we've been tipped off about a raid on the forums. Naturally, we're all on the look out and, personally, if I catch any of it in the debate forum [which I already have] or the Kingdom Hearts Series, I'm going to warn someone.

There's also the problem with inactivity with a number of the Global Moderatos, which does not help matters much.

So, no, I don't much agree with this. The punishment for breaking the rules is to be banned/suspended, so giving leniancy on that kind of destroys the point that you try to make by banning them.

Well, apologies for that, but I can't do much about that, can I? My mod powers are quite restricted and they only work for the Role Playing section.

And as for that idea, I'd don't really like it ... rules are rules.

People are banned for a reason. They are banned because they have abused the rights they are given. Give them the right to post again and they will surely abuse it again.

Oh Faith, I know you've been doing your job. I'm sorry, I forgot to add your name in there. I know your Mod powers are restricted and I know you do your job.

In her defence, Faith, Lady Aerith has always mentioned your name before when talking about this problem. I'm sure she merely forgot to write your name this time. We talk often on MSN and she ALWAYS includes you in the discussion.

EDIT:
Lady Aerith posted before me xD

Well if it's going to come down to there not being enough members of staff, isn't the answer to the problem apparent?
I personally think it's a bad idea too. Those members have abused their rights repeatedly, and their punishment should be hard

Make a change to the prisoner part, so that members can see the people banned and hear their plea to be released instead of leaving the people who banned them to decide.

It has nothing to do with the members, only the staff concerned though. Why would us normal members care what they have to say on the matter when we don't get to make the decision on whether or not they're unbanned?

In experience, I know that that's a bad idea. Soon, you get the accomplices and friends, who have not yet been banned, causing all kinds of drama to get them out. Take ACF, for an example. They had to do some major tightening up to get that stopped.

Hmm, I don't know...I don't agree with making a public board that any members can post in, including banned members. Wouldn't that make our forums a bit...disorganized? I mean, it really would give a bad image because our main thing here is keeping it clean.

Usually, those who are banned are people who flames, disrespects other members, advertise, etc. I mean, they ARE given warnings, as LA stated, and yet they continued doing it.
Doesn't that say something? So basically, they're asking to be banned. Having a public board that any banned members can access might result to more flaming and such. Put them together and it'll be one chaotic event.

Really, I do think we need some strictness in this forums. It wouldn't hurt because our main goal is to have fun with friendly members, keep topics clean and be a good example to others.

EDIT: One more thing, I've seen some particular FF forums that kinda has the same idea as yours, although I don't actually know if they allow banned members to post. I was actually quite appalled by the stuff they talk about there. I'm afraid that our forum might result in the same way because "banned members" are usually rude and obnoxious.

I wasn't having a go at you, just putting a statement there. :P

I feel so loved ... and yeah, this is a thread that's drawn attention to many members, so we should expect this.

But yet, keeping on topic, members who have been banned (whether temporary or forever no matter what they've done) should NOT have the right to post. They'll only abuse that right to post again and all in all, it doesn't seem like it'll be a very popular decision anyway.

However, let's just see what others have to say first.

Agreed. At the end of the day, they're not welcome on the forums and if they want to post somewhere that badly, then I'm sure they'll find somewhere else to wreck; but not here.

You can even make your own forum for free. Although, that might be too much effort and less fun for them.

The moderators who are concerned with the banning make the decision though. It's only fair, seeing as it was them who banned the member. A jury might not be as unbiased towards the situation

Terrible idea. As much as I' for free speech, and you guys know I am, giving people who were banned the right to post is stupid. They disobeyed rules before, giving them a place to post will just let them do it again. I doubt they'll learn, they'd probably just make threads saying how cruel and unfair staff is here.
