From what I've always believed was that Square always tried to make the games on certain standards. Actually certain ratings. They didn't want to make games some parents wouldn't let them play. It would lower their sells. Anyways times are changing and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of blood here and there now. So many games have blood in it, but it does give them a stricter rating.

I don't recall if there was any blood in FFIX or X. You can kinda argue that the stuff that appears when the bats absorb your health in XII is blood.

Not really. Blood isn't a bad thing. It happens IRL. Kids have seen it before. The last two FF main series games have been rated for 15 or older, and I've seen blood in games with that rating.
