FFXIII: Leona Lewis

All that I'm saying is that at what cost are SE paying when they chose this song? If someone doesn't understand a Japanese song, then are they going to better understand what FF is about if they use Leona Lewis? I'm of the opinion that they won't.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter all that much to me. The theme song isn't used much to my knowledge in any FF game. For example, I have no idea what the FFX theme song is. I'm pretty sure it's not the piano music played at the beginning. I find the in-game music much more important.

I agree with this. I also don't see why they couldn't just translate the Japanese theme song into English or compose a new theme song and have a Western singer record it. Since music is a very big part of the FF series, it just seems in poor taste really.

I love this song and I think it was a good choice for the game. I'm also glad I don't have to listen to a Japanese pop song that I don't know one word of what is being sung.

I really don't like the song at all. I hope it is not used much in the actual game. Even the use of it in all the marketing makes me cringe when i watch the commercials for the game. I am really looking forward to this game as well which makes not enjoying the advertisement for the game itself feel like a two headed snake.

I wish they had chosen someone else for this, I mean the song is okay, could have been better too as the theme. Not a big fan at all.

I am a big fan of Leona Lewis. In fact, I'm seeing her in concert in June. :jess:

I've been following her ever since she first auditioned for X Factor and think she's done really well for herself so far. It's a big thing for her to have her song as the theme for the game. I don't mind it myself. Perhaps not the best song they could've picked, but I'd rather it be a song I understand than a Japanese one.

For a while, I've often thought that My Hands is about Serah. I think as people start to go through the game, they'll understand why. The song's slow at the beginning, but it's to be expected with a song from Leona.

I do agree that I Got You would've made a better song, but have you considered the fact they couldn't use it since they were going to release it as a single BEFORE My Hands was chosen? Happy could've easily been the theme as well. At the end of the day, it's Square-Enix chosing the song and not her. I really don't think both parties will lose anything at the end of the day.

A decent song, could've been better. But I'm satisfied with it at the end of the day. I just don't see why I hear some people think a simple song is going to ruin the game.

I like her, she is a good perfomer. I myself remember her winning XFactor and Ive liked her ever since. Im glad she was chosen for the lead song to the game as this could help push Final Fantasy into a different crowd. I also likr the song and it gives me goosebumps when I hear it.

Personally I dont think they could have got anyone else to do the job better, and she does a decent enough job of it, afterall Leona is all about the voice rather than some big stage show so she was an obvious choice.

However, I'm unsure about the song they chose and they could have actually picked a better one that uses Leona's vocal range and would have probably fit better with the trailer.

Tbqh I'm quite glad they did pick Leona though afterall the likes of GaGa or Pixie Lott would have probably made a right hash of it and it would not have sounded right at all.

it was quite dissapointing when i found out that leona louis was replacing Nobuo Uetmatsu .... but saying that 'my hands' does fit the game quite well.

it was a good song choice for keeping up with the times :) well done Square Enix

Acht, I've liked the trend of translating Japanese songs in to English for our versions but I really have no problems with My Hands. It's a fuckin belter of a tune and she's doing well recently (I See You from Avatar, anyone?), I don't see why we can't just accept that it's a decent song that keeps in with the ballad themes we tend to have in these games. It's not as though the song stops you from playing the game, but if it does then feel free to donate your copy of XIII to me. :dave:

Painful, aweful music. Just stick with instrumentals. Having a x-factor 'winner' featuring in a game is ridiculous and a sign of the times in the entertainment industry.

meh, 'my hands' didn't really give me that high fantasy feel, i thought it was a bad choice for the main theme but that is my opinion.

I hated the song at first, now I really like it and I think it fits in with the game.

Initially I was skeptical about the song and brushed it off almost instantly, despite liking Leona Lewis and her material. However after I watched the trailer and listened to the lyrics I understood why they chose it. There is an obvious message in the song that relates to Final Fantasy XIII so it's no random selection and it works nicely with the trailer (it's explosion at the end gave me chills). I think the Japanese theme song isn't so great and prefer 'My Hands' a lot more. I'm happy with the decision.

I was also skeptical of the song chosen at first,
it didnt seem like a SquareEnix move to me, it was different for sure,
but when I saw he preview of the song with the story,
I loved it, it was puuuurrrrrfect, well wouldn't go that far,
but it actually does suit the game and her songs are not awful,
not the greatest but i'm no hater of her.
