K guys, I want to get playing Oblivion again. And last time I played I lost quite abit of gold because I couldnt understand the whole bribing thing lol!

So can someone please explain it to me and maybe give me some tips?

Thanks guys :ohshit:

I think it depends on your speechcraft skill. The higher that is the easier it is to persuade, coherce, or joke your way to information. Bribing is there for those people like myself who have low speechcraft skills. When you create your character your speechcraft will be higher under certain birthsigns and different races. Im not sure which ones but You'll find an answer online somewhere. There are also items that boost your speechcraft. Just check out their abilities in the inventory.

Just look at the faces they make when you hover the selector over Coerce, Joke, Boast, and Compliment.

so iirc.... there are four levels of the disposition value

So like, for example

Tar-Meena

Compliment - =D
Coerce - =|
Boast - =]
Joke - >=[

You'll want to use the rotation of the disposition circle to your advantage by using the lowest level of it on the most disliked action of the NPC. Always pay attention so you don't end up getting like 20+ disposition by doing what they like and then forgetting you have to do an action they don't like and end up losing 30 disposition.

Edit: also, if you feel that your target's life is... Expendible, you can get your money back by beating the living daylights out of them.

If it's a key character, after knocking them unconscious, just go stealth mode and keep trying to pickpocket them until they are conscious again, you will eventually have the pickpocket window open, and if you're good enough with pickpocketing, it wont take a lot of patience to get your gold back.

Should take advantage of Save and Load if it's becoming a pain. :monster:

Yeah, thats what was happening to me when I last played. I was getting peeved cause I hadnt saved before the bribing and I lost cash and disposition. Mega annoyed at myself lol. Thanks for the advice guys, I know to pay attention now!!

Also updated post with a tip about how to get your money back :wacky:

*Mod Edit: Can you please elaborate on your posts in post count sections. One liners are spam in post count sections. Thank you. =)*

Rofl, thanks for that! I was going in tombs for ages, looting people and chests. And getting quite abit of gold back for items, then I go ruin it by screwing up my bribes :|
So yeah, Im gonna knock some muthers out :D

Just remember though, speechcraft has nothing to do with lower prices. I think it was call merchant skill. Speechcraft is easy to level up, I actually found myself running into to town and sitting there for hours and getting everyone to like me in town. I was trying to get more quests, since at the time i had guide. Mmmm Dark Brotherhood though...
