This is from the Gamescon event in Cologne. The title is self-explanatory. Check out the video here.

Love it or hate it? My reaction was just "meh".

X2

I'm not an MMPORG player really whatsoever, and although it visually looks quite stunning considering it's only in it's Alpha stage, it didn't really have any "WOW" moments. It may do eventually, but there was no where near enough footage to say anything positive or negative.
Thanks for the vid :ryan:

Well the graphics look quite good. Other than that there isn't much to report.

It wasn't a long clip and it wasn't good quality sound so we couldn't hear what sort of things were going on.

Hard to tell anything from that, or about how battles are really going to work either.

That said, I'm glad I saw it as I'd want to know more. Thanks for posting this.

Well the graphics were wonderful! But it would be impossible to judge the game in any other way based on this short clip of randomness. Gameplay wise it looked like any other MMO.

Agreed with above there. And to add the what I expect is the 'warrior' class seems to be using sword magic (possible sorcerer class? I haven't played FF11 so I dunno) and also, if they were playing battle music there... We're screwed :gonk: don't like it at all if it is.

considering that it is early in production id say it looks alrite...I aint playing it if the costs r lik 11

I hope it's something like Guild Wars. Purchase at store, play for free. Because monthly payments are @#$%.

Although i play guild wars a lot, but, that game sucks and i hope this new FF isn't like it IMO. I hope its something more like runescape as far as leveling goes, more skills that just fighting. but this looks good, ill defo get it for asap.

Unfortunately, whilst I agree with you on that idea, I don't think it'll happen, mainly because on one of the FFXIV Official Sites, Europe I think, it says montly costs: TBA :gonk:

The map is really amazing. The graphics as a whole are very amazing
But that all I have to say.

Wasn't it obvious without the TBA thing? I mean, we are talking about SE after all...

But I do hope there will at least be a free trial version.

By the way, just so I can have an approximate picture of the price, how much was FFXI's monthly cost? The answer can be in US $ or British £, I don't really mind.

@Nokoi- Exactly what I thought. I would buy this definitely if SE pulled a Guild Wars manoeuvre. Unfortunately, SE are money snatching at heart, and will do anything for more bucks, pounds, yen, euro whatever....... Guild Wars 2 is somewhere on the horizon, I wonder if that will be better as an alternative.

Yarly, we know they love their money. Although I'm pretty sure they've recently announced they've lost shit loads, mainly because of buying Edios.

It may be for the best, we can sue them then for hidden charges. :monster:

WowI can say that the graphics are :awesome: Iliked the video but ya I expect more than this. Final Fantasy XIV will be :awesome: but we need more info. The world and gameplay looks good. I expect to see freeplaythough. WITHOUT PAYING!!!

Yeah, I was really happy they were sued because of FFXI.
Hope the same thing happens with FFXIV, at least if it'll be as bad as FFXI. Though, I don't like MMOs anyway.

I hope they stop making them... really... at least not as part of the main FFs..

Yeah.. Sucks about the monthly fees.

I might get this but with monthly fees I'll have to think really hard about how often I will actually play this.

FFXI required HOURS of play for MONTHS non-stop in order to achieve anything.. And I guess playing like that is getting your moneys worth. However I could never afford that much time and just wanted to casually play, which meant I was paying ridiculous amounts for little play time. Sometimes I wouldn't even have played in a month, yet I was still paying for it.

If FFXIV has monthly fees I might have to think hard about buying it, unless with the "lack of leveling system" it means that casual players (coz I'm not a hardcore MMO man, I could never sit there all day just levelling, I'd get bored) can get right into having a wonderful experience and feel like it is good without having to suffer from zombification.

Buy some Holy Water :monster:

I agree about playing a lot in order to achive something.
It takes a lot of time to level up and each job has it's own level (I still can't understand why it is so stupid). I read about getting sub job in level 20, so I thought "okay, lets level up to something like level 20 in order to see most of what the game has to offer". I played and hardly leveled up to level 10.
I wanted as well to try other jobs, but it is not fun to start from level 1 with each job. So I just gave up :gonk:

The no-level thing, as well as the weapon based jobs (or whatever the Armoury system is.) sounds very nice and not as time consuming as in FFXI. But I still will try only the free trial (if there will be one) because I don't really have that much money as well as free time. Only if I'll really fall in love with the game, I may as well monthly pay for it.
But only at months in which I'll have many free days.

Visually it's looking good. I really like the monster design so far. I don't really know what to make of the gameplay at this stage. It's a bit hard to decipher with the Japanese commentary and not many objects (bars, buttons, etc.) giving anything away.

Well it looks good visually by the looks of the battle system at the moment it is no where near as good as 11 but its in early stages so it doesn't matter at this point.

My reaction to this is the same reaction I have with all other MMOs. I don't feel that it is worth the monthly payment. A one time fee is fine, I can deal with a 50 dollar payment in order to purchase the game, but every MMO should be free to pay, imo. I know, in order for them to keep it up and running, they need money to pay for it, but like I said, I don't feel that it is worth the money. I'm content with paying my 50 dollars for Final Fantasy XIII and playing it whenever I feel like it for free.
