when did you first suspect that
tidus did not actually exist and that he was just a dream?

Yup i pretty much agree with 420 ink there. I never suspected anything until the scene on the boat in zanarkand where it tells you.
Also i think outta decency you should have put spoiler in the thread title for people who havent played this game yet.

Yeah, 420 has got it nailed. They didn't really hint well enough at it for me to clock on tbh. xD

I even played through not too long after and paid attention for clues and to my memory I couldn't find any.

i dont think they ment to hint, i think they wanted people to be like WOAH! wtf? tho it did kinda ruin the game for me

When I first turned my PS2 on, duh.

Yeah, what 420 said, it was more a shock factor. It didn't even slightly hint. Put you in the mindset of Tidus, really. Here you are, just adapting to the world then you get told you're a dream. Wow. I think it was a game twist, I really didn't see it coming. Random but definitely shock-factor.

Yeah. No idea here too. It wasn't hinted at.

I guess the only hint I can think of would be the fact that Tidus had come from Zanarkand, and that Zanarkand in the Spira Tidus visits was destroyed a thousand years ago. But when I was playing the game I believed that he had time travelled, or that his zanarkand was of a different realm or something.

I never guessed that he was
a dream
, probably because that is rather messed up and I didn't think they'd be that cruel. :wacky:

I thought he had time travelled too, and had no idea that he was a
dream
or that he'd have to
pretty much die in the end
. I was kinda wondering how they expected to wrap the ending up logically.. but I guess they did.

Stupid lazy fayth.

I agree with like everyone above, I totally thought Sin had taken him 1000 years in the future, and when I found out what was REALLY the case I was just like o_O

But nah, it doesn't even drop hints, you only find out when you are told, I don't think there was anything that could have given it away

It actually took me a bit to understand the whole dream concept. I mean it's still not an easy puzzle to unravel, but the more you look into it, replay the game, and discuss it, the clearer the story becomes.

I personally wasn't surprised by it all and it made things that took place earlier in the game, make more sense. Like all the Fayth that show up throughout the game, talking to Tidus and in flashbacks, you understand their purpose and their role in the plot.

I swear Tidus wasn't a dream at the beginning, when he was in Zanarkand. He was real then, wasn't he?

But no, I thought that he was always real, even in Spira.

No he was never
real,
unless Tidus as a
dream
was based on a real Tidus thousands of years ago. But nevertheless Tidus never existed in the
real world
.

Zanarkand was kept alive via the dreams of the Fayth, and so all its inhabitants and everything you saw at the begining
didn't actually exist in reality.

But he didn't know this, he believed himself to be real. I guess in many aspects he is
real
in that he was breathing, living, and considered himself real. But he was really only the result of the
dreaming
of the Fayth.

See I'm slightly confused there. Although Sin didn't take him 1,000 years in the future, Sin still took him from
dream Zanarkand to present Spira
, right? And
Jecht wasn't real either, right?

I never even guessed. I always thought that Sin had simply dragged him from the past. xD It was definitely a shock for me when they revealed that.

Although, I thought the way they revealed it was rather anti-climatic, after the epic fight with Seymour. Sorta disappointing. It didn't even get an FMV, which it should have, since it was one of the biggest twists in the game..

Correct,
being brought into the 'real' world, made them real although they never knew any different anyway, it's like having a vivid dream I guess, it feels real right til the point of waking up, so if you never wake up...?

Right I'm confused now. I just got to the top of gagazet last night, so witnessed the seen where tidus is told
that he is a dream of the fayth, So the dream Zanarkand doesn't exist, except for the fayth and the dreams it creates. However the fayth also says that Tidus and Jecht have become more than just a dream because they have been touched by Sin (and thus have become involved with the REAL world) SO how did he get from the dream world to the real world again? and does the dream just exist in like a different dimention, or over the top of old zanarkand?
Arrrghhh Brain HURTS!!!

Just like everyone else, I never expected it. I thought he was brought from the past too. Although I knew something was fishy because the FMV where Tidus
disappears
was spoiled for me.

I agree, it was one of the biggest twists in the game but when it was revealed it didn't seem like a big deal. I think that scene could have been done much better.

The fayth are dreaming it, so its just like...a dream of the fayth, except its liek a collective dream of all the fayth, its not another dimention or anything, its like when you or I dream, only, sharing the dream with lots of other people I guess :wacky:

Sin was created by Yu Yevon who was from the original Zanarkand in the real world, so Im guessing he can travel back and forth at will? That's the only explanation I can think of as to why/how Jecht ended up in Zanarkand and became real, he touched Sin whilst in the sea at(dream) Zanarkand. Then Jecht became Braskas final aeon after the pilgrimage, becoming Sin, which meant he TOO could travel to dream Zanarkand and took Tidus back to the real world, making him more than just a dream :gasp:

I hope this is making sense :gonk:
