I didn't believe this and i still dont really..but here is what i keep hearing;

Square-Enix are thinking of re-releasing FFIX on the Nintendo Wii. Before you bash this and fire me down and brand me a liar, you might want to read on.

Square-Enix were apparantly interested in remaking a classic-style Final Fantasy game that hasn't yet been remade. A game with an old fashioned FF feel to it that was worthy of a remake.

What fits the bill better than FFIX (As Square-Enix are reported to have thought).

My own explanation (if this were true) is that they seem to be looking for the Nintendo Wii audence because A) The audience is HUGE B) FF started out with Nintendo, heck, if the N64 wasn't such a poor console in terms of specs and sales, FFVII would have been on it and FF today may be different...but hey.

Anyway, personal opinions aside. Who would LIKE to see an FFIX remake on the Wii? Personally i say no. I don't really believe the rumour, told to me by a friend and then i found lots of talk of it on Youtube. I cant find a proper source just yet but i'm searching.

Legally, i don't think it can be done either but we'll wait and see. Opinions?

I don't think IX needs a remake, the game is amazing as it is! The graphics look beautiful the game play is great. The music is great and I really don't think IX needs a remake at all v.v

I don't think I could see it happening either, simply because you wouldnt be getting much of the wii features. Unless it was remade for the wii and the game came with a plug in controller, then it might be workable.

I personally don't know how it would work on the wii, the designs of characters should be okay (if they go along the same lines as FF4 DS) but as for using the wiimote... I can't see how that would work tbh o_O also, I can't see a lot of people clocking in enough time and effort on a wii, since I always view it as the casual gamer's choice.

Also, could ye provide an official link plox? :wacky:

Agree 100%, although IF FFIX was remade, i'd like it on the PS3, or a PS console rather than a Nintendo console.

I still cant decide between FFVII and FFIX on which is the best. I think they're almost equal, perhaps FFVII is a bit better, but i think because of the way the PS1 was phasing out when the PS2 was coming out, most people over-looked or just ignored FFIX when in fact it was the last 'best' FF game they have done IMO

I don't know whether to believe the rumour. I hope it's nothing more but who knows, Square have recently announced FF games for the 360 and Wii consoles.

Agree with you too.

I haven't got an official link, it's purely word of mouth at the moment and said to have come from a source but i have no idea where the source is. I've searched on google but no luck.

p.s

My sig (which i made myself) shows my love for FFIX :-)

Meh. To me it sounds like a bit of a fib.

But if it were true, it might be nice to replay the game with better graphics and voiceovers, but it doesn't really need it. I wouldn't be suprised if it wouldn't sell to well myself, because the majority of Wii owners are more casual gamers (mainly casual gamers who like the combination of a fun pass time and exercise) who don't really have time to get into an in depth game like Final Fantasy 9. If they really felt the need to remake it, they are better off remaking it for PS3, DS, or even PSP.

What this game does not need a rermake!!! I would be happy if there was but I just can not imagine it happening. This game is already too freakin great. I would prefer this on ps3 not wii. Where have you heard these IX WII rumors?

As soon as a source of some description is posted, I'll be happy to move this over to Square-Enix News. That aside, I feel the need to ask people to keep the remake discussions to the designated stuck thread at the top of the FFIX forum. Cheers.

I don't think an FFIX remake would be at all necessary. Compared to FFVII and FFVIII, FFIX's graphics have aged rather well. Although, if it got made for the Wii, it would have to use the classic controller / gamecube controller, as I can't picture it working with the Wii remote.

If it did get remade for Wii though, I'd imagine that Nintendo would have to pay a load of money to Sony first?

Where did you read this? Could you maybe provide a link to the webpage so we could read ourselves. Hmmm I dont see why they would remake IX i mean theyve got so much goin on right now with FFXIII collection and the other spin-offs, i dont see how they could have the time right now to remake it. Sounds a bit funny to me.

Really, the N64 had better specs than the ps1, it was that nintendo went with cartridges over CDs, and square wanted to use CDs so they could make a huge ass game

I dont think a remake is needed, although there was talk of a remake on the ps2 not long after ffix was released, like a yearish later

If you want to get a bit technical, then yes, the N64 had slightly better specs than the PS1 but the PS1 was still a superior console. It displayed games at the same resolution but with much much more polygons.

And Nintendo's choice to stick with the carts was a major mistake when you think they could have had FF7 on the N64 but they couldn't because the carts were so poor.

It is/was costly and difficult to develop for ROM cartridges because their limited storage capacity constrained the game's content, which is basically what you said.

ROM Carts were also costly to make and harder to make duplicates (unlike CD's for the PS1) so this was another drawback.

Game cartridges are more resistant than CDs to physical damage, but they are sometimes less resistant to long-term environmental damage, particularly oxidation or wear of their electrical contacts causing a blank or frozen screen, or static electricity. Console cartridges are usually larger and heavier than optical discs, requiring greater storage space. They also have a more complex manufacturing processes; cardridge-based games were usually more expensive to manufacture than their optical counterparts. The cartridges held a maximum of 64 MB of data,[63] whereas CDs held over 650 MB.[64] As fifth generation games became more complex in content, sound, and graphics, it pushed cartridges to the limits of their storage capacity. Games ported from other media had to use data compression or reduced content to be released on the N64. Extremely large games could be made to span across multiple discs on CD-based systems, while cartridge games had to be contained within one unit since using an additional cartridge was prohibitively expensive (and was never tried). Due to the cartridge's space limitations, full motion video was not usually feasible for use in cut-scenes. The cut-scenes of some other games used graphics generated by the CPU in real-time

(last paragraph from Wiki).

All that is why FFVII came to be on the PS1.

And i'm not dissing the N64, it was good, but obviously not as good as the PS1 was.

Anyway i cant post a website because i'm looking for one myself, if you read my posts in this thread i said that i heard from word of mouth and youtube. Apparantly there is a website out there with info but it's Japanese and we're waiting for a translation.

Google around and find out then post here with more info

This was my initial concern... But then I remembered that the two FFXII games are on the PS2 and the DS. Given the ridiculously high volume of games that Squenix has been pushing in recent years I don't think that finances are even being considered anymore.

But anyway, I could actually see this game being done. I don't for a second think it will happen... but it is interesting to consider. The character designs are on par with the Wii's blatant refusal to accomplish realism, the rest of the gameplay and designs appeal to the younger audiences while the story is, in reality, pretty dark which draws in the older audience.

But how much would be changed to make this game happen? Having a battle system that uses menu's would be a wii bit difficult, wouldn't it?

I also dont think a remake is needed, playing the old game over again is just as fun. If however they were to remake it i can only hope they dont tamper too much and only give it an in game graphics boost. Not sure about you guys but I'd hate the Idea of them adding voices when most ppl have gotten there own experience from the game and imagined how the characters would sound. Thats the one real downside to a remake imo, trying to alter the current view ppl have of the game they love.

I think that's why i dont like the newer FF games. I HATE listening to the voices in-game. They did it with games like Oblivion on the 360. It ruins the game IMO.

You can't THINK, or IMAGINE how they'd sound and it's just layed out for you and sometimes the voice acting is poor, or doesn't sound like you want it to. It's better just having text on the screen if you ask me.

But hey, Square-Enix are doing it for a reason, maybe more people like it than not.

Voice acting was bad in X, but much improved in XII, I think it will get better.
