DLFlux, that was a little ... confusing, but that might be a good explanation. However, I've come up with a new theory. What if the Doctor wrote a diary of his travels in the past and left it someplace by accident? Then this other "Doctor" could have picked it up, become extremely fascinated and wanted to be him. It could be the book that he did when he was the human John Smith in the third series when he was hiding with Martha.

On the other hand, though, he's instantly recognized himself in all previous instances of meeting a past self, even when he doesn't remember the previous meeting, like in all of the multi-doctor specials (save Time Crash, in which he does remember). Heck, he recognized himself even when his other self was rather warped by the curious situation.
Or he's the Meddling Monk. Or a random time traveller. Or even a con man. There have been fake Doctors before. Including one built by the Daleks back in the Hartnell era, come to think of it.
It can't be the book from the Family of Blood two parter, as the Christmas special predates the incidents of FoB, which took place only a couple years before WWI, and the Christmas special is further back in the 1800's. It could easily be another book. He has kept a 900 year journal at least, though he hasn't taken if from the Tardis as far as I know.
Again, I say it ought to be the meddling monk from Season 3, even though it won't be.
Addendum: Oh HELL yes. This guy isn't the Meddling Monk, Patrick Stewart might be, though.

The new Doctor will be announced on Doctor Who Confidential on BBC3 tomorrow (5.35-6.10pm) apparently.
And I really enjoyed this year's Christmas special, though it was great fun, especially David Morrissey's performance.

That's good, means a clean slate like they used to do back in the day. Just what the series needs imo. Though I've heard that Donna may be making a comeback >< Not that I disliked the character at all but whats the point in giving her such a strong send off when all they are going to do is bring her back anyway! and the seires should keep moving on and finding new faces, not keep bringing back old ones.
I hope the Daleks or Cybermen don't dominate the new seires again either. Allow another old enemy to make a comeback, or maybe even a completly new enemy.

I hope the new series strays away from Earth abit more.
I know the Doc has a soft spot for Earth and he was exiled here, but the amount of times it's been under attack is getting abit silly. More weird planets with weird creatures and weird stories please.
Hopefully now Moffat is taking over the writing, we'll be getting alot more Library/Don't Blink style episodes. Not that I have anything against RTD, I think he did great.

Agreed. I'm really looking forward to the series now that Moffat is taking over as lead writer. His episodes were always the more enjoyable episodes of the modern series (Library, Don't Blink as you say, but also The Satan's Pit and the one with the clockwork androids). I think he has a tendency to be a lot more quirky than RTD, and lots of fresh new ideas that don't just involve an alien invasion of Cardiff or London.... Or Cardiff pretending to be London.
The new Doctor was a shock, and totally unexpected. But he looks quirky enough. I know a lot of people are getting angry at how young he is, and I agree that I am also fed up with how TV is getting taken over by everything having to be so young all the time (Merlin anyone?
). But... With Moffat behind him, and since everyone was so sure as soon as they saw him that he was perfect, then I am looking forward to discover what he has to offer. I think he'll actually be quite good. With a good script and good story and writing I hope the series will be pulled into order and be even better than the last couple of seasons. I enjoyed the last couple of seasons, but something about them seemed missing. I think they tried to appeal to popular culture a bit too much. Hopefully now it may become at least a tad more quirky.

I'm sure that they could bend a rule around it. Doctor Who is probably going to staying on our screens for a very long time. The only problem is that each Doctor cast doesn't stay on for very long now, do they?
Well, The Master had all his regenerations, then was granted more so he could fight in the Time War. Then ofcourse, he did his whole body snatcher thing, so there's always a way around it.
I do have a feeling that when it does eventually finish, The Doctor will die in a way that makes you think "is he really dead?" so there's always a chance of bringing it back again, but if it's never brought back, he's dead.

Well nothing personal. It's just that when I put that on to watch as soon as I saw that Merlin was younger than Arthur I said "stuff that". So in fairness I only saw the first episode. Theres been an uproar about Doctor Who in that people are saying he is too young, and crying out at modern televisions obsession with casting young people for everything and destroying our culture. I was using Merlin as an example of modern TV shows that seem to cast younger roles. The more recent Demons is another example.
I don't know why they do it though, yeah it may appeal to some younger people more, but it puts off the older generations or people who want to see better, more characterised acting.
Back to Doctor Who though, I think with Moffat behind him this guy could do well. He is young, yeah, but he seems quirky enough for the part, and with Doctor Who if they have a good writer and script (which they most likely will have under Moffat) then it could turn out to be quite good. But I can't say that until I see anything he has done.

They've only really done that once, 'back in the day', when they wiped Jamie and Zoe and made the #2 regen to #3. All the other old doctors kept the old one's companions for awhile after their regen. The 8th and 9th doctor blank slates are too new, methinks.
The send-off they gave her was strong, but begging to be revisited when the patchwork the Doctor did wears off and she goes batguano.

I remember reading an article on Digital Spy two months ago that Freema Agyeman was going to return as Martha at some point, Billie Piper stated in interviews she would never rule out a return to Doctor Who and there's always that scene at the end of the third series, where a woman takes the Master's ring.
Does anyone see where this is going?

Fuck sake I hope it isn't true. I'm sick to the sight of Rose Tyler, Martha and Donna (well basically any unnecessary 'returns'). The return of The Master wouldn't be a bad idea but I'd prefer a new enemy or another old fav that hasn't made an appearance since the re-launch (check it, there's alot more than Daleks, Cybermen and The Master). We know Donna's going to return in a new series at some point anyway and Martha can have the odd appeance...but Rose should be laid to rest.
I actually don't mind, although I'm sick of Martha and her voice the more I see and hear her. I'm surprised that this could be true because
But the writers always think of good things, like how they brought Rose back to the right universe and Martha with UNIT. And with the Master, there's still the ring to consider at the end of "Last of the Time Lords".
