Well I've wanted photoshop for quite a while now, so I went to Bestbuy and bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, which was all they had. This is the correct version I need to create avatars and signatures, right? I don't want to open it until I'm sure so that I can return it if needed.

And hopefully I created this thread in the right place >_>

Wow so your one of the few people here who paid for Photoshop! My hat goes off too you ma'am. :monster:

But I'd suggest you return it and get CS3. Elements is more for editing your photos to make them look nice. CS3 is more for graphic and web design which is what your looking for.

The only problem with CS3 is that it is expensive and by expensive I mean over $1,000, an awful lot to be paying if you only plan to make Sigs and Avatars as a hobby. Hence why very few people here actually buy it.

I thought it costed $600 or around there.
I recommend CS3 too,I have Photishop Elements 6 and it lacks tools, like the pentool which is very useful if you want to create more professional avatars/signatures or if you want to vector.

I use Photoshop 7.0 I got it for free and from all that I have read there are only small differences between it and the other. As mentioned before just download a copy of one for free it saves you money for a hobby. I would place a link for cs3 here, but the site has a policy against that stuff.

Don't listen to them, CS2 and CS3 my arse. Go with CS4. :gmonster:

But I think the CS versions are a lot more efficient are like SaSh pointed out, more for actual designing whereas I think elements is just an advanced version of literally photo editing. And I agree, again, that it is far too expensive mainly because PS is intended for professional designers who can easily pay, hence the expensive price tag.
Download it.

Not that agree with illegal downloading of course.

Ok, thanks guys. I didn't know you could download it for free, else I wouldn't have gone to all that trouble :monster: I'm glad I asked though, because I had a bad feeling I had gotten the wrong thing, since all it talked about on the box was editing photos.

I can't ask for a direct link to download it though, since that's against the rules, but if I just type Photoshop CS3/CS4 download into a search engine like google, will it come up?

Yea, it will. You will also need to find a CDkey for it, but that can be found on you tube. Now this is sad. I could get the best one for free.

I was thinking about downloading CS4 is it really that much better than CS3?

Bittorrents are your friend ;))
Most will come with the CD key in a text document but other wise it's not hard to find one via google.

You lucky people with your CS3 (and CS4?! :gasp: )

I'm using CS2, and not that I have an issue with it, but my Vista doesn't like CS3 apparently -__-

I have Vista too :gasp: If you're having problems with it, then I most likely will as well..

But I guess I'll at least download it and see what happens. I won't get a virus or anything by doing this though, right?

CS, CS2, and CS3 are all practically the same shit... Just small differences.

If you download the 30 day trial version from Adobe, then you won't. But if you download a keygenerator, which is used to generate the permanent use serial number, then you could end up getting a virus.

That's what an awesome anti virus product is for. ;))

Anyway, I don't condone stealing photoshop, but whatever. I use photoshop a lot for school so I had to buy it. Mine was discounted of course.

Is there any reason why Photoshop CS is more superior than Photoshop elements for making banners and signatures and the like? I mean I use Photoshop Elements 5 for all my banner creating needs and it does me justice :D

Well, I now have photoshop CS2 guys! I took the other version back to the store and got a full refund ^_^

Can someone please send me a link to a few tutorials though? I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing >_>

Awesome! Welcome to the GFX world. xD My advice is to join a clan soon so that you get a more thorough tutorial from our members.

But here's a few things to look at:

http://www.sigtutorials.com/

http://www.absolutecross.com/tutorials/photoshop/

I must say though, just experiment and you'll eventually get the hang of things. Give it a few weeks and you'll probably get all the basics down. ;)

Oh, and also check out this site for renders (already cut-out images). It's very nice to have.

www.planetrenders.net

Takes a minute to sign up, and you can get tons of resources from there.

Thanks Mitsuki! ^^ Those tutorials are definately going to help me out a lot.

I'd like to get a bit more experience though before I join a clan. I haven't had a lot of time to experiment with photoshop, since school just started back up, so I think I'm going to hold off until I've at least got the hang of the basics.

1,000th post! :D
