has anyone else noticed that penance is shaped EXACTLY like the yevon symbol(like the one you needed to complete in djose temple) he has that halo those arms and the body...does anyone else wonder what this could mean?

It means that Penance is a creature of Yevon?

Well, theres a theory that Penance is a final aeon that was never used, so that could be it.

Haha! Why i have never noticed this i don't know..it is pretty strange. I would go with AG on this though about it being a Final Aeon that was never used, because you also have to defeat all the Aeons (Dark Aeons) before facing Penance..

I haven't gotten to Penance yet because I can't fight the dark aeons... I have the wrong version and it pisses me off.....

I thought Penance and Yojimbo both looked like the Yevon symbol, but Penance would obviously make more sense to be a visual representation of Yevon considering he only appears when you beat the Dark Aeons.

But, the visual representation of Yveon - Yu Yevon - is that little spider-like thing you fight inside sin...so it can't be penance...I believe it is a final aeon that was never used, much like the dark aeons summoners never completed their journeys so their aeons remain intact.

But whos final aeon is it? most summoners go straight for sin upon gaining the final aeon.

The Final Aeon essentially dies -thus never appearing again- upon the defeat of its Fayth. Consider this, it's impossible for Penance to be a Final Aeon.

I've said it before enough times, but I'll say it again. It's the Necron of X. Or it's simply a magical machina.

perhaps it is a final aeon of a foolish summoner who summoned it before the fight with sin the see what would happen

Considering how duty-bound summoners tend to be up to that stage that scenario is unlikely to happen. And if it did, wouldn't yu yevon have absorbed it? considering it is much harder to beat than sin is.

Or maby it is a machina built by the al-bhed to face yu-yevon thats why it might look the same because it is a replica, and the reason why you need to beat all the dark aeons to face him is beacause since it is a machina it thinks you are yu-yevon beacause you are so powefull

.....i just thought of that on the spot.

Possible.. Though i doubt it.
I rather stick to the final aeon theory..

Um....kay?

If it were a machina, it wouldn't really think now would it? And why would it be linked to the dark aeons? The Al Bhed didn't have anything to do with summoners or aeons, let alone Yu Yevon. Plus, why would they make a machina to contest Yu Yevon himself in the first place? If anything they'd make one to confront Sin, but seeing as how the best they could make were all the weapons they assaulted Sin with at Mushroom Rock, it's highly unlikely they could construct anything like Penance.

In my opinion, it's just like most other secret bosses: it's just there. It has very little, if anything, to do with the story and is just randomly there as a challenge.
