For some reason I was thinking about the different races of Ivalice, and I realised that the playable characters are all humes except Fran. And there are no playable moogles or bangaa. I wonder why...? I wonder what it would be like if you could have Moogles or Bangaa join your team. I bet they'd be quite useful. Any thoughts/opinions?

Hmm, well I know moogles have been in all the series but have never been in any permanent party, whatsoever. (Edit: Or so I thought. Scrap that.) I do remember that in FFVI, you actually got to battle enemies using a bunch of moogles and they were really weak. =/ Granted, it would be a nice addition to the team since they are so cute, and it would definitely liven up the character interactions, in my opinion.

I'm not sure about Baangas though. Never been really a fan of them, even in Tactics. But since they appeared a lot in this game, it would make sense to have a Baanga in the party too.

I think the reason they picked a Viera instead is because they're the closest thing to human when it came to appearance. Viera are also smart and knowledgeable creatures, so it was the perfect set-up. Or perhaps they just didn't wanna add a moogle or a baanga to the party, period. It could be anything.

But yes, it would definitely have been more interesting if they added those two races as well. I'm not sure how'd they do in battles though. Baanga would probably be a lot stronger than a moogle, but Fran would still be up there. ^_^

Well I noticed this too and I would like there was a playable bangaa. And during some hunts some seeq ( pigmen) and bangaa join your team as a quest for your hunt.

Anyway 1/6 different race is no new in FF-games. FFX had only one character who was not human in team, FFVIII had all humans, VII 2/9 were something else than human although other one was controlled by human from far away. VI 2/14 and I-V I don´t even bother to tell. IX was the only FF were characters werent such a big racists bastards and they accept all kinds of freaks into their team.

i would have like ther to be at least one playable Bangaa, moogle, and SeeQ not just playable humes and Viera and they would all hae diferent stats like Moogles would have good magik and mag res, and SeQ would have good defence

Hmm, well I know moogles have been in all the series but have never been in any permanent party, whatsoever.

Actually, Moogles first appeared in FFIV. :wacky:

I do agree that a Baanga would have been a welcome addition to the party.

Actually, Mog was a playable, permanent, character in FFVI, and he pwned ^_^

I think they kept it to 5 humes and a Viera for story-based purposes, they would have to invent another plot twist to get a bangaa to join, and another for a moogle to join, although a Moogle could have been working on Balthiers ship, or some lame excuse like that xD

Bangaas are shown as selfish creatures in XII, theres a few boss fights where you even have to fight a group of Bangaas - in the jail, and in the mines.

As for Moogles, they'd be too small to portray as fighting party members in this game, although, had they had pre-chosen jobs, i can easily see a moogle being a mage.

Yeah but moogles don't look like they could take a hit really, though a mage class is a possibility if we go back to ff6 Mog and the rest of the moogles they were great in melee combat. They would definately been a better hyper character than Penelo ever was. :P

Lol, okay, you guys caught me.

So Mog was actually a permanent playable character in VI, and moogles first made their appearance in IV. Gotcha, I'll keep that in mind. ;)

I still think that the moogles wouldn't do as much damage as a Viera or Baanga would though. Moogles are meant to stand there and stay cute. ^_^ They'd still be a great addition to the party and being an actual main character in the story - not just an extra.

I have to correct Mitsuki. Moogles appeared first time in III and II had beaver-creatures who were almost like moogle. IV had no moogles at all. V again had.

It would be a great idea as having a balanced team makes a lot of sense. However, I think Square chose not to go that route due to fan appeal. The non-human characters tend to be the least popular characters, which I think is due to two main reasons: a) human players can more easily relate to human characters, and because b) human, or humanoid characters (such as Viera) help anchor a story that has many fantasy elements.

Also, look at the doujinshi and fanfiction communities - you can easily gauge the state of the fandom with these, and how many doujin and fics do you see which center on Red XIII or Freya? From a marketing point of view, how much more would squealing fans pay for a viera poster as opposed to a bangaa poster? Bangaa, moogles, and nu mou might make a good team, but humes and viera (the races that have the most potential to spawn hot characters, at least from a mainstream POV) are the ones that would most help sell a product.

Sheesh, blame it on Dark Remnant, Pineapple. :P

Hmm, I'll have to agree with eisprinz here. It makes more sense that Square would not take that route due to fan appeal. Like I stated previously, it makes more sense to include Fran in the party than a moogle or baanga because of that reason. The players can relate more to the main characters that way.

Of course, some may not agree.

You are also forgot Montblanc from FFTA, he too is a permanent moogle party member. He can be a pretty powerful black mage in that game imo depending how you raise him.

I was actually thinking about this the other day and wondered why most of the playable characters are humes. I would of dropped Penelo and replaced her as her story is almost non existant.

Seeing as every FF favours Humes, why are people making a deal out of this one especially? Maybe it's because there are more races in that would appeal to people in the game, I don't know. But I don't see a problem with it really. Main reason would have been for storyline purposes - humans are huge contributors to many FF storylines, so thats why the majority of the cast are..well..human.

Character development was so sparse in FF12 that they could have put in a pet rock as a party member and it would have had as much personality.

It wouldn't have worked with more characters anyway, since the point in the story was that they remained undetected by the empire, as 6 is more than enough. Human characters have to dominate the party so people can relate to them, having 3 humes, a bangaa, a moogle and a viera, wouldn't look right and would make the players relate less to the characters...

Character relations, I don't really care much about that.

I like the idea of a bangaa party member. They would be purely tank as a fighter. The battles would look weird with a moogle running around with a giant sword or spear. So I wouldn't really like a moogle as a party member in ffXii.

But the Vieras are the most suited to the game, having their own village and all.

FFXII had more races than most FFs. (Excluding 9 I belive)

I didn't think the all human party was weird though.

I found it weird how all the Leaders featured in the game and all the Judges were Humes.
I want a Moogle Empire...
