Square Enix filed trademarks for “Ever Crisis” and “The First Soldier” on December 17, 2020 in Japan, as well as the Shinra Electric Power Company logo on December 22. All three trademarks were just made public today.

All three trademarks seem to be related to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII series:
  • “Ever Crisis” shares a similar name to the 2004-released mobile game Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII and 2007-released PSP game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
  • “The First Soldier” may be a reference to Sephiroth, the main villain of the Final Fantasy VII series.
  • The Shinra Electric Power Company is an organization in the world of Final Fantasy VII.
The latest game in the Final Fantasy VII series, Final Fantasy VII Remake, launched for PlayStation 4 in April 2020.

It could be anything, Ever-Crisis could even be a completely new FFVII Compilation title - Or considering the recent FFVII Remake, it could be the equivalent of Crisis Core for this new FFVII Remake Project/Saga. I personally can't see them reviving the FFVII Compliation series - I even wonder if they're canon considering FF VII Remake.

However, considering thevents of the Final Encounter and the Remake being a seperate Timeline, I guess the FFVII Compliation could be considered canon for all of that timeline.

Also, a game featuring Zack as the main character is certainly plausible considering his appearance in the FFVII Remakes Ending - I'm sure most new comers had no clue what that was all about :P

A lot of people are getting excited about this! 'Crisis' names are certainly a recurring aspect of the Final Fantasy VII Compilation titles (Before Crisis and Crisis Core). It need not be anything directly related to the Turks or Zack, respectively, to remain a relevant title for a Final Fantasy VII game.

I wonder... May it even be the title of the next installment of the Remake? Notice how the first part never called itself 'Part One'. The game was simply called 'Remake'. And they certainly played with the definition of a 'Remake' in the game, making it potentially a title earned by the game to reflect its story in its own right. The timeline was, in some sense, remade.
Could part two be 'Ever Crisis'? With the name having something to do with the timeline being out of sorts?

I'm not sure how much of that I really want, but that could potentially be an angle.

Or it could be an entirely new game in the universe.

The Compilation remains canon to the original game, except for purists. The Remake, however, appears to be in an alternate/split/offshoot timeline which may well be intersecting with the original timeline in curious ways.
In fact, the Remake brought in a number of Compilation characters from the novels. I thought that was a brilliant touch to see these characters at an earlier, pre-Meteorfall stage. There were other references to the wider Compilation throughout the game.

This was my impression too, before I even read your post. 'Before Crisis' and 'Ever Crisis' share similar names, but if they're going to play with that concept the word 'After' (Ex. 'After Crisis') wouldn't make sense with the timey-wimey stuff, but 'Ever Crisis' would make sense if they were going some kind of route like that.

Honestly with how the Remake ended it could be anything at this point in regards to it. I doubt this is a Crisis Core remake though. Though if it is.. I feel like it's not time yet, personally. I'm not ready for that yet. I don't really know how I feel about either though! Haha

Either way, interesting. I wonder what Square is scheming!

Same. It seems too early for a Crisis Core remake, although there is demand for it. For some people Crisis Core seems like a lifetime ago. To others, it feels like relatively yesterday.

Another thing is Genesis' likeness being based on Gackt. Many people cite this as an issue with the Compilation going forward in that to bring Genesis into the fold in the Remake project or in a Crisis Core remake would require another contract with Gackt so that he could receive royalties. There is speculation that this could be difficult to obtain, or undesirable. I do not know if this is a serious barrier for definite as I believe there has been radio silence from Square Enix about this. If true, and they go ahead anyway without Gackt and decide to reinvent the character Genesis with an altered design, then perhaps a Crisis Core remake could influence the depiction of the character in any flashbacks, etc, in a potential future installment of the FFVII Remake.

I for one hope they don't remake it as I think it's perfect as it is. I think remaking the main games in the series such as VI and VIII (I'm debatable if I want Tactics and IX to be remade), especially VIII so Square has the opportunity to refine the storytelling. VI would look awesome remade, Tactics is good, and seeing the Ivalice there clearer and compare with XII could be exciting and IX because of the diverse characters and wanting to see what Freya, Quina, etc look like in glorious HD CGI.

Crisis Core won't benefit the story with a remake.

I don't necessarily care about a remake or anything, but I would definitely like a port of the game for PC or PS4. I've only seen bits and pieces here and there on YouTube, and it would be fun to be able to play it myself without spending money on a system I'd never use.

Honestly a port for PC would be an awesome idea! Crisis Core was a game I enjoyed a whole whole lot, but pulling out my long abandoned PSP to play it seems so redundant - I mean I'm not even confident that thing even works anymore after spamming Sephiroth's shadow flare too many times in Dissidia 012.

Agreed though, a remake does not feel that necessary - although I haven't finished my play-through of the FFVII Remake yet, from what I can see so far, it aimed to incorporate and repackage its story, making its prequels and sequels that bit more cohesive.

Yeah, there is that scene in Part 1 of the remake showing Zack surviving the battle with ShinRa Infantrymen but Crisis Core stuck with the story of Zack shown in the original. It had me very confused.

There is a couple questions about FFVII in general but that be for a different forum

I've edited in spoiler tags to this because it relates to a critical scene and some people haven't played FFVII Remake Part 1 yet as it is still relatively new.

However, I agree. The Compilation and its characters have certainly been incorporated into the Remake project in a huge way. It'll be interesting to see where they are heading.

Whatever the projects mentioned in the OP end up being, these recent project name drops indicate that Compilation concepts are not being forgotten.
