Look at the title. Ponder at it. Yes, it's straight to the point. FFXIV was objectively a flop upon release and excessive MANPOWER was thrown in to A Realm Reborn, which as nice as it looks, I can't help but feel it's yet another WoW child and destined to be nothing more than a small niche title. So you can stop blaming the FFXIII sequels for delaying your precious Versus now, because this was exactly the one thing you shouldn't blame Kitase and Toriyama for (they simply drafted in other people from outside the company to help, no doubt). And admit that I was right all along.
If you're still crying over your cereal as to potentially why we have not yet heard a peep from things like FFX HD, look no further. I am afraid that the main priority at the moment like I've constantly said, is in fact FFXIV 2.0, not the Lightning sequels.

"The unsuccessful launch of FFXIV caused a negative chain of events in other areas across the businesses. One notable example is the significant delay in the development of new HD games titles in Japan. As a result, our major releases of HD game titles use IPs previously developed by Eidos Interactive, and are sold mainly in Europe and North America," said Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada.
