Final Fantasy VII Remake

Perhaps. Though I think the new experience attributed to the spin offs is because they are new stories with new gameplay mechanics etc. If VII was to be remade it would either be exactly the same game with updated graphics or they would change a lot of the features and create a whole new schism. Kind of a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario.

Exactly you cant please anyone with the FF7 remake. And considering SE they will try to come with a lot of changes that the "original" fans will dislike (Like FF3 case)

im referring to visuals alone.

You mean everyone. People might be pleases by it. The ff3 case is scarse. It doesnt take an ff7 fan to not want an ff7 remake. Just a Coff7 hater

Ah, fair enough. Do you really think updated visuals would add much though? I find the old polygon arms quaint...

My personal opinion on this remake is pretty neutral right now. I think I'd prefer to get a brand new game that surpasses all the other FF's so far in terms of story, character development, gameplay and possibly visuals...

Tall order ;)

New graphics plus voice acting. We will be able to see their facial expressions. Certain scenes will be more epic personally it shouldve been done in the ps2 era.

The towns and other areas wont be 2d background.

Good point. I guess it all comes down to personal opinion. I liked the old school pre-rendered backgrounds. They used them in the old Resident Evil games which I think still surpass all the new ones they bring out which have contemporary visuals.

i highly doubt that is what really makes you think why the old resident evil games are better than the new ones.

It's probably a contributing factor that made up the games charm. Though I admit nostalgia and childhood experience are probably swaying me towards a biased perspective. I'm not suggesting that games should go back to the pre-rendered backdrop days, but I think that this feature definitely added a certain 'feel' to those particular games and updating these games with new graphics would possibly detract this nostalgic feeling. Though it could also provide the player with a sense of exploring these familiar places all over again.

sigh...you just prove my point...but you only say it differently.

look. i want a remake, for the same reasons you Dont. i dont want to play a remake for the "nostalgia" i can play the original version for that.

I really do hope they remake FF7. I would prefer if they invested the time and energy into making it on a next gen console, so that we could appreciate it even more. I also think the game should be reworked to include crisis core and advent children and maybe a new final bout with sephiroth after AC. I love games that are reallllly long.

That would be awesome, Imagine Cloud exploring the world of FFVII IN HD and the minigames wold be more like a full games
The snowbording for example, cold be a whole new game, like the motocircle or the chocobo racing and all the goldsaucer
we would have varios games in one , and the amazing history and if they really wanted to make the best game ever
they would make all in one. ( Before crises, crisis core, FFVII, FFVII aC, Dirge of cerberus and a sequel to finish the serie)
but i think its impossible, because the would make much more money if they remake them isolated

I dont know if this is aready posted but

[h=1]Square Enix CEO: No Final Fantasy VII Remake Until Original Has Been Surpassed[/h] final-fantasy-vii-sadness.jpg
Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada said his company wouldn't be making a Final Fantasy VII remake until it produces a Final Fantasy game that tops the original.
The condition for a FFVII remake came during a Q & A session with Square Enix shareholders.
If the company did decide to release a FFVII remake at this point in time, Mr. Wada is alleged to have said something along the lines of, 'the franchise would be done with'.
The revelation from Mr. Wada is a tacit admission that current iterations of the Final Fantasy series haven't been up to snuff, at least in the eyes of Squenix brass. Not surprisingly, critics here in the west would agree.
The last two main series entries, Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, earned an 83 and 79, respectively, in the critical aggregate.
While those aren't terrible scores, they're well below the marks earned by the series' recent, preceding efforts, namely Final Fantasy XII and X, each of which landed in the low 90's.
Bringing things full-circle, Final Fantasy VII earned a 92 among critics when it hit the market back in 1997.

The only appeal in a remake that I could think of is just better graphics. Sure, it'd be great seeing gameplay graphics on par with PS3 and Xbox 360, but what else would there be to add? Chances are they would have to crop out loads of stuff from the game (Which I can imagine would be much of the Gold Saucer mini-games, for one thing.) because there will be a demand for voice actors, a free-roaming overworld map, enhanced graphics and sound...

There's just way too much in FFVII for it to be completely remade, and no one is gonna be happy if they come up with a remake but having to cut out a lot of what made the game fun. I highly doubt a PS3 or Xbox 360 could handle all that, plus the enhancements you would expect from such a remake. FFXIII came in three discs, and look how linear that game was. Not to mention a lack of side-quests and mini-games.

If we had an FFVII remake, I would want to be able to breed and race chocobos, fly across the skies in the Highwind, play all the games in Gold Saucer, explore a massive world to find hidden weapons, items and materia and complete all the side-quests there are in the original.

I just think there is too much to be considered to realistically produce a remake.

Compared to xiii-2 i doubt thats an issue

Sounds great but they'd never be able to make a game that detailed with what technology they have now. It could be a long time before they'd have the technology for that, nevermind combining 6 games into one, the platforms and the technology at the moment just could never do something like this. I don't doubt that there will be a day when it's posible though, but as of now even a FFVII remake to the extent of having everything so detailed would just not be possible.

Yeah i agree and with the notice that they would make a remake after making a game that surpass VII
its a bit disapointing. I dont think in the next 10 years they will can do it

Hm, I haven't played XIII-2. I was too disappointed with XIII, so. But then, XIII-2 is going for about £7 or so now, so I may get it. Is XIII-2 really that big a game, though? I heard it wasn't much of an improvement over XIII.

Although, a more realistic alternative for Square releasing a complete Final Fantasy VII remake, would be to have DLC for a lot of the side-quests and mini-games. Like a Snowboarding DLC, or one for the Motorbike game, or the Battle Arena, or Moghouse, or Chocobo Racing and Chocobo Breeding. It would definitely be a way for Square to make millions from this if they were to go through with it.

It had room for minigames. Plus it ckukd be the first multi disc on the ps3 if its too much

I actually enjoyed XIII, so I can't say much for that ... but XIII-2, in some ways, was an improvement over XIII. If you know anything about the sequel (don't want to give any spoilers), you know that it's not nearly as "linear" as XIII. Not only do you have more freedom to travel from place to place, but you also have the ability to alter the course of your own path. You should give it a try!

Personally i think that a remake is possible as it is now.

Granted that it would take quite awhile for it to come about, and it would be on a fair few discs, it's possible, mini games and side quests included.

As for the ratings: correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't VII released when (at the time) Squaresoft was doing badly? I thought they were close to going bankrupt and were saved because of the success of VII? I could totally wrong on this one but meh *shrugs*

Plus there were a few things that they weren't able to do with VII (i.e. the locked chest in Kalm that can't be opened) because of an issue of time. they could potentially finish the things they started.

As for combining all the games into one: i really don't think that's all that possible simply because there'd be at least one or two disks for each of the other installments. and AC wasn't even a game, it was a movie, that'd take a MAJOR overhaul to turn into a game that could go either really well or fail horribly. i'd love to see a sequel to DOC that actually ties everything in the series up but i doubt that will happen because these days it's always best to leave your options open (i.e. star wars, they left that open so as to make more money if necessary and we see that being built upon but i digress)

Overall i'd love to see all of them reworked (and wouldn't mind seeing DOC as more than just a linear FPS) it'd be great and if they released each one in turn they'd make enough money for the grandchildren of all in the company to be reasonably set for life (or at least college). because i'd be willing to bet that at least a good 80% of all RPG gamers would buy it and play it just to be able to add to various conversations about it or to complain about how horribly they did with _____ part or XXXXXX installment. i'd go as far to say that anybody who liked a final fantasy game even if they haven't played VII would give it a try. but then again i'm usually overly optimistic.
