So basically what the Republicans ought to be if they want to look like a serious political party to the rest of the world. But it's alright, they'll happily continue to be hijacked by Teabaggers and people like Mourdock, Todd Akin, Fox News, etc. I'd rather the Libertarians replace the GOP then, considering they sound a bit less crazy.

Eh. In theory, yeah. But in practice most of today's Libertarians are Ron Paul sycophants which pushes their social policy back into the 1950s, especially when it comes to women, and their economic policies back to the turn of the 20th century. The Paulbots are .... rabid.

:facepaw:

Still better than being a self-absorbed-only-care-about-myself-liberal-Obamabot. And at least our guy never murdered a 16 year old U.S. citizen.

But thank you for that post, it provided a good laugh. :ari:

i'm pretty sure "self absorbed liberal" is an oxymoron of sorts

It's really not.

Liberal train of thought is: I deserve that so give it to me.

Outside of the PELL grant I received to help me pay for college (and I still have $15k worth of loans to pay back), I have never received government benefits of any kind. Neither has my wife, who actually is a liberal.

The liberal train of thought is actually more like "bad things sometimes happen to people and no one should fall so far through the cracks that they are unable to pick themselves back up."

That's silly talk, Jesse. We all know that taxes are essentially theft, no matter how little they are. The rich should have the right to cling on to every single dollar they have because they earned it (off the backs of everyone else). The poor can sod off and die or go into those lovely Dickensian workhouses. We all know that those are below the threshold and struggle to get by on their own are clearly lazy, feckless freeloaders who don't want to work at all. :jimberry:

Did you mean who don't want to work at all, Mel?

Also, student debt. :hmph: I hope I get this work study position.

Why am I still (poorly) masquerading as Mel? -__-

IN GENERAL... There are rich people who havent earned a dime of what they own...

But why does that mean someone else has to help you get back what you lost? Why should I work my ass off for what little I have, just to hand some of it over to someone else, merely because they say that they "deserve" it? What gives people the "right" to deserve other people paying for their abortions, war, and especially college tuition or anything else they deem to be their "right?" And for that matter, what about drug addicts? It's not their fault that they got where they are. People make mistakes and they fall into holes. You should help them by giving them your money, home, and car.

The fact of the matter is this, you aren't entitled to anything but equality. The equal chance to prosperity (not having someone give it to you). If someone hands you something of theirs just because you say to, that's putting you on a different platform then anyone else, meaning others aren't equal to you... which, is wrong.

i deserve rights so give them to me.

"selfish"
College isn't a right, first of all. It's a privilege.

Secondly, rights are things like, being paid equally for your hard work, paying the same taxes (no less, no more), having the same right to a vote, not being oppressed because of your color, sex, or religion, or sexual orientation, and being able to choose and decide for yourself. THOSE are rights. Forcing someone else to pay for something of yours will never be a right, that's a downright robbery.

Tell me, though. Why should my grandparents have to pay for your college?

Hahahaha, oh man, Cali. You're serious, aren't you? :lew:

Have you looked at their finances, like...at all? Most of the rich have the majority of their money in stock, so they are (more so than normal)responsible for the net profit of their company. To increase the net profit, they drop the cost of their work force as you can't drop the cost of supplies. Cutting out the middle class, and trying to damnedest to turn the lower class into modern slaves is not "equal" in any way shape or form. This is not being paid equally for your hard work. (I'll just add in that not everyone in the lower class is there by choice or a "lack of will to be there" ;) )

You're right, we should drop all grants, reduce the over all learning in the US and while we're at it, drop Medicare and Medicaid. In addition, we'll also encourage companies to drop their retirement plans. Why should we have to pay for someone else.

capitalism raised you well is all i can say really

but do everyone a favor and don't call yourself pro life if you're not concerned about the millions [of children] dying in poverty because you don't want to pay taxes

yes i'm allowed to call you out on an unrelated topic because you slipped in a nice "MY TAXES ARE PAYING FOR ABORTIONS" (which they aren't)

and i think you'd be more concerned about basically only millionaires being able to come out of college without crippling debt if you loved your country so much. if i was able to be as patriotic as i was two days ago i'd be infuriated we rank so low in terms of education
