Being as eccentric as he is makes him what he is in terms of character development. I think it makes him more realistic, if I may be so simple in saying so. His role in the latter parts of the game proves to give more of an impact because of his personality too, I believe.

That said, I found his constant up-beat attitude to be slightly irritating. I'd have preferred him to be less of what he is, but am equally inclined to say I'd rather him not change due to the authenticity of his character as a whole.
 
He was funny!
Like when he grabs Garnet's butt XD Or when he calls Freya horse face lol
But, yeah, i think characters like this are more likable than the angsty type(except for stupid Tidus).
 
i think zidane was awesome as a character squall is too emo and cloud is just too boring and square just makes him gothy in ff7ac but zidane just kicks butt
 
Zidane is like a breath of fresh air when you come to compare him with the likes of Cloud or Squall, maybe he was a bit too eccentric in some parts of the game but that's what made him so memorable
 
zidane edges out cloud slightly as my favorite main character. he's always upbeat and keeps everyone in the party happy and makes sure everythings going the way it should. he's a good leader, saves the world, and gets the girl.
 
I loved Zidane' personality all upbeat and happy, it made the game a refreshing change from angst and unemotional characters. Although that does make it slightly childish, I liked how he progressed as a character throughout the game from upbeat to serious. When things about his past start to get revealed to him.
 
I was actually shocked that
zidane had that downfall in the pandemonium maze on terra
because he's normally so upbeat. But it showed that he really does have what it takes to pull through anything. I think he's the best leading roll in any FF. ^__^
 
Zidane in my opinion is one of the best characters in the series.
His design is actually quite perfect as opposed to the 'emo' Cloud and Squall.
It made quite a nice change, and totally affected the mood of the game --- I mean, VII and VIII were kinda dark, while IX was more on the upbeat side.
 
He reminded me a lot of Locke from FFVI.
Zidane isn't really a thief, in case no one noticed...he's in league with Baku and Regent Cid...the three of them all work together. Cid hired Baku as a friend, and Baku allowed Zidane to take part in Garnet's kidnapping because he was honest and trustworthy. Think about it. Cid wouldn't hire a bunch of thieves to take on such a job.
I think plenty of the guys in Tantalus were crooked, but Zidane and Blank seemed like the most honest, reliable and sufficient members.
 
Zidanne was a nice breath of fresh air. SE was obsessed with there dark, mysterious type of main characters and to finally see a more down-to-earth main character was wierd at first; but was a really nice change. He was flirty, always infuriating Steiner and was always pretty much cheerfull. His look was definatly what I didn't expect from the main character but I adjusted and you get used to it. Zidanne was a great character to follow throughout the story and his upbeat nature just made the game a joy to follow.
 
i like his character it suits him all ways depressing but i wish he was a lil bit like squall and cloud cause there the best characters
