Xseed have shared the first batch of English screenshots for Ys: Memories of Celceta, the upcoming PlayStation Vita RPG by Nihon Falcom, slated for release this holiday.

Xseed have shared the first batch of English screenshots for Ys: Memories of Celceta, the upcoming PlayStation Vita RPG by Nihon Falcom, slated for release this holiday.

A reimagining of Ys IV, Memories of Celceta follows series protagonist Adol Christin, as he awakens on the outskirts of the forest of Celceta, with no memory of how he got there, and begins a journey to figure his identity out.

Alongside the screenshots, Xseed have also provided a handy list of the major characters in Ys: Memory of Celceta. You can read up on them below.

Adol Christin

The Ys series’ stalwart protagonist, Adol Christin is perhaps the most famous adventurer ever to have lived. Adol is a young man brimming with curiosity who constantly seeks the thrill of discovery and the wonders of new lands. This time around, however, the challenge is quite different – Adol is seeking to solve the mysteries of his own past.

Duren

Duren is an information dealer whom Adol encounters at a bar in Casnan. He claims to have met Adol before – though with no memory, Adol remains skeptical. An extremely kind-hearted man (though he’d never admit it), Duren can’t bring himself to walk away from someone in need, making him a perfect travel companion.
​

Karna

Karna is a cheerful, honest young girl who lives in the treetop village of Comodo. An extremely skilled huntress, she puts most of the other hunters in the village to shame with her accuracy and cunning talent. Her weapon of choice is the throwing knife, though she has an unfortunate habit of throwing first and asking questions later…
​

Ozma

A resident of the village of Selray, and the sole remaining member of the tribe which cares for the sacred beasts known as Spardas. Though young, Ozma acts as the village’s leader and has managed to uphold its peaceful ways for as long as he’s been in charge. Reliable, level-headed and dedicated, he is loved and respected by all of the village’s residents. While extremely stubborn and inflexible when it comes to the laws of his tribe, he is also extremely loyal to the people in his charge.

Calilica

Calilica is an energetic, curious young girl who is mature beyond her years in many regards. She harbors something of a complex about her age and youthful appearance, and is constantly seeking to be recognized as an adult by those around her. She looks up to Leeza as an older sister, and has been with her since they were both children. As such, she will hold back at nothing if she can be of assistance to her.

Xseed Games released today a new gameplay trailer of Ys: Memories of Celceta, that will finally hit our PS Vita tomorrow.The trailer focuses on the beautiful and mysterious halberd-armed warrior Frieda and on some of her combat skills, giving us another glimpse on the title’s battle gameplay.You can enjoy it below. Ys: Memories of Celceta “Calilica” Gameplay Trailer

Keen on keeping the gameplay trailer rolling, XSeed have presented the cheerful Calilica for the Ys: Memories of Celceta – “Trailer-A-Day” promotion.

“An up close and personal look at Calilica, a young spiritual guardian from a mysterious town and arguably the strongest character in the game, surpassing even Duren with some of her high-end skills.”

Judging by the trailer it seems that the seemingly-sweet Calilica packs a heavy punch with her arsenal of overly-large weapons. She can be seen using area-of-effect abilities as well as wielding what appears to be a mace to cause major damage.

Ys: Memories of Celceta will be available in North America on November 26th, 2013 exclusively on PlayStation Vita.

Sooooo...nobody else playing this? Really? I've been playing it in my spare time, and I've been quite enjoying it...reminds me a bit of Phantasy Star on the PSP, only considerably easier to control, with noticeably better music, and with more seamless gameplay. Combat is a frantic, button-mashing mess, but it's strangely fun...which is good, because the story is trite and dull as hell. It's nice to have a game to actually play on my Vita after two and a half sodding years of PS1 classics and PSP download titles, though.

I always did love a bit of Ys, even though I've only ever played Ys 1 and...one of those PS2 games. I'll try and remember to grab this at some point (once the backlog goes down), but for something I find this series a bit forgettable, regardless of how I enjoy it. If I'm asked what my favourite RPG series is, Ys will never cross my mind even for a split second.
