I loved ff10-2 as it was, but I have to say I would love it even more if it had been Yuna, Lulu and Rikku adventuring together. It would've made mroe sense, taken out the trouble of adding a new character, and made the story even better in my opinion. Not to mention, Paine is really just an inferior copy of Lulu, isn't she.

So, tell me, YRP, or YRL? Which would you prefer?

YRP is more youthful. Lulu was always more of a mother figure for Yuna, while Paine is a big sister of sorts. They might've thought they needed another stoic character, or they really wanted that whole Crimson Squad [?] storyline to play out and thought that too much history would be bad for Lulu.

I like Paine more than Lulu anyway. She does seem like a bit of a copy, though.

I'm definately a YRP fan, i mean seriously, if Lu was travelling the world wit rikku and Yunie then she would never have gotten pregnant and had a baby, so it would totally SUCK.

Plus can you guys imagine Lulu in a theif's outfit, at her age, I'm sorry, but an old woman in a small outfit just ISN'T appealing to me.

Nar, Im a Paine fangirl. In a way she was kinda like Lulu and Auron combined, so there was still an element on Lulu present in YRP.

As much as i dislike this game im gonna say YRP.

Paine was an awesome character. But i agree with the above post, she does seem like a bit of a copy of Lulu, Just a bit thinner.

I agree with the mother figure thing. Like Lulu said to Yuna herself- "I'm not there so you can spread your wings?" (paraphrased) which shows that Lulu would have been a bit of a burden on Yuna, whereas Paine's a good influence on her- encouraging her to go that bit further when she needs to, but also slowing her down when she needs it. I'm not saying that Lulu wouldn't have done that, more like Lulu wouldn't have encouraged Yuna's excitable, slightly rash side

I can't even imagine Lulu in one of those outfits. You know what I'm getting at. Could you really see Lulu as a gunner? o_O I mean, sure, they could make it work, but it would completely change Lu. I guess they decided to do this with Yuna, but not her.
I think the pace and vibe of this game relies on Yuna, Rikku & Paine jumping throughout Spira, and since Lulu couldn't swim in FFX, I imagine it would be difficult for her to be doing those moves with her elaborate dress.
It would have felt kind of strange for me to see Lulu in this game. Lulu definitely was the more mature, motherly type person, and that's shown by her having a baby with Wakka. Not being a sphere hunter, really. I think that it was a good move to make a new character, and incorporate her into the story of X-2.

See, if they had done the game with Lulu instead of Paine, I don't think that they'd have given her as skimpy outfits as the others wear- that's just not her style

And OLD??? Lulu's not "old" she's just older than Yuna...

If you're referring to me, I didn't say she was old. I said she was mature. She acts like a motherly figure to Yuna, in both games. Numerous times in X she consoles Yuna and says things that make her seem like she knows what she's talking about. As for the outfit, if they did this game over with Lulu as one of them I'm pretty sure they would give her a tiny outfit. There's ways around it, but it would look kind of strange next to Yuna and Rikku.
It just seems to me like they put in a new character that is similar to Lulu to avoid putting Lulu in that situation. She is better suited as a mother, I think.

Sorry, the old part was aimed at Strike Freedom, who said that Lulu couldn't wear a skimpy outfit because "old women in small clothes" isn't appealing to him

Lulu is married and pregnant by the time X-2 hits. She's also around 24-25 years old at that point, I believe. Yuna's only 19. It really wouldn't have made any sense at all with Lulu venturing off with Yuna and Rikku. Also, I hardly see the similarities between Paine and Lulu. Lulu was much more kind-hearted, cared and loved. Sometimes she came across as grouchy, but Lulu was hardly stoic.

She was a one of a kind. She had a kind heart but was also stern about things. Paine was just straight up "I don't give a shit" quiet and wouldn't speak her feelings and tended to hide them all. You never heard her laughing or teasing Yuna the way Lulu would. Lulu is also 5 years older than Yuna as well. She's a married woman, happily settled down and expecting her first child. It just wouldn't have worked out. Plus personally I can't see Lulu running around sphere hunting. It doesn't suit her personality.

I'll second that, as Lulu is most certainly not old. Older than a teenager yes, but an, how did he put it, old lady she isn't.

I can understand the whole mother figure thing, but I also think that one of the largest complaints about FF10-2 in general is that it was not mature enough. Lulu, mother figure that she is, would've added some maturity to the story, and maybe everybody would like this game more.

I also get that Lu was having a kid, but personally I could've done without that side story. I would rather have had Lu in my group than have her pregnant. Of course, it's obviously not my decison.

Lu's only five years older than Yuna. That's not a large enough age cap to make me wonder about her. Plenty of people have adventures with people five years older than them.

However, I do find it hard to imagine Lulu in a theif outfit.

I disagree with you. At this point in the story Lulu is 24 years old going on 25. As a woman near that age, I would rather have been settled down with my husband and ready to have a child, not be running off with three teenagers sphere hunting and searching for Tidus. As I said in my post above, something like that is out of character for Lulu. I personally can't see her dancing around calling herself a Gullwing and slapping high fives with Yuna and Rikku. Lulu is a more conservative woman and very mature for her age.

Oh, but I didn't exactly think of YRL as I would've thought of YRP. With Lulu there, they wouldn't have been dancing around, they would have been acting like they did in FF-10. I think that people who are critics of FF10-2 would have enjoyed that better.

Of course, Lulu isn't likely to listen to my desires, so it looks as though I'll have to settle for YRP, even if I don't want to. I would pay money to see Lulu jumping around and yelling gullwings. Sigh, but it's a lost cause.

Whereas I am 24, same age as Lulu, and I've not had a kid, got married etc. I'd be jumping around in the midst of the Gullwing excitement.

However, I'm nothing like Lulu, so I don't actually think age has anything to do with it, I think that it's more about Lulu's character and personality than her age

I wasn't talking about you or anybody else that is around her age or older. I was comparing her to myself personally and also referring to her personality in general. Not just her age. Some people are just more conservative than others and Lulu is one of them.

I wasn't accusing you of anything...I was just saying that we are similar ages, you would prefer to go a similar route to Lulu, and I would go a similar route to Yuna. However, I was saying that I think that Lulu wasn't the third fighter in the game because of her personality, not her age. Not very well, I grant you, but that's what I was saying.

LOL well that's good. It's just kinda the way you came across. It kinda seemed like "Well I'M 24 so does that mean because I'm Lulu's age I have to be that way too?" But ah, no worries or hard feelings. :lew: It's all good. Maybe her age factor has something to do with it, maybe not. I was just saying well we're around the same age but her personality is the main factor here. Like I said, just comparing her to me and my age, not anybody else's really.

Ditto...and sorry about that

Anyway...to be honest when I first played the game it wouldn't have mattered either way to me whether it was Lulu or Paine as the third fighter, because I played X-2 first. Now that I've played X though, I know that Lulu would have jarred quite strangely with the other two, and Yuna wouldn't have gone off on one so often, like she did when she
said that she wanted to make the Awesome sphere her own
- I think Lulu would have put a stop to her being so hasty and, well, greedy I suppose...

To be honest, I couldn't see Lulu running around and yelling either, but I do think that that would have been a good thing for FF10-2. It would have added another more rational level to it. I think that the masses would have enjoyed it more.

I didn't hate Paine, but I thought of her as a less able sub for Lulu. She tries to be a sort of mother to the girls, too, but she fails. Lulu wouldn't have. And I would've been spared, Lulu/Wakka until the end of the game, unless they had to put it in.

Who says that a pregnant woman can't fight? I find them quite scary myself.
