Playstation Xenogears

Ugh, I absolutely adore this game; it's one of my top 3 favorites, tbh, and I, too, have been searching for another up to par with this one. I think I was drawn mostly by the psychological/religious themes that are explored in the plot. It made it that much better to play knowing there had been a lot of controversy over it. :3

Xenogears I never tried it but Xenosaga was amazing especially episode III THEY BETTER make a IV.

I've become really interested in Xenogears lately. XD But finding an copy is so damn hard...eh, I'll play it some day. I too wish to be able to complain about an underwhelming, rushed second disc.

I'm pretty sure I had to order mine off of Amazon. That or there was a little game place I knew of in the metro area that has a bunch of old/new games. Amazon is a good place to look, though. :3

Xenogears is the 2nd best game from Square next to FFX. It just whipes the floor with FFVII. The story is so complex and the characters are no walking bags of stereotypes. The gear battles are simply amazing (they must be for a Mecha fan :D) and the gameplay was different, but much more thought out then FF8's for example.
I could still kill Square for using some of XGs budget for the shitty Final Fantasy 8. The 2nd disc is just unworthy of XG.

Anyone played this? I must have done so over five hundred times.

Characters: Rarely, in any game, is such attention devoted to character development. You come to know, love, or hate each respective character and the game makes sure of that. Each one has theri own background story and defined personalities. Not to mention all the relationships feel natural and not forced.

Music: Yasunori Mitsuda composed amazing music for this game. Each one sets the mood for the situation. But some of them are a little too depressing.

Gameplay: Many don't like the gameplay in XG, but I have no problem with it. What I had a problem with was the second disc being narrated. The story is great, but I'm playing a game, not reading a book.

Story: This is the most important aspect of any RPG and I will say, without a shadow of a doubt, that this is not only the best story in a game, but the best fictional story ever written. It's intense, funny at times, heart-warming, and even philosophical. Not to mention, it's one of those games where you notice something new each time you play. Also, it's not your typical story of a group of friends stopping a dictator or Dark Lord from taking over or destroying the world, it's a lot deeper than that. If I go into explaining the plot, I'll be here for six hours. I'll cut it by saying that the story of Xenogears is the crown jewel of fiction.

isnt that the prequel of xenosaga,if it is then i seen it,but not much, but xenosaga has amazing storyline the characters are so developed and intresting.

No, Xenosaga is barely related to Xenogears. It was originally intended to be a prequel to Xenogears, but copyright issues prevented that. Those games are their own series.

isnt the main character shion uzuki? i heard that xenogeras tells the story about shion if im not mistaken,or how about ziggy,i think theres also more storyline about him.

Nope, the main character is Fei Fong Wong. There is an Uzuki there, but he's not related to Shion. Citan Uziki plays the role of the wise old man, even though he's 29.

ok then its my mistake but i could have swear that the prequel to xenosaga was called xenogears,as of our posts, they look related.xenoears was for cell phones only, not console games, idk what xenogears your talking about.

See my signature, do I need to say more? By far my favorite all time RPG. The adult theme and the theological breakdown.

Fei Wong: Excellent protagonist. He has a dual personality in which when pushed to the extreme limits, it awakens an alternate personality known as ID. He is shown as a loved person, but when his friend Timothy is killed in front of his eyes it awakens a monsterous power in him that kills everything he ever loved (alice). (this is only in the first few scenes of the game)

Later on he learns who this personality is within him. He also learns how to control it and be one with it later on, but it takes some time, through more pain and loss and friends.

Elly: I'll let you dig her =). She's awesome.. to say the least.. I'm not revealing anything about her, except she also has a dual personality.

Like in the story: The Deep depth of this game is very hard to grasp for certain people. It touches the complexity of a god sacrificing his people for a cause no one understands. It grasps the complexities of friendships, the greed of power, and the corruption of a faith known as Nisan. The twists that come in the story are soooo dang good. The relationship of love between Fei and Elly is so dang deep. Ahhh just go play it if you haven't. Give it a chance... trust me you will get trapped in it like I did the first go round if you play far enough into it.

Combat System: Combos Combos Combos.. Excellent. That's all I gotta say.

It's not actually ID, it's Id, you know the Sigmund Freud theory of the Ego, the Superego, and the Id. There is another thing that I love about the game. It makes reference to psychological theories and to philosophers. Nisan was supposed to be the "good" faith as it preaches love as the most important thing. The Ethos is the corrupt "faith". Another thing I liked about it is their view of God (or the Wave Existence). It's one of the things that shaped my view of God.

Ahh Xenogears...yup I still have it (original double disk case). However, I have yet to finished it due to the game keeps freezing at this certain part on disks 2. I brought the game like years ago (mid-PS2 era) and fell in love with the gameplay and story. i just really enjoyed the amount of moves each characters could get when they are leveled up. I would have to say Citan and Billy are my favorites but overall the entire roster is great :)

Ah yes, one of my favorite games of all time, and one of the greatest RPGs ever produced. The game is just downright brilliant in so many ways. The characters are deep and have great backstories. The plotline is incredibly complex and touches on several different themes and ideas. The gameplay is fun, the bosses are challenging, great music, great atmosphere.

My brother and I always referred to Disc 2 as "Story Time with Fei." But there was a lot of information contained in there, and I think the creators thought they would lose some players if they tried to put that into gameplay. It would have probably made the game be a solid 120 hours of gameplay. Not that I'd be complaining.

I only have disk one :( Ive never gotten far in it because of this and I do need to go online and buy it completely ... if I can afford it XD Damn rare RPG. People go nuts over this game and its not hard to know why. Reading up on it, it sounds so powerful, dramatic and moving for a game.

I played a little of it, but I found it to be too complex. It looked really nice though, especially for the time it was made.

Now, Xenosaga was really fun, and it's supposed to be a sequel or something, isn't it?

We already have a thread on this, so I'll go ahead and merge the two. :)

Sorry, I didn't see the other thead. Checked back two pages. Anyway, I couldn't really get into Xenosaga. I guess it was because I had expected it to really be a prequel to Xenogears.

The part it skips at, is it a boss fight with a big monster with you in the gears? That part skipped for weeks for me : thehell:

And this game was very epic. The character development was great and although the story came together very late and all at once, it was very enthralling none the less. I wish I had a greater grasp on some things like who that woman was. I think she was the origin of woman or something :hmmm:

Shushi, tell me what her involvement was in the story :mokken: I didnt get it that much :gonk:
