XBOX720, PS4 or WiiU?

I'd love to seriously have a slice of the PC pie, but despite people saying that anyone capable of respiring should be able to piece a decent machine together and upgrade it when necessary, I'm not confident enough for that sort of thing. Maybe give it a few years down the line when hopefully I'm not moving around as much and can stay in a more permanent place of residence to have an actual PC or Steambox before I can sample the sweet smell of a very flexible platform. That being said, because I am often away from home, I've barely been touching my consoles since I started university. If I am ever going to get a new console, I'll do so if I am sure that I will be able to get enough of a mileage out of it/them.

It's way too early for me to decide at the moment. The Wii U may sway me with the Wind Waker remake and Monolith's new game, but it will take a bit more than that to convince me that a Wii U is a worthwhile investment - and that it will last.

The PS4 reveal was a bit underwhelming, really. All we know so far are mainly tech demonstrations of things that look pretty but don't really exist as an interactive medium, so in the end it was just admiring polygons. And the games shown bar maybe Watch_Dogs haven't set anyone's world alight. It kind of feels like an extension of the current gen rather than the unveiling of an exciting new generation. I dunno, I'm not feeling this. I'd probably get it one day if the Gaikai streaming service is attractive and for its exclusives - be it indie offerings to quirky Japanese titles.

We haven't seen the Xbox Infinity or whatever the hell it's actually going to called, yet, but if as rumoured, they do go with online-only and clamp down vociferously on used or borrowed game discs, I hope they deserve all the backlash they can get. It kind of depends on what it will have, but I'm not expecting much aside from more Halo, Fable, Gears and Forza. Besides, most of the stuff on it will probably find their way to the PC.

Ohri, bro, sounds like your sister needs to take better care of her laptop. Clean the vents and stop using it on a soft surface, if it's had work done someone could've jumbled the insides to block flow and create a cluster of heat which is killing it. PCs are a platform for gaming, and consoles are custom PCs, so don't be so quick to dismiss them. Consoles draw their tech from PCs, and are usually three or four generations behind. The only reason consoles have the life they do is because the hardware is leveraged.

Don't get me wrong, I love my PS3, but Sony is doing a fabulous job of pissing me off. No purchases carry over? No BC except through that streaming shit, which is a failed tech? That's been done already, and it's laggy/not worth playing. I may get a PS4, but it will be a damn long time before I do. Sony is doing to consoles what EA and Gamespy has done to games.

Another question is, why not include the Steam box? It is my first choice for a "next gen" console because it's creators are the only company making worth while business practices.

tl:dr - Don't discount PCs, they are the prelude to all console technology. Sony is fucking up. I'm too cheap to pay for XBL. Steam box and PC are my choices for the future.

Yeah tht laptop is ancient especially when you watch hd films on it. Putting it on hard surfaces works but not always. I even had the laptop hooked on my tv and disabled the screen so tht only the tv screen shows still it shuts down. It needs to have constant feed from electricity cause the battery is low in an instant :p and yeah it never had work done put perhaps it should lol.

About the steambox at the time when I made this thread tht didnt exist or was announced. Tbh this streaming aspect on all platforms is unsettling imo...

I buy a lot of games from psn for example but I really like tangible games as in discs. Like now PS4 comes along and makes all the purchases I made obsolete. I agree with you but to a degree, cause once I finish a game I hardly look back.

The thing I really despise is tht sony would put those games back on ps4 again through ps4 but charge again! Wtf.

Well if we are really lucky Gaikai will be free (not likely) and for people tht already purchased games from psn just have to re-download those games if they want to for free. Not exactly BC but you get the point.

About tht steambox, I know steam is an online streaming game service? What are the benefits of this steambox? All I know is games are cheap on steam. Do I need a pc for this steambox?

I also rarely look back on games, but if I buy a game then that damn game should be mine. PSN and disc games alike need to share that fact. Like I said, I absolutely love my PS3, but I absolutely hate what Sony is doing.

The Steam box (like all consoles) is just a repackaged PC. This one is centered around the Steam client instead of the PS and Xbox firmware. It's entirely a console, shares many titles that Steam already boasts, can support up 8 separate TVs at once (no need for splitscreen if everyone has their own TV, but splitscreen is still an option) and it's an open box. The open box part means if we don't like what is currently in the Steam box and we want to change it, we can. Hardware, software, you name it.

It's an upgrade to consoles, making them more like PCs but still the ease of a console. Right now there are only three known variations of the box, each one stronger than the last. Just like with Xbox or PS3, they have higher tier versions for more money, but the Steam Box gives you more than just a few gigs of memory for your money. Seriously, man, give it a look. My only concern is that Valve isn't advertising as hard as they could and so it isn't as well known as the console powerhouses, so that could hurt them. No one makes games for consoles that barely exist (Gamecube, anyone?).

Oh wow thts genius man.
The good tier sucks.. I should then buy the better or best tier. I have read the majority of the links you provided and Im impressed so far. They should hurry up announcing more.

Major contestant wow.

Yeah, now you see why I was wondering why it wasn't included or added in. :P As it currently stands, Steam box is my first choice for any of the next consoles, standing far above the others atm. Just my choice, but hey!

I can truly see myself going next gen with ps4 and Wii U at the moment. Why? It all depends if the nextbox is going to be an online only bs system where players might have to pay more for the full experience. In a way like an xbox live gold member but just paying more for a subscription. If they make us pay every month for it? Ps4 all the way and Wii U is what is going to happen. For the Wii U there are a lot of games that interest me such as the next smash bros, Zelda, new Xeno,(monolith game) and a lot more. PS4 has surprised me just a little and the only thing at the event that was exciting was that Destiny would be a ps4 title. This is good for Bungie because Sony owners all missed out on Halo which was pretty much their best selling series.

All this being said, I can see myself playing Destiny on the PS4 if the nextbox is something I deem shite or just not needed overall. I am sick of shooters but Destiny is a total exception since this is an all new game created by Bungie who have been dark for quite awhile now. I just cannot wait to see more of it because as of right now it looks pretty good. It is online only but at least it is free.

I can safely say if Bungie make Destiny a total feat and surpass Halo, there probably will not be any Halo. (5 and 6 might not interest me if Destiny is amazing)

There are honestly a ton of games I want this year and I will complete all of those before making the jump to next gen.

I hope Gaikai will be very helpful in terms of obtaining games that some brilliant people missed out on.

I'm not really hooked on the Steam Box personally. I don't really see how it is any different from just taking my PC, plugging it into my TV, buying some controllers for it, and turn on Steam Big Picture. And I already did all that :P People who are already PC gamers, probably aren't the target audience though, and I can definitely see how it could win over some people who have never considered the PC a viable option before.
