if FFVII had no spin offs or Advent Children???

To me, yes it would be ALOT different.

I know people who believed at the end of VII all of humanity died and only animals remained as they were good for the Earth. Now that may have been a good ending if AC wasnt created. Oh boy, their reactions when AC was released was no a good one!!

Also, we wouldnt have, and yes there are some, fanboys who jump the wagon. Ive seen people on forums claiming they know EVERYTHING on VII cause theyve seen AC, but havent played the actual game?! WTF I hear you cry. This peeves me off no end. People ranting on bout Cloud, Tifa and Sephy just because they have seen a movie about them. They havent bothered with the characters history or the game, etc. Really does piss me off when some of us play the damn game and then watch the movie. Not the other way round! Yes I know AC inspired people to play the game afterwards, but I dont believe these people to be the ones also saying they know VII inside and out due to the movie.

Opinions?

I love all the games in the compilation. It wouldnt be different because FFVII came before the spin-offs in real life. We just wouldnt know as much as we do about what happens before and after FFVII. I am glad that I can know about things like Zack and Vincent's past, as well as what happens after Meteorfall.

It would be the same in game, but we would be much more misinformed about the backstory and afterstory of the game.

I tend to see the compilation as nothing more than a fan wank, and a bad one at that. I like to think that humans survived, Cloud and Tifa got together, and there was several decades of reconstruction and politicking. But after a while, everything settled down. Mako became a banned energy source and Shinra was disbanded. I had it in my mind, until AC came out, that Rufus was dead. I saw him get vaporized by Weapon.

I think Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus were the spinoffs that made the biggest impact, whereas Last Order and Crisis Core more served to clear up plot holes in the original.
For me, I thought the same as Darth Ultor in that I thought Cloud and Tifa (finally) got together, and that Rufus was dead and Shinra was in ruins. Maybe not disbanded, since I thought that Reno, Rude and Elena were still alive. I certainly never thought the world had been vapourised...
I don't think AC and DofC made a huge impact on the original game, just that I thought that Rufus and Tseng were dead and it was then revealed that they weren't. (I was happy because they were two of my favourite characters, but still)
In terms of fanbase... it may have gained a few fans through the spinoffs but if I think about it, most people I know that aren't FF fans really didn't enjoy the spinoffs because they hadn't played the original game... so it works both ways.

Yeah, I kind of like it when games leave the ending sort of ambiguous so players can fill in the blanks. I didn't think humanity had been wiped out, I just thought the planet had "reclaimed" the dead land around Midgar and revived it, and that there were still people in other places (like Cosmo Canyon, for instance). But when AC came out and there were still people living around Midgar, I was just like, "OK...?"

As for the recent comers, it doesn't really bother me. If they really want to learn all about the plot, they'll play the original. If they don't, they're the ones missing out.

Of course it would be different without all the spinsoff etc. I like VII and i've seen the movie although I really haven't played the SOs just because IMO original is always better and if I did decide to play it's just going to 1) get me confused or 2) bug the fuck outof me most likely. I would like to leave it where it's at so thats why I haven't choosen to play the SOs.

I prefer the ambigous ending to the compilation. I mean AC was just one big fan wank. Seriously... Rufus is alive? Sephiroth comes back? The turks had bigger roles than most members of the acutal party? Vincent's role was bigger than Barret's? It was also fun not knowing if humanity survived at the end. I've always liked the idea that if humanity did survive at the end, that Cloud went off on his own searching for his promised land. A complete everyone is happy ending just wouldn't seem appropriate for this game.

Now you have all these preteens raving about the game because they saw AC even though they have never played it. And how hawt Cloud is. <.< And where the heck did all these Reno fangirls/boys come from!

Wow, for the first time concerning FFVII, I feel in the minority.

I never once thought the planet was decimated by Meteor. But at the same time, I never cared to wonder what would have happened afterwards, except that somehow Red XIII was no longer the last of his kind. I bought AC, and I got halfway (I think) through DoC... I largely ignored AC. DoC was... weird to me. It came off as a second giant corporation some how manages to build up a mass of forces and technology while FFVII was going on, but remain hidden, from what I understood of it. Which struck me as weird.

And I'm a Reno fanboy/girl... Whatever you want to call me. I'm not even sure myself. He was cool in FFVII, and only made cooler in AC. Along with Rude, to a lesser extent. Every one else went downwards on the coolness factor with me, in AC.
