Whenever you sit down and prepare to do a work of say...art, in this context we also say anime-style art, what gets you inspired to do it?

Whenever I sit down and start to draw an anime-ish style drawing, it's either because I saw a cool anime on TV or on the internet and I'm eager to be able to replicate something like it.

Same goes for composing music, writing fiction/non-fiction, etc. Where do you get your inspiration to do something from?

Well, on all levels, any creative work is some kind of replication (I'm a big believer in the philosophy of archetypes), but I'd say that one of my favorite ways to get inspired (especially if you're stuck) is to change your workspace.

If I'm having trouble writing on the computer, I'll go somewhere else and instead write using paper and pencil. If it's a problem with art, I'd try using a different media.

But if it's a matter of getting visual art inspiration to start a work from scratch, I like to take ideas from written works and interpret them visually (that way, I'm forcing myself to create a concept and not rely on a previous work of art).

For writing, I often start with a phrase that either pops into my head, or one that I hear from somewhere that just sticks on me. And then I work the plot to wrap around that phrase.

Hm...I can't really say anything specifically motivates me to start working on something. I just have "moments" of "enlightenment" when I'm suddenly full of ideas. For each enlightening idea I have, I start something new; which I guess...makes it a trademark of mine to have incomplete artworks.

That sounds like me with writing. I have moments like that so it's hard to say what really motivates or inspires me.

Although I have been inspired, on numerous occasions, while listening to music. Also, poking around at wikipedia often inspires ideas for some reason.

Well for writing....my friend and I write fan fiction together. So when ever we get together we start brain storming. Some ideas we come up are from different life situations and silly things that occur.

As for art....well I'm either forced on a subject, or I randomly just think of ideas. I'm only forced to do a certain subject in art class. I get my motivation to draw from seeing other people's drawings or from a piece of art. I usually force myself to do better and do something original.

Same here, it's actually much easier to do this than creating ideas out of your own head without any source (though it is considered genius when you actually do so :P). Besides, everything's open to interpretation that you have an almost infinite leeway on design and stuff like that.

My thread titles bear the marks of Beatles songs. Often I sift through my media player, pick out a good title, think of something that might go along with the title words, and then go from there.

I usually get all my inspiration from anything I read in books, the newspaper or what I see on TV. It doesn't take much for an idea to pop into my head expecially when I'm writing. Sometimes I like an idea in a couple of movies and see if I can put them together to make it even better

Hmm, I would say music. I put in a very soothing song - like Japanese and a piano piece and I'm instantly motivated. It's like magic. xD

As far as writing go, I have to think really deep and relate to what I'm writing about - either it be personal experiences or people I know that have experienced such things.

It depends. Sometimes I'll get done reading a novel, or watching something on TV and be inspired to adapt some of its ideas and modify them to add in my own twist. Especially when it was something I've read or watched that had me glued to it and leaves me wishing that it would just continue on and I could still hold on to it once it finally ends.

Other times it's when I'm bored off my ass and my mind begins to wonder. I have a really overactive imagination and I get all kinds of ideas, usually when I'm not in a position to be able to implement them because I'm stuck in the middle of something else and I'm just really, really bored with the task. Work is a good example, most of these ideas I get while I'm at work. Used to keep a little pocket-sized black notebook in my pocket and that went everywhere with me. I'd write down random ideas in it so I'd remember them. But after lurking in that same pocket every day for more than a year straight the poor little bastard fell apart at the seams.
