Who is the main protagonist of X?

Lets see, the character you control for the ENTIRE game(aside from the Via Purificio where you start as Yuna or maybe another place or two Im forgetting) is Tidus. The game starts with Tidus, Auron tells him its his story, Sin brings him to Spira, Sin is his dad, Tidus narrates the entire game, hell he even takes over the Aurochs for Wakka, the romance with Yuna, the fact that without him Spira would have never changed and Yuna would be dead from the final summoning. Why we are even debating this is laughable, Yuna is a best supporting actress to Tidus' lead role.

Because you guys still think its Tidus.......Well you made me do it (I got my dictionary out)

Defonition of Protagonist:
The leading character or one of the major characters in a play, film, novel, etc.
the main figure or one of the most prominent figures in a situation
hero, or heroine, cheif person in charge or a leading actor, character.

Nothing above represents Tidus :mokken:
We all know Yuna is the person in charge......We even see that through Tidus's point of view. Yuna is the main Protagonist.....and if you take into consideration whats above,I believe Auron could be the secondary protagonist.....He's way more heroic than Tidus. I'm sure we can all agree on that!

Honestly that is a pretty good counterpoint to the Tidus supporters, I still honestly believe it is Tidus, but I would accept that reasoning for Yuna too, well done sir

If I may be so bold as to take a different tack, I think Auron has a shout out for being the main protagonist. He was the first to discover the whole Yevon-Sin fraud in travelling with Jecht. He clung to 'life' without being sent in order to fulfil his purpose, and along the way sent Kimahri to Yuna, who in turn was largely responsible for what Yuna became. He then plucked Tidus from Dream Zanarkand after riding Sin - he was the ONLY ONE who could bring Tidus to where he needed to be - and he quickly became the elder statesman for the party on the quest. In spite of what he knows, he leads the party to the brink with some gentle coercion, before eventually getting them to do what is required, i.e. destroy Yunalesca, then Sin, not momentarily but eternally. Tidus and Yuna are the major players in the middle of the story but Auron begins it and ends it. Nobody should forget that, although Tidus disappears at the end of the game, it also represents the ending of Auron, who made the whole story, and the satisfying conclusion to it, possible.

Tidus is the storyteller, not the protagonist. A lot of his beliefs are influenced by Auron who was his teacher and pillar of support. Yet let's not forget that Auron comes into Tidus's life specifically for this purpose, to bring him to Sin and faciliate the PERMANENT defeat of Sin. Yes, Tidus is important, he is the weapon, a dream fighting a dream, but it's Auron who is the catalyst for the major events at the beginning, middle and end of the story. He may not come across as such because of his peripheral nature but I think he is under-stated in a very deliberate, careful way.

I never looked at it like that, but I suppose it makes a lot of sense! I do feel that Auron was not credited as much as he should have been for his actions, despite being the one pulling the strings and guiding the party to do what needed to be done.

I've always considered Yuna to be the main protagonist. Like others have said, Tidus follows on her pilgrimage. The story is simply told from his perspective.

Also, people say that without Tidus, then Yuna's pilgrimage would have went the same as other's, but I'm not so sure. The story could easily have been adapted without him, but that's not the case (at all) with Yuna.

Yuna...simple as.
She has more influence in the game than Tidus does.
So I would class Tidus as being like...a big sidestory to her own personal journey.

There is more than one main character in some things and I think FFX shows that. I thought Tidus was the main but you are travelling through a journey with two characters; not one. As far as I see it, the game is about Tidus and Yuna. Not one or the other. It's about their relationships with eachother and many different people. Experiances and such. Just how I see it and nobody can change that view for me.

I know you play as Tidus, as the story is told by Tidus from his point of view. But I'm going to say both, as Yuna has done a bunch of development throughout the story and she IS the leader.

I'm gonna have to Agree with Aerith on this one... the game is aimed at 2 characters rather than 1, it shows how tidus ends up on spria, and how he finds out about the truth about his father, it also shows how yuna have developed as a summoner and as a character, as in the later parts of the game yuna seems open minded and has no fear, but also, it shows the love story between the two of them, how tidus and yuna meet, become friends and overtime how they end up falling in love with eachother.. soo for me it's Yuna AND Tidus

The one thing I think this game does great is involve all the characters equally. We get to know about their past and see how they become involved as Yunas guardian.
Lulu and Wakka having grew up with her, all about rikku losing home, Auron being sent at the end and so on.
I feel as if the characters stories all feel completed at the end of the game. So I'd like to think its about the group as a whole as opposed to a protagonist, but if I had to, I'd agree that it would be both Tidus and Yuna.
