...in comparison to XI? What changes in Squares MMORPG are you hoping to see?

I hope it's alot more casual, I know that XI supposedly "eased up" but I would like to jump into the gameplay and get the leveling over with early, so I can jump into the dungeons, storyline and gear alot earlier.

Permanent chocobos would be nice too, although they might have fixed this in XI before I quit.

PVP in-between nations that is constantly going, so I don't have to wait on Ballista. Not like World of WarCraft or Ultima where you can get jumped anywhere, as anybody, but I would like to PVP without events going on.

Any other ideas?

Well no matter what, it'll take quite some time for you to level up, especially in the higher levels. I agree the leveling could have been slightly faster at least to about level 25 or 30.

One thing I HATED about FFXI which made me quit, was how anti solo the game was. Naturally for tougher missions, you need to travel in groups. But they generally made group leveling almost everywhere, mandatory. Even in the 'non-group areas' where you can level, it seemed somewhat difficult. And if you ran into a semi-uncommon enemy, you'd get the floor wiped with your face.

A little more leniency and casualness with leveling would have been good. Especially since at times it would take me a couple hours to find a group to travel with. I would have liked if it was significantly faster than that. Like with Guild Wars, at least give a character the accessibility for NPC's to use like Henchman or Heroes. Then if you manage to find one or two other people, you can at least handle most of the stuff.

I mostly quit the game because of the group thing. There's just no excuse for that. I felt like I was wasting my time and money, more so than simply having to pay monthly already did. I can't speak about too much else. I got as far as Junon/getting a Chocobo. I didn't do PvP or much crafting stuff.

I had an awful experience with FFXI though, so unless XIV blows me away, I probably won't buy it. That saddens me a bit, since I've purchased every single numbered Final Fantasy except III. And the only reason I don't have that is because I chose PSP over DS.

To be honest, I struggled with the controls.
I'd like to see FFXIV on a WASD format for movement.

Leveling I'd like to stay at slow progression, That way, I feel, you are getting your moneys worth out of the game.

Obviously Graphically its going to be a massive improvement, but thats not what I play for.

Character Interaction could be a bit smoother, the chat box on FFXI get crowded, It is annoying.

So, all in all there should be a load of improvements, Im rather excited!

You can, you need to go into the options and change this setting under the keyboard settings.

Also, just to let everyone know there will be no leveling what so ever in Final Fantasy XIV. Everything is going to be skilled based and this will be based around weapons. There will be no classic FF job classes such as red mage, summoner, etc.

I really want open world pvp, im not sure how yet though. I like faction based stuff, but i hate being limited to half a gameworld based off that. I just remember waiting hours and hours for drops to have someone lower lvl get it, PvP makes those wait a lil funner if ya ask me.

1) Travel Times Reduced

2) Smoother controls as well as better camera angles.

3) Up the graphics a bit so at least people won't be too judgmental.

4) More jobs and subjobs.

5) More coop missions and more race oriented gear earlier in the game.

6) Ways to skip cut scenes if it is your 2nd character.

7) Do away with Playonline as a whole.

I don't think a game gets better for casual if the levling goes faster or slower, as a matter of fact wow has proved that wrong as it got easyer and easyer and still boring as usual. What matters is how much fun you have wile leveling, even if it is a long ride to get top leveled as long you have tons of fun all the way it pays off. Back on the times I played Lineage 2, since lvl 50s (1-80 level limits) I played with other ppl, never alone. I just had a group of players that I played always cus the game was made in a way that it was impossible or just too hard and boring to lvl and get gear alone.

I would like to see better Solo, wait i would just like to be able to solo in the game. I know Final Fantasy games have always involved being in some sort of party, but that doesn't really work on an mmorpg. If i just wanted to hop on for like an hour it was pointless, because i probably wasnt going to get a group right away.

The controls i would also like to see changed. The controls were fine with a controller, sort of. They need to make use of the mouse more, i find mmos that implement the mouse, which ive really only played FFXI that didnt, much easier. Im talking about just being able to click on the npc you want to interact with so i dont have to scroll through a bunch. Also no numpad controls. sure its fine if you have like wasd and the numpad but not only the numpad.

I would like to see a full dedicated pvp server. I know this is not for everyone I would just like to see it an option for those who do enjoy that kind of thing, like me. so if there is waring nations i would like to be able to kill them if i see them. i think EQII did a nice job with zone pvp caps so you dont get ganked, but if they dont i really dont care thats how real life would be.

Class selection. First let me make more than one character with out charging me an extra $1. I know a dollar is not much but you should be able to make more than one guy COME ON thats common since stuff. also let me choose from every class right off the bat. sure okay one class could be like a epic class but dont make the majority quested items. always one of the things i hated the most.

Also, just to let everyone know there will be no leveling what so ever in Final Fantasy XIV. Everything is going to be skilled based and this will be based around weapons. There will be no classic FF job classes such as red mage, summoner, etc.

I think that is a bad idea as well. we have seen this done in FFII but i dont think it can be done well in a MMO.

What Square needs to really do if they want a hit is look at their failures in FFXI, and there is a lot, and look what works really well in others and refine them to there game.

Side note they really need to keep lvl sync. was a little cheap so maybe like only so many lvls higher than you could do it, but was a really great addition to the game.

as a matter of fact wow has proved that wrong as it got easyer and easyer and still boring as usual.

I would agree, just because itis easier to lvl up doesnt make the game better. my favorite mmo of all time was EQ and never hit the lvl cap. its just important to have things for midlvl characters to do as well not only highend. i play WoW sadly and its super easy to lvl i have an 80 and 63 a 61 and a 55. ive only played for about 5 months. that should never be happening. on EQ i played forever and my guy only got to 57, at the time the lvl cap was 65.

Getting rid of having to pay for it...... better graphics and more coop missions would be nice.... I like it but theres just those problems...

Getting rid of the whole MMORPG thing. I want to play it myself without PKers and shiz. I want it to be like the other games in the series. Also, the whole Pay thing. Make the game one big price and thats it :mokken:

I played FFXI for a couple of years but quit almost a year and a half ago. After playing many other MMO's the one thing I did notice and thought was much needed in FFXI was being able to actually see the effects of our stats in % amounts, and full overall additions, rather than just our base stats, Attack power and defence.

Being able to see how much crit% our dexterity gave us (acc for 2h weapons) etc. I always felt that there was always somewhat of a 'mystery' to our stats.

Hmm, you know... i love Final Fantasy in general so i HAD to give FFXI a try.... and the ones reason i couldn't get into it compared to other mmo's was the fact that when people talk, i couldn't see it over thier heads. Doesn't that bug anyone else? lol

Also, i would like to be able to see how much damage i am doing above the enemies head (not sure if this was in XI) and i would lso like to be able to see how mcuh damage everyone else is doing. Nothing cooler then when you walk past someone and you see them do some MASSIVE damage, and you wonder how long before you can be that strong =P

i would like to see more jobs and a way to get gil better and faster unlike ffxi gil was prob the worst thing on there though i kno it was cuz of rmts but still like wtf and most deff want to see ninja job in there and more soloin cuz in ffxi it could take hours to get in a pt though i was rdm and nin so didnt take me long but still a time mage would be sick more char creation would be nice also would be kool if they put a mantru in there for get the name of the in ffxiv but im am looking forward to this game been waitin a long time for it to come out and its almost rdy cant wait ima be on it first day it comes out i loved ffxi so 14 should top it...

U can do that in ffxi. And most of what u guys complain was fixed in ffxi or u just didnt try it seriously. But what id really like to be different in ffxiv is:

  • More quest/gear content in the middle lvls, its sad to get into a party and see half group wearing ur same gear, or the fact that if u dont have an especific weapon ur noobiest or newbiest. Tho that isnt much important now w/ the levelsync.
  • More CoP type missions.
  • A better way to earn gil, not that others mmos are better cuz if in wow its alot easier to make 1 gold then in ffxi 1k gil, prices of new gear in wow are alot expensive every year.
  • I didnt have problems w/ the wasd+mouse movement, nor w/ the numpad, so i wish this game have both options for those who enjoy 1 better then other way.
  • No more 24~48h respawn NM/HNM with 0.00001% drop rate.
  • More solo stuff to do tho SE aklready said they working in that in this game.
  • A better class balance, in ffxi is really hard when theres only 2 tanks and few healers and on higher levels ppl get more selective with what job pick to pt with.
  • More camera moves.
Well, theres alot more things to improve from ffxi that is a great game, but also has alot of bugs. And im sure ill get ffxiv asap, dunno if id play it for 7 years like i did in ffxi, just hoping its as good as ffxi was.

What I would like to see in FFXIV

1: Owning a chocobo mount. And perhaps in later levels, teaching your chocobo how to fly.

2: I liked in FFXI how you could have a subclass. I think this should continue. ex. Tarutaru summoner/white mage or ninja/warrior

3: Solo is a must in mmorpg games. it was really bad having to wait an hour or several hours for a good group to level up with. I'd like to see 1-2 players (single or small group) for levelling areas and maybe groups of 5 for dungeons where you would fight bosses and collect unique/high quality equipment. I think unique combinations of subclasses would make soloing effective and fun. warrior/white mage? but i'm not sure how jobs work in XIV just yet, so i'm getting ahead of myself. of course it'd be kinda fun having an archer/summoner and be able to summon a pet to tank for you. of course i'd also think it'd have been sweet if, as a dragoon, your baby dragon grew up and you could use it as your mount as well.

4: Region based servers. It became difficult looking through a word/phrase library to try to communicate with players using a different language. or at least make it optional, have american servers/european servers/japanese servers and maybe a couple multicultural servers.

5: Please, please no rarespawns in levelling areas. I like how world of warcraft has instances set up and perhaps rare spawns should happen inside those with a small chance that it will appear. this will eliminate camping in levelling areas. if someone wants the chance to get great gear from a rare spawn, they should have to run a dungeon several times to find it instead of camping a spot for 12 hours and hoping to get the first hit.

I want elements from the previous Final Fantasies. Jobs from different games, lvling styles from different games, Limit Break, Materia/Relics, Sphere Grid, 2 Hour Abilities and Paradigm Shift. But obviously all that would be to confusing.

i got to say this.

alot of the things you guys are complaining about was already addressed in FFXI, ive played that game since its release date, you can change the controls and fix the chat logs where certain things are left out so it wont get all clogged up, the leveling was drastically improved... the only thing it has wrong with it in my opinion right now is the bots that ruin gil farming and meeting friends... that is mainly because the game is soo old only diehards still play...

i think this new one will tower over 11, simply because more people will flock to it, the gameplay was never really the point... we final fantasy fans enjoyed the company more than anything else... ask anyone who played 11 seriously for years, leveling and storyline were only second to the chance to hang out with fellow lovers of the title. granted we all love better graphics, easier leveling, more places to go... but in the end what brought us all together with 11? it was trying to run to jeuno at lvl 10 for the first time with someone you just met, and dieing 20 times on the way there, racing to lvl 75 and enduring hours of looking for a party just chatting with your new friends... you all complain about the mechanics of the old game but it brought us together... im not saying improvements arnt nessicary or good, im just saying think about what you guys bitch about first.

Inventory system.
I quit FFXI a while ago so i don't know if this issue is already addressed but the inventory system was really bothersome and time consuming. You have very limited inventory space (even with all the gobby bags) and the equipment that you wear stays in your inventory which causes the inventory to fill up fast. This only got worse the further you came in the game and you start to carry around specific armor/accessory sets for different situations.
As lvl 70 PLD i used to carry around 3 different sets; full defense, balanced and full attack. Which left little space for anything else.
This also made job switching a pain in the butt. You (still?) can only move 8 items at a time through your moogle. Making switching from one job to another with moving around 6 sets of equipment a very time consuming business.

That being said i don't really have that much complaints about FFXI that i would like to see different.
Actually i hope that FFXIV will be FFXI with a engine update and some (minor) adjustments. :)
