...got you hooked on them? Was it the fascinating worlds created out of the video game developers' minds, the addictive fun gameplay, interesting characters, storylines, or something else entirely?

For me it was mainly the charming little worlds that games were set in back when I first got into playing video games when I was about 2 years old, that and the very enjoyable gameplay.

First game I ever played was Super Mario Bros., and even though the concept of it is quite straightforward and simple, it was a lot of fun side scrolling through dozens of stages, trying to survive for enemies and hazards as it got increasingly difficult and challenging. :D

So, what got you into video games, and has it stayed just as exciting throughout all the years you've played as when you first got into them? With technology advancing all the time, the video game industry has done an excellent job of keeping me excited about upcoming games, and enjoying them when they finally come out and I get them.

Thats actually a good question ,for me it changed through time.

I first looked at the game play for example Tekken, then it changed for a period that I first looked at the graphics, if there were interesting characters or not and then I would see what the story would be like and gameplay.

I started to love Final fantasy thanks to the graphics and the characters, same goes for Devil may cry because Dante looked very very interesting xD

But now I look at the story and gameplay first and FFVII is one of those reasons.

I got a Gameboy for my seventh birthday with Super Mario Land, and it was a completely new thing for me. I got completely hooked, and then the Pokemon craze hit...after that, if it was like Pokemon, I wanted to try it. As I got older, I branched out a bit. I'd put my video game addiction down to Pokemon - it swept me up and refused to let me go. By the time the craze died down a bit, I was in love with several other different games. There is also Sonic in part, as well. I love the cartoons. I love the games.

I also enjoyed playing with Abe in Oddworld on my aunt's boyfriend's Playstation. Plus there was Banjo Kazooie on my friend's N64...everything was just so appealing when I was younger. And there is so much variety now. I'm incredibly picky, but I find it easy to find a game that appeals to me and just sit and play it. That is part of the attraction as well, I guess.

Games provide an escape from reality, as well. I've always enjoyed reading books, but games don't require me to use my imagination - the world, the characters and everything else are already set out for me, and I can interact with them as it please me. Its easier to get into games for me, as a general rule.

So, its any number of different things. Although I think initially it was playing games based on my favourite cartoon characters, and then exploring what else there was, that got me started.

At the time I played them it was a new toy for me. Pretty cartoon on the screen and I could control this blue hedgehog! I was in love. The older I got I was able to escape my real life in a second by becoming Lara Croft, Solid Snake, Squall Leonheart, George Stobbart, Guybrush Threepwood, etc. It was a way to get rid of stress and a new way of communication with people you would rarely speak to. It got me new friends, boyfriends, jobs!

Games and gamers are not to be slated.

The fact that I was in control. Mario was the first game I played also, and I remember making Mario jump down the cliffs on purpose and laughing. I also remember shooting at the ducks on duck hunt and wishing I could shoot that dog that kept laughing at me. >_<

Well, I got into video games from watching my dad play them. Such as Civilization, The Legend of Dragoons, Final Fantasy etc. It entertained me oh so much :D I think I liked the action. It fascinated me and I got really into it. I would even (i dunno about you guys) but when I was younger, I'd read my character's (i know it sounds silly) text aloud giving each of them different voices (along with my sis and bros) so, it really was fun. I think though the first i've ever played was Mario Bros on.... whatchamacallit system xD I think just Nintendo with my bros. I was always Luigi cus i liked him better :D I liked killing the goombas and riding Yoshi! I just loved the action. idk.

I first of all, get into games weather or not it interest me... i'm not going to just buy a game. I like graphics and all but, a game should be played for the plot storyline etc that's what I aim for anyways. If it passes my interest level then, i'll pick it up and try it. It really all depends on exactly what game it is but one thing I like in a game is great characters, battle system and storyline. Without those things there's really no point.

So basically:
action
characters
storyline
battle system
graphics (for the most part)
and entertainment (how fun it is)

The fact that I was in control. Mario was the first game I played also, and I remember making Mario jump down the cliffs on purpose and laughing.

Funny you say that, when I first started playing it I kept just walking that first Goomba that would appear, then once I finally picked up on jumping over them I got past 'em, then there was that gap to jump over, I kept walking right off the edge and dying repeatedly, but thing was, I didn't know better yet, then I eventually caught on to jumping across it (I don't think I was even two full years old when I first started playing, my brain had a lot of developing to do still. xD). >.>

When I first got into gaming I would have been in primary school and my dad had just brought home a second hand Sega with a million games from one of our old friends.

I fell in love with it and would play Sonic, Spot, Paperboy etc every day until I had played them all.

The funny thing was, we didn't have a memory card, so I would be on that Sega forever trying not to get game over in order to get to the highest levels. >.<

I think the craze died down once I left primary school and I honestly didn't think I would get back into gaming again until my best friend at the time introduced me to FFX. She had like every console you could own as well, so it was all very new for me all over again and I was instantly fascinated about gaming once more.

It introduced me to fanfiction, as all of my fanfiction is based on games, and it also introduced me into online foruming. I've not once joined a forum unless it had something to do with games.

The stories definitely got me addicted. I find it hard to play a game that doesn't have a decent story, otherwise it just bores me.

I never realised until my friend showed me FFX that games could be so much more then, shoot shoot, bang bang and such. XD

I do realize now I did miss out a very valid reason for getting into video gaming; escaping from real life, a lot like on the Internet, I'm a lot more relaxed on the Internet than in real life, even while playing video games, because I am very competitive, so if I am in danger of losing in multi-player then sometimes I get a bit worked up about it. >.>

I mostly play one player games though, like Final Fantasy, but yeah, another thing I like about playing video games, that reason I mentioned at the start of this post about it being a good way to escape real life, that's definitely nice, because something real life isn't so nice, unfortunately.

The first game I ever played was Super Mario World. My dad bought a SNES a brought it and some baseball game home. Me and him played for hours. Sometimes my friends would come to play. I will always remember the joy I felt when I finally defeated Bowser. :)

A few years later, I played The Legend of Zelda. At first I just played it because Link had a sword, and swords are awesome. I thought the dungeons where very creative and the bosses even more. Ganon/Ganondorf was pretty awesome. (in a weird way :P)

And then came MEGAMAN X. I was amazed at how fast-paced a game could be. I liked the fact you could pick what order you wanted to go through the levels, and the secrets hidden left and right where so well hidden...I'd spend frustrating (but joyful) hours on end finding a way to get to the armor upgrades. In my opinion, probably the best video game series ever. (Sorry FF :()

Then came FF. I just picked up FF4 for the DS at a random store because a lot of people told me about it. Then I was hooked by the storyline, and victory theme :P

For me,it all started with super mario world, then later on I would still follow the path to gaming, and here I am still in that path but in the newer generations,i missed the old generations, playing super mario world when i was small, lemme tell u, remakes of 1980 or 1990 games are good but original games of the gcn in 2000s had remakes on the wii, there not that intresting or fun, same old experience.

Wow... Lets see what I can pull out of this twisted gnarl that is my brain.

I remember at a very young age having a game on my computer that was all text based. My father being a computer engineer always had a computer at home and always showed me games. You had to go from windows 3.1 into DOS to type in the game to play it. From there I had Duke Nukem and Commander Keen.

Somewhere in there we went to a Sears, and I got Nintendo. I got the cart with Mario and Duck Hunt. From then on, I have always been hooked. I will give any game a chance. I look for certain things in different genres. For instnace RPG's need to have a great story to get lost in. FPS's need to be fast paced, and keep me glued to the screen. Recently Battlefield has been filling that role. Racing games need to make me feel like I am actually driving, so basically be Gran Turismo.

The ability to lose myself in the game, and become a character is what draws me in. Nothing beats coming home from a day at work, and being able to be someone else for a while.

Ah, I forgot about my own thread, been a bit busy with some stuff lately. xP Duck Hunt...that brings back memories, I can remember putting the Zapper literally right up to the screen and just putting it over any ducks that appeared on the screen and just shooting them down like that. :wacky:

And Gran Turismo, it was a while of video gaming before I got the first of those games to be sure, but when I did, I really enjoyed it, having a bunch of races to get a ton of cash then purchase a really cool looking and fast car. :awesome:

Can't remember of the first racing game I ever got, it was for the NES, and it was something Grand/Gran Prix. >.>

I think for me, well the answer is simple, they are fun. I always liked spending hours trying to get past random obsticales in NES and SNES games. And the music always motivated me to play too. Maybe I'm just a bit nerdy XD

There is almost nothing to do where I live (southern Ohio). Movies are expensive and you really can't interact with another person when playing one, there is no cool hang out place that is nearby. So it's fun to get friends together to play video games. I don't get yelled at for talking too much XD

As for RPGs, I've always liked the fantasy genre and many RPGs take place in a medeval setting with magic involved. So it was fun for me to be able to interact with a fanasy like world. The stories in RPGs were also paced well and it didn't feel like everything was crammed into a time limit.

The characters, the worlds...pretty much everything. Though they don't really grasp me as much as they did in the past, i still enjoy playing games though.

First games i ever played were mario and duck hunt, i played them for hours trying to get a high score. Though everytime the dog laughed at me for missing a duck got on my nerves. :hmph:

I still enjoyed playing it anyway, after awhile i just laughed everytime i failed trying to get the ducks. :wacky:

I dunno.... I just always loved them ever since being really young, I cant remember the first game I ever played.... probably pacman or summat on my nexdoor neighbours atari/amiga whatever the fuck it was

I was jut instantly hooked

There are probably quite a lot of factors, which probably decide what type of genre I choose as well. To me, nothing beats and epic storyline that makes you sit there and think what a hell of a good game that was, characters are up there to for the reason I started liking videogames, like the storyline, nothing beats a solid, well developed character with a great background. The OST steals it for me to, take something like Chrono Cross and with that OST you can't possible go wrong. The art concepts are pretty win as well, though that probably made me more interested in art rather than gaming. :8F:

I plyed Super mario world first. I just loved the character Mario nad I would even jump with him all the time for fun xD It got fun when you got to play as Luigi too. I remeber I always used to play pacman at my aunts house which was pretty fun. It was peace and quiet in the back room. But now what gets too me are the character designs the gameplay, story and places. Like for instance some games like FFX have tropical islands. Like Besaid is beautiful xD Then from there I kept playing and playing other games. But I love noone mor ethan FF and Xenosaga. Those are my 2 absolute favorites. Also Music of course. If music is beautiful ill buy the game cause of tht lol
