I <3 Quina!
I'm just curious, but, what happens if you dont pick up quina on your way to gizamalukes grotto?

Your characters don't feel like puking every 5 seconds and fight much much better. lol No, I think you can just pick her up at any time, can't you? I honestly don't know.
nothing - you dont technically Have to get quina until Zidane Garnet and Vivi are going to the new contintent - then you must get Quina and itll be an on/off member for most of disk 2 and 3 and a permanent member near the end of disk 3 and disk 4.
If you don't get Quina on the way to Burmecia, you're forced to get him on the way to the (I think) Outer Continent. It's unavoidable

yeah plus you eventually would have to get her when you pair up for the weddings at Condie Petite or whatever it's called, and at the 3 shrines when Zidane has to pair up with Quina to fight the Earth Guardian.
Does he have to pair up with the living blob? I thought you could assign them all?
no he has to pair up with Quina - as you only get to see the fight with Lich. not Marilith Kraken and Kirin (at least i think there the names)

I only didn't take Quina on my first play-through. I was too adamant on training at the time, so I didn't venture into that seemingly unnecessary glob of marsh... with a strange protruding hut.
Every other time I played it, I went to get Quina. The frog catching is totally worth the prizes. Though getting armours became expensive. D'=
When I needed to fight Beatrix for first time, without Quina, it was a hell. Whanever she used Shock a character dies, so to avoid that I got Quina and ate some creature in Burmecia so he could learn Magic Hammer. At first use on Beatrix Magic Hammer lower her mana for around 2000.
I did do it on one of my many times where I played the first disc without saving. (I didn't have a memory card then.) I know that I was doing quite good in the grotto until the giant ugly pink mermaid showed up and kicked my ass. Then I had to start over.
