I've had a bump on my wrist for the last year or so. Sometimes, it goes away and it doesn't create any issues. But whenever I do anything that requires using my hand -- working out or playing an instrument -- the bump comes back and it makes my wrist a little sore. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I've been doing research and I believe it to be a cyst. I'm in need of advice. Should I just assume it's a Ganglion cyst and just simply smash it with a book keeping in mind that infectious fluid could be spread, or should I wait ten years for the economy to recover so I can get a job, wait for my medical benifits to become active and then go to a docter where there's a 70% chance that they're just going to tell me to smash it anyway? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

i've actually got something pretty similar myself, except mine has never hurt me. it first cropped up about three or four years ago, then disappeared but its shown up again recently. i was told by a family friend, who is a nurse, that it's most likely just some kind of fluid build up and is completely harmless, so i've never done anything about it.
obviously it's impossible to say that it's the same thing, but there's a possibility.

.

Well, from everything that I've read, it's supposedly a build up of calcium and other minerals, although occasionally there's harmful bacteria hence why I'm scared to just flat out smash it.

Two older women I used to work with had them and just smashed them against the wall. Supposedly it kinda hurts but it's more relieving than anything.. makes the most horrible popping noise too. If you're not in a position to see a Doctor with insurance about it.. smash it. But I've never had one myself, so..

I find it entirely hilarious that the first guy to reply is Usernamed The Doctor:lew:

I have 1 of these I think............you know what after checking Wiki I dont think its the same thing? It might be a smaller version of it but I doubt it.

Good luck to you Wade in defeating this thing in your gimpy wrist.

Actually, I think that it's already gone. I was doing push ups last night and I can collapsed on my wrist. A few minutes later I looked, and the lump was gone. I'm hoping that this is the last time that it'll be coming back. *knocks on wood* Just a precaution.

some people I worked with developed those as from having carpel tunnel syndrome. They had to have surgery.

Sure you don't also have carpel tunnel ?

Well, it's been two days since it popped and there haven't been any problems so far. It hasn't come back and I've yet to come down with any illnesses so I'm thinking (and hoping) that it was just benign and I won't have to worry about anything for a while.
