So yeah discussion about Singers/Vocalists/Frontmen etc. Im a Vocalist myself so thought it would be a great idea.

Are you one? Who are your favoite singers? what styles you like? etc

I do a decent Vader ripoff (working on Martyr), and I'm semi-proficient at Load-Garage, Inc. era Hetfield and Warrel Dane vocals, but I'm not good enough with the last two to want to join a band as a vocalist. My favorite vocalists are Warrel Dane (Nevermore), Tom Englund (Evergrey - his appearance on Nightrage's "Sweet Vengeance" album is sublime), Piotr Wiwczarek (Vader), and Daniel Mongrain (Martyr). When Hetfield doesn't try to stretch his vocals too high on Load through Garage, Inc, I dig those, too. Special mention to Halford's "Painkiller" performance.

I like clean vocals that don't sound like the vocalist's balls are in a vice (I do listen to a number of bands that fall in this category, though), and any number of harsh styles. Don't really have a favorite, though.

Clean vocals for the win!

I seem to be rather Bruce Dickinson like (mid 90's-today, I can't really do a good 'Air Raid Siren' Brucey) with hints of Ronnie James Dio, Wino, and Ville Valo. When it calls for abit of aggresion in the vocal I tend to take a Dave Mustaine approch.

It all depends on the nature of the song. I like to give it a personality as such and not make it sound the same so there tends to be abit of a variaty between one vocal and another.

I can't really stand screamy or growly vocals such as Cradle of Filth etc but recently I have found myself slipping abit of Phil Anselmo for the more Pantera and Down-esq moments.

I used to be in a band years ago as a school thing, but I've developed my style much since ofcourse. unfortuatly knowone wants to work with someone who can sing these days, its all about the 'growl' innit.

i don't do bands and all, but i've been told i'm a great rapper...

also, my favorite vocalist is Mike Shinoda, front guy of Fort Minor and 2nd vocalist and guitarist of Linkin Park

i also like Brother of Words, the vocalist of Bomfunk mc's, he's a great rapper, but not really known by the crowd
he's half Jamaican i think, guess that's where his talent comes from :P
well at least he's half black...

i'm no singer, but who knows

my favorite vocalist is, hands down, Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth. His clean voice is at time just Beautiful, and his growl is, well the best I've heard. very harmonic and suits the music extraordinarily. others that stand out for me are Trent Reznor, not the greatest singer but he puts so much emotion into his singing, and your gonna laugh but Dave Matthews, always been a fan and his osngs are awesome.

I'm utterly tone deaf and sing like a strangled cat. But I will say that my favourite vocalists are:
Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
Bob Dylan
Bjork
Ian Curtis (Joy Division)
Michael Stipe (R.E.M.)
PJ Harvey

These are just those singers for me whose voices are hugely distinctive and bring a lot to how great the bands/singers in question are.

Am I a vocalist singer? Um no. Well I do sing and people say I can carry a tune, but it's not like I'd make a career out of it. Singing is just a hobby, among other things.

My favorite vocalist singers? I have quite a few, but Celine Dion's voice really stands out, in my opinion. I love her voice. I like 80's - 90's rock style...you know, those love songs. I prefer calmer music to blaring noises.

I'm not a vocalist...
But for me the greatests vocalists are:
Toshi from X Japan (the band has vanished)
Hyde

I'm a decent vocalist, I've been told. I might do something with it as a hobby, but I doubt I could make a living out of it. Inspiration comes from various vocalists, such as Damian Wilson (ex-Threshold, ex-Landmarq, Ayreon), Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind), Floor Jansen (After Forever), Amy Lee (Evanescence), Diana Bovio (Stream of Passion live), and Heather Findlay (Mostly Autumn).

My voice is a little thin and at its best during softer songs, but I can put a bit of 'punch' in it during heavier/faster songs. Not too much, though, or I end up sounding really impure. That's okay, though. I'm more of a backing/guest vocalist anyway... I doubt I'd be a charming or suitable lead vocalist. Voice is one thing, charisma and stage performance is another.

If there are so many vocalists here, why didn't you guys participate in the vocal competition? lol.
I'm told I have a nice voice, but I think it's alright. XD
My favorite vocalist? Uhm...I think that someone like...Johnny Rzeznik has a nice voice. Don't ask...he's just...my favorite. ^__^

Well my favorite singer is Gackt. He is amazing live. He sounds exactly like his recored voice but you can tell that he is singing. I don't know how he is still an awesome singer and smokes everyday. >_<

I also like Hikaru Utada, nice voice live. Tarja Turunen, ex-singer of Nightwish has a great voice as well.

Matt Bellamy from Muse has an amazing voice IMO. Most people have said its just him screeching down the mic, but I think he has a beautiful voice.
