Vaan too whimpy?

Is vaan really to whimpy?

Played a bit more into the game now where you're stuck having to escape the lower depths of the prison with that captain who betrayed Dalmasca now (can't remember his name). Vaan still isn't whimpy to me. I mean, he even grabbed that captain by the scuff of his neck and had the nerve to say that everything that happened to Dalmasca was his fault! He pinpointed the murder of his brother to him! He isn't a whimp and I just don't understand why people are saying this. I prefer him to most lead characters in the series altogether.
 
I don't think he's a whimp. He looked kind of gay when I first saw a picture of him (the one in Faith's sig), but after playing the game he seemed pretty cool and is also one of my favorite characters to use.
 
Well, the guy who did Vaans voice IRL....... i kinda pictured him to be like that.
 
I don't really like Vaan all that much. I don't hate him, and he doesn't really irritate me, he's just not the type of character I usually like...at all. I can't stand the way he looks either, so when you finally get your band of merry men together, I never usually use Vaan again (unless you have too, like when you're in a town or something).
 
Vaan isn't wimpy. Sure, he doesn't come off as having as strong of an aura as say, Cloud or Squall.. But all FF "heroes" have weaknesses. Vaan may not appear to be as physically strong because, for example, he's not an ex-military soldier with years of training under his belt who wields a huge buster sword or something. But I think that is what's so appealing about him: his vulnerability, his emotions. I find him to be much more "normal" than the previous heroes, in a sense... Vaan is definitely someone that one can relate to much more easily.
 
Personally, I didnt find anything wrong with Vaan. I do however think the Basch and Vaan story ended too quickly. If could have progressed a bit more in my opinion.
 
I've played at least eight hours into the game now and still don't find him to be a whimp. Heck, he even saved Princess Ashe with the others! Any other whimp would have saved his or herself!
 
I really don't think any of the FF main characters or any playable FF character is a wimp. Ok, maybe Edward from IV is the closest you'll get, but even still. Just because they are not super powerful or super strong, that doesn't make them a wimp. And even if that did, pretty much everyone in the entire world would be wimps.

If Vaan were a wimp, he would be running away screaming everytime he got involved with a random battle. And I have yet to see that happen.
 
I agree with Rydia, just because he moans alot doesn't make him weak or cowardly, look at Tidus from FFX he cried, moaned and winged about alot of stuff but he still fought battles
 
I think it's mainly because he's a bit too young. Yes while countless Final Fantasies have had young protagonists, Vaan's immaturity at times at a situation that was dire and serious was probably perceived as being childish.
 
O.K. I know I voted and posted that I thought Vaan was indeed a wimp. BUT I just beat the game last night and I have to say Vaan is not a wimp!! I wish I could change my vote. At the end Vaan does not back down a bit. He actually suprised me how bold he was.
When he got in Vayne's face and knocked him over with Galbranth's sword
I was like go Vaan!! Vaan may be young and dress funny (at least to me) but he is not a wimp.
 
Vaan definately was not the most macho cool charactor in FF history but I still feel he played his part well. He was a good balance for Basch. I actually thought maybe Vaan's brother might've been a better main charactor, maybe just me
 
no no no, it's not just you, his brother was definately more awesome, i mean, c'mon, he had a parade for him and his lady thorugh a city, if that doesn't make you awesoem, i just don't know what does.:)
 
I didn't think Vaan was exactly a wimp... He was just gay. Have you seen his pose in the bonus disc? He looks like some gay guy posing for Playgirl...

Tidus was cool in the sense that he was designed as that superstar player who grew into a warrior!! Squall and Cloud are uncomparable to any characters cuz they were the bad mama jamma of good guys along with Auron!! I think from FFXII the cool character was Balthier!!!!

I actually thought what they did with Tidus being a superstar turned into a warrior was very cliche. Especially at the start he could barely hold such a large sword yet all the way through the game he wields it with one hand.

Vaan is just way too girly for me aswell as having a bad voice over.
 
Sorry to say but Vaan strikes me as a wimp. I mean he's always complaining that he doesn't get his own way and has a tendency to act much too selfish. He also looks way too androgynous and that coupled with the fact that he looks like he's trying to impersonate Aladdin with that Metal vest of his doesn't halp his case. I mean seriously, can't he put on a shirt? Though he does have impressive stats for a wimp. I still say that Reks should've been the hero and not him.
 
Yeah Vaan=wimp. he suffers the same problem Zidane does. Hes got not darkside too him at all. always trying to help people. Even tidus has a slight darker side too him (slight). All the cool main characters (cloud/squall) have alittle bloodlust, they wanna kill the guys reponsible for their situation. Not Vaan he hardly says anything. Generally its not fun too play as a do-gooder.

yea i agree. he doesnt get angry. he is just not agressive enough, if he were more agressive he would be less of a wimp.
but when he is all angry at basch thats more manly of him
