Upgrading System?

So far we (or at least I :P) have seen the battle system and the on map gameplay.

But for a long time I was wondering: "What the upgrading system is like?"

Each time a new main FF is released, it offers a unique upgrading system which different from the previous ones. In FFVII we had the materia system, in FFVIII junction system, FFX sphere grid and etc.

So what is this time? Does somebody knows?
If it wasn't revealed yet (which I believe), then what upgrading system would you like you have in this game?

As for me, I hope it'll be similar to the materia system. The game reminds a lot of FFVII, so it may be something similar. I want a system in which you can level up your magics (like it was in FFII and FFVII) and upgrade them.
I believe it adds more depth to the customizing of each character and it is overall cool. As for upgrading characters' parameters, I think it will be good to have the ability to easily choose what type you want you character to be (mage/warrior and etc). Or on the other hand, to have the classes of each character defined from the very beginning and their parameters are growing according to the class as they level up.

It's probably still being coded. They probably won't release any information until they finish it up to a fair degree...right? This is the first time I've actually followed a game during its development, so I'm not sure exactly what it's been like in the past.

As for what the system is going to be like, I'm actually hoping more for something like the Licence Board or Sphere Grid systems, though just for learning basic abilities. I agree that it would be really cool to literally have to work at making your magic and abilities more powerful. I doubt, however, that there's going to be a massive amount of customization abilities--not much can be said at this point, but I doubt we could turn Snow into a dedicated magic-user, or Oerba into a front-line melee fighter.

But, then again, who knows. Right?

I wonder how much customization it will actually offer (most of the ff's offer a lot) but you never know. Could they be making it similar to a past FF? or just like the other ones it's going to be a new one. Lots of questions.

Tbh, I have no idea on this. I don't like to go around saying that since it makes me sound clueless, but I really don't, they could go any way with it.

They could have it similar to something from one of the past Final Fantasy games, or have something quite fresh and new, which they've done from VII and up from my experience (never played VI).

That being said, it may well be something unlike the games in the past, perhaps more complicated like the battle system, and if that is the case, who knows what it would be like, it is hard to tell...

If someone made a guess at what it will be like, and it is quite accurate, I'd say that'd be a pretty lucky guess. :monster:

I'm not too sure on this either. I'm thinking it will go back to FFIX's idea of using equipment and weapons to level up your abilities and all. It's just an idea or a hunch I have so I'm not throwing out anything I want to claim as facts.

I would like to see something along those lines, but I'm hoping that they don't make certain equipment "missable" to where if you forget to get it at one point in the game, you can't go back and get it later. Thus, making you miss out on a certain skill or ability.

I'm not all that sure either. Square Enix tends to be full of surprises (good and bad). Maybe they'll mix it around or try to go old school (doubt it). I'll be happy as long as the system isn't too confusing to work with.

They will add something unique I'm sure, but then again they might just throw in levels again when you just fight to gain experience.
But being FF I think something unique will be thought up that we are just blown away by (sphere grid!!). Although, I hope each character is unique, in FF 12 and FF 10 the characters can end up being exactly the same if you cover the entire board or grid.

Hey, maybe if we're lucky we'll get another totally awesome Dress System so our characters can play dress up to gain abilities.
