Ultimate FFVI Teams?

This forum is very empty...I remember seeing a lot of threads here, but now I can't find them...?

Anyway, what is your favorite, ultimate FFVI team? Please elaborate your post, nothing like this please:
Edgar, Celes, Locke, Setzer and Sabin
Give reasons and stuff. :x3:

------>

My ultimate team is built on four different specialties. Magic, strength, agility and S&M (Strength&Magic).

My magic support is Celes. Yes, Terra is a lot stronger in magic, but for magical prowess, I use Celes. Ice, Holy, Ultima...things like that. She's mostly my healer or the person I use to suck up negative magic I don't want. She provides a defense against magics that would cause major amounts of damage.

When using Celes, I equip her up to fit a defense queen; nothing gets pass her shields.

As for my Agility, I use Locke. If you train him right, he becomes very fast and very strong. I use him for stealing things, stunning enemies with his weapons and summoning the Espers that will help me most. He'll be secondary backup for items and such.

For strength, I use Edgar. His tool sets dominate his enemies and are very, very, very helpful. A lot of people think they aren't, but that's because they don't know how to utilize its potential. :D
I equip Edgar with his best weapons and for his relics, I use Genji and Hyper Wrist. With that and the proper armor/shields, he is very power and nearly unstoppable, especially against critical like attacks.

For S&M, I use Terra. I equip her with her last, best weapon, the finest armor (Cursed Shield uncursed) and the best armor you can find. For relics, I give her Soul of Thamamsa and the Amulet, which lowers the amount of MP to use spells with.

I train her massively with the strongest based Espers -- Bahamut and Alexander and so on -- at a low level. With the above equipment, I can have her so where she can't be harmed at all by strength of magic. It takes away O on her or heals her, which is freakin' awesome.

I also removed all of her equipment and found out she still can't be harmed by elements of strength. I don't know what I did to make it permanent, but its awesome! :x3:

For my Ultimate team, I keep them as low of a level as I can until after I get more than 4/5 Espers (which is around World of Ruin) and then I start to train them in the area around South Figaro where the battles won't give you EXP but just the points to learn magic and increase character states.

That is the key to the ultimate team, unless you cheat with Gameshark or something >.>

I'm sorry if this thread were already created...I seriously only see 2 threads here lol

Anyway...what are your teams? :busta:

Discuss certain team formations, character abilities, advantages, disadvantages and so on.

Prolly Locke/Edgar/Celes/Terra. Locke and Edgar are best because they can equip regular swords, and have good strength and speed - get both of the ultima weapons on one of them, train with bahamut, diabolos, and give good armor. Easily gives you 9999 max hp, very good defense, and with genji glove/master scroll, consistent 79,992 damage/attack, which is the max possible in one attack.

Terra and Celes can be mostly magic - I try to get their health to 9999, but MP/magic are higher priorities. If possible, train them one or two at a time so that there'll always be the needed espers open for switching. Also, I think you can still get maqgic AP at level 99, so I just try for 99 and if I miss any spells, I can go back and get 'em.

Same as my Ultimate team :D

May I ask if you had first gone through other possible arrangements?

Terra, Locke, Setzer, Celes were my 4

Terra for quick/triple-Ultima (after insane levelling up while having magic+ bonus, also 1mp cost), Locke for Valiant Knife + 4x attack (again after levelling up while having strength+ bonus), Celes with Ultima Weapon + that multi-Jump thingy (after getting her HP to 9999 thanks to Bahamut) and Setzer as my leader so that my party looks awesome even when walking through town. Setzer is just too awesome visually.

I used Sabin before the D-pad on my SNES controller screwed up, but as long as I have Locke and Terra I didn't need any others.

Locke, Terra, Sabin/Edgar, Gogo/Cyan for me.

Terra for her impressive magic healing skills
Locke for stealing the rarer items
Sabin for Blitz techniques ofcourse, high damage taker, and I just like him as a character :P
If not Sabin then Edgar for tools, insanely useful in the early parts of the game and still useful later on due to overuse and high level (for me anyway)
Gogo for the obvious reason of being able to mimic + I also like him as a character
If no Gogo :-)D) then Cyan for useful sword techniques and I find him to be the best in the arena.

Ultimate Team: Setzer, Sabin, Edgar, Celes :x3:

I know I'm a little crazy/biased because I always leave my favorite characters in the party in any game whether they're useful or not, but this party is quite an exception. Obviously the (unbelievably fantastic :awesome:) esper/magic system is set up to facilitate the development of any VI character into a pretty decent mage, so from my experience anyway you can use pretty much anyone for magic and have it work well. However, there are other reasons why I like using these particular characters in battles:

Setzer- He seems to be a very well-rounded character--good attack power, good speed, decent HP, and I love watching him use Cards in one hand and Darts in the other :D Plus one of his weapons (either Trump or Doom Darts, I can't remember) often slaps the enemy with an nice big X and dispatches them, which is incredibly useful :8F: He's my favorite character anyway so it would hard to leave him out, but this just makes it even nicer to have him ^_^

Sabin- Blitzes :mokken: Whether it's Bum Rushes, Auras, or simple Pummels, he has freaking phenomenal strength, and from what I recall generally high HP as well :hmmm: He's a must if you want to go through the game kicking ass, the final stages especially.

Edgar- His tools are awesome :yay: I love his Drill and Chainsaw attacks, and I've also found that Flash is particularly effective against mechanical enemies, such as the types found in the Vector Magitek Factory :griin: He's got generally good stats too, from what I've found.

Celes- Her Runic function is incredibly useful :phew: Not only does it deflect magic attacks, but I love that it replenishes MP at the same time. I can't think of a better command for countering magic than that in all of FF-it's better than Wall, Osmose, you name it. Plus like Edgar, she gets to use a wide array of cool swords :D

Terra,Celes,Sabin & Shadow

Ultimate FFVI Team (not only based on fighting but personality too)

Why?

Terra- I mostly used for the magic attacks as well as healing
Sabin- Attacks are just too powerful...........I really do think although his personality might not be great, his attacks are nothing compared to the other characters in the game..........
Celes- Her unique runic ability is really the key to winning some battles....and she is used for healing.
Shadow-Well,in combat it depends on what you want to throw away with him his attacks may not be his highest but his throw option is good. his personality is great as he is a real cool guy and one of those characters you could ask a lot of questions about........if you get me?.........and also you can't forget about his dog, sometimes in battle he is a life-saver.......and takes a big chunk of HP from the enemy.

It seems a lot of people used Terra as a magic user when she is great in bother areas. :d

Celes- Her Runic function is incredibly useful

Her skill is very useful, especially if you want to battle Kefka at a low level. With that skill, its very easy. Well...easier than going against him without a person to defend against magic lol

I meet a lot of people saying Celes' special ability is useless. That sounds absurd :C

I always use a team of Celes, Locke, Mog and Terra. I mainly use them because I prefer their characters, but I think they're a very effective team anyway.

Celes - She's a magical and physical tank. On my last playthrough she has more magic than Terra, stupidly high HP and MP, and is basically a one-woman army. Runic is such a brilliant ability too, Celes is a highly useful character.

Locke - Meat shield / Tank. Plus, he's super speedy. I love that Locke has a load of HP and Strength, but is also one of the fastest characters in the game. Plus, I have to have Celes and Locke in the same party. xD

Terra - She's basically Celes version 2, but she's more proficient with magic than with physical attacks. Although on my save, my Celes has more magic than Terra, since I spent more time training Celes, Terra is still a really powerful character, and her special ability just enhances her magical capabilities.

Mog - In the World Of Balance, Mog is godly - his dances are ridiculously powerful, especially if they hit - the water dances in particular are devastating. In the World Of Ruin, he loses some of his usefullness, but he's an amazing tank. Equip him with the Snow Scarf, I think that's what it is anyway, and he becomes damn-near invincible. Plus, it's always fun having a moogle in your party!

:wtf: Poor Locke. :gonk:

I love Mog, he's so effective! :x3:

Have you've ever tried other teams? The crazy team I could think of was this:

Umaro
Setzer
Sabin
Mog.

Sabin was of course, the second best psychical fighter, next to Umaro. That thing is a beast!

Mog was great because his dances, plus, he looked cute doing them. :busta:

Setzer was pretty good with the cards thing. I didn't really find the cards thing useful, but he is still a good character, like the rest. :D

Honestly i think SE should make another character like celes.........for some reason people just forget about these characters........ from these ff's (I-VI) people talk more about characters from VII-XIII.........FFVI had a 14 characters that is obviosly the highest of any Final Fantasy. This makes the story even better getting to know each character's life and their abilities.

Altogether i think the best characters are:

Terra
Celes
Shadow
Locke
Sabin
Edgar
Gogo
Setzer

Choosing 4 characters out of 14 is incredibly hard...........

I'd like to say JUST Terra, I don't really need anyone else, she blocks and/or absorbs every magic and physical damage dealt to her but you asked for an elaborate post so here goes.

----

Firstly I cannot imagine playing this game without Terra in my party, she is not only the strongest I have physically but magically also, and this is without her Morph. And she can bring back any Ally instantly should they be KO'd. Very Useful if you ask me.

Edgar, he is probably my second power house right next to Terra, I always find his tools very useful, especially Chainsaw, His magic may not be all that great but gotta love how powerful those special tools are :busta:

Setzer, what can I say I trained him on purpose to be the best purely because I love him so much, and if you're good with the slots he proves the utmost worthwhile, not to mention should his magic be focused on he can become as good as Celes.

Sometimes, Locke not all the time though, I'd have to agree with .Mog and say meat shield, Locke isn't very strong, and his magic always takes way too long to use and when he finally uses it its weak :gasp: Lock is a detractor for the enemies to me.

Okay, my team would include:

Locke: Valiant knife combined with Master's Scroll makes for high damage that ignores defence. Equips many noteworthy weapons and can Steal from bosses. Force Armor and Shields make it easy to remain alive in the front row.

Terra: Very high magic damage combined with good weapon and armor selection. The Minerva Bustier is very good in the optional boss battes, as is the option of equiping the Illumina.

Mog: Combing the Dragoon Boots and Dragon Horn relics you have comboing physical damage that doesn't require Master's Scroll. Equiping the Snow Scarf is always good, too. Has good enough magic. Also, enemies fear moogles and sometimes run away from them, like Kefka. :cookie2:

Shadow: Can consistently hit enemies' elemental weaknesses, ignores defence, can max both evasive stats with only one relic slot, provided he's given the Illumina and Merit Award. Has inate counterattack.

Hmm... I have a couple, though my best team is:

Celes: She's powerful in magic, and her Runic ability is nice to filter out the bad guy's magic. With the rest of my team, you'll see why I can spam her Runic ability.

Sabin: Blitzes FTW. Plus, I used him so much he has all the magic I can give him so far.

Cyan: Swd. Techs = <3. Plus, he's not half bad with magic either.

?Edgar?: Sometimes I switch out Cyan and Edgar. Edgar can use his tools without that waiting period Cyan needs for Swd. Techs, but Cyan still deals more damage, specially with Retort.

?Shadow?: When it comes down to it, I switch out Edgar/Cyan for Shadow as well. He's powerful, he gets rid of my old equipment in return for damage, and he's not half bad with magic either. Plus, Interceptor = <3. That dog is the true definition of bad-ass in that game.

Mog: Mog = <3 He's funny as a character (insulting Ramuh; LOL!), his theme music is upbeat and fun to listen to, and his dances are insanely powerful. I don't give him much magic, as I rely more on his dances for healing, damage, etc.

Terra, Edgar/Sabin, Shadow, Gogo.
I almost always go on the offense. I have Terra for magic, Edgar/Sabin for offence, Shadow for speed/more offense (XD) and Gogo for Mimicing.
The most useless party in my opinion is:
Relm,
Setzer,
Gau,
and Mog. There not completely useless, just not well together.

Has anyone tried this team before:

Celes
Shadow
Setzer
Gau

Gau and Shadow make a great difference to any team, if you master Gau, that is. His abilities rock, if you concentrate on gaining all his abilities, he's really, really good!

Shadow is really good before of his Dog and his throw command, very effective for trying to train a weaker team. Well, of course you'd have to buy stuff to throw lol

Celes is a great sword and magic user, so she could either fight or heal. Setzer...well, I'll be honest, I never get his card thingy to work lol

Gau has one of the best average base stats in the game, up there with Shadow (discounting Umaro). He has really good magic stats and speed, so I just gave him good magic and used him as a mage. I don't like his ability because it's so unpredictable (and sometimes annoying because he uses crap stat magic), but I did use him quite a lot.

But as a mage Relm is the best one. Her magic stat is actually the highest of all the characters. Shame that she can't equip very good armour and weapons though...

For Shadow, I always just kept throwing that Imp lance thing, which got dropped by one of the dinosaur monsters near Narche (I always level up there at the end). Did around 6000 damage each time I think.

Actually, Relm does equip good stuff. But remember that she is a mage.

Cat-ear Hood: Best helmet in the game. High defensive stats, boosts Magic by 4, Resists Fire, Ice, Lightning, Earth, Wind and Holy, and doubles gil recieved after battle.

Behemoth Suit: high defensive stats; +6 in all atributes.

Magus Rod: Magic +7, if I'm not mistaken.

Memento Ring: Blocks instant Death stati, like Death and Petrification.

@Ichiro:

To fix the Relm armor problem, why don't you use the Relic (Merit Award) that allows the that person to equip any weapon or armor? If you are a male with the Merit Award, you can't equip female armor and weapons of course, or for people who can't use Atma Weapon at first, can't equip it, because obviously, its a special weapon designs for a select few :P

Well, either way, here's a little description of the relic:
Allows the wearer to equip almost any piece of equipment. These do not include female-only equipment, animal hides, the Atma Weapon and the Bone Club.

I always thought it was a bit of a waste of a character space and accessory space. We've got Terra, Celes, Locke, Edgar etc who can already equip really good weapon, armours; why make another character 'catch up' to them by equipping them merit award? you can easily use that accessory slot to maybe halve your mp cost, improve defence, auto-haste etc etc etc.

I would do it if the character was someone I liked (i.e. if it was Terra, I would probably end putting her in the party even if it meant using Merit Award), I just don't like Relm  I always put Strago, Gau and Gogo ahead of her due either blue magic or better overall stats.

@Discordius, you're right about Relm's equipment not being all that bad. For me though, her weapons aren't good enough even if they give bonus to magic. It wasn't necessary after a while (i.e. you level up enough by the time you get them so that your magic stat does huge damage anyway), so I'd much rather have something that does good physical damage.
