Really, this thread doesn't so much come from intense hate of Tifa, as it does from intense hate of her being considered the greatest thing to happen to FF. I'm willing and quite able to admit that my points are the most weighty, but I did label this as a rant, and not as some deep look at her character.


I think that I can settle that. It was supposed "my points aren't the most wieghty", not are.

Well, damn. I'm truly sorry, my good man.

That's okay, everyone gets madly angry sometimes.

Oh, and thread title was a refrence to the Rinoa Rant topic over at FF8 board. I mentioned that this was a sort of reponse to it.

The main reason that I dislike the use of the size of Tifa's chest is that it was unneccessary to make it that big. Other characters chests weren't that large, like Aerith or Yuffie. It was possible to make her have big boobs, but not so large that they were distracting.

From a guys perspective, at first I played this game unaware of any of the features. I had grown up with 8 bit games on Nintendo for god sakes.. so when I first played this game, getting into all the characters was a damn pleasure for me.

At first I was a little wavered by biasness, and yes of course Tifa had more of the "hot" features I've seen, but I was 13. When I contrasted her to other characters though, she was not as cliche as some might think.

I mean she really was a self thinking individual and a motherly figure at that. She cared much more than any character, and some called her a little emo, but then they didn't understand the depth of what passion truly was in this girl.

It's a damn shame when people take away from the beauty of her passionate ways by calling her callous names I've heard before. Its a bitter old lady/man way of thinking. It's cheap to call her a whore, its cheap to call her a hussy, yea she wears short shorts and has bigger assets so to speak.. but give her more of a look over and she has the all around package as far as what type of person she is.

Now this is from a guys stand point, and yes she is just a pixelated character. But damn they made her gorgeous inside and out. Its games like this where you think women will pick up on cues (not necessarily the outer beauty).

1. Tifa isn't the type of female character that I think is good. I find her to be pushy and overbearing. While this could just be an assumption I make of tough women in general. I like understanding people who like to solve things with words and not their fists.

To be completely honest, than I think you're playing the wrong games. =/ I mean... All the girls I know in the FF series are fighters, some are more reasonable, but I can't imagine having them going.

Tifa: Excuse me, enemy-sir. That was quite rude of you, if you will not stop it will have to lead to much more violent ways to have this matter solved.

Enemy: Well, I'm sorry, why don't we all just get along, and have you not punch the shit out of me, seeing I'm only a life threatning enemy to you and all of your friends, eh?

2. Okay, maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the boobs, but I have to point out, get it point, anyway that they are there, and are part of her character. Of course, it's slightly immature to mention them, but I think it's even more immature to pretend they don't exist.

To be honest, I think you're messing yourself up here.

There's a difference between knowing they're there.
Being realistic, and knowing it's not the girl's fault she was shaped that way.

And between just saying 'Oh she has large breasts, she's such a slut.' or something along the lines. 'This girl has a big chest, it's probably what she's all about.'

3. Tifa could've told Cloud about his past, and it could've saved everyone alot of trouble. This is my largest problem with her. Sure the past is hard, and it's never easy to face it, but at some point you have to, and if she had done it earlier, well alot of bad things wouldn't have happened. To me, this makes her toughness nothing then face deep, as she wasn't really willing to face anything.

She could've, yes. But I don't blame the girl for not doing so. Cloud being mentally mind-fucked as he comes over in the first stages, until he wakes up a bit, and starts to actually 'give-a-fuck', I don't blame her at all for being hesitant to tell him.

To me it seems you're just trying to put her in your 'ideal woman' frame... I don't mean to be rude with saying that.

Some girls just can't do this. For example, Tifa, and both Cloud needed some time. Right moments, for the puzzle pieces to be placed, and the whole image to be put back together.

It's better to be carefull with what you do, then to run into it recklessly and make things worse.

I think she did the right thing.

=/ But she's neither of them. If all women in the word had the same size of breasts, that'd be rather weird, in my opinion. 'For them to be unneededly big', isn't Tifa's fault. As stated in a comment before by Dragon Mage I think, she's a pixeled character, she's created.

Tifa is my favourite character. But this isn't my opinion just because she is.

I think I'm capable of putting the favourite part aside and just looking at her like the character she is.

Just my humble opinion.

I'm not blaming Tifa, I'm blaming whoever desinged her. You're right, it's not her fault. It's just, to me, she represents that figure that is stacked with all the cliche "hot" factors. Boobs? Check. Short shorts? Check. But I have to say, this isn't really my largest problem with her. I love Rikku to death, and she wore much less. It was just a comment I thought I'd make, instead of pretending that it didn't matter.

I was really little when I first played this game, so her boobs weren't the first thing that I noticed. I guess I felt, that she wasn't as developed as the rest of the characters that I do like, like Aerith. I felt like her story sort of paled in comparison. There are two reasons that I mentioned the boobs.
1. They're universally talked about.
2. I thought that someone would "point" it out to me. Obviously I was mistaken.

In the end, as I said before, my biggest reason for disliking Tifa, is because she is compared to every other FF female character, and for some reason, it seems like she always wins. I really want to understand why.

Ah! Thank goodness. I'm glad you understand. Accidents are sometimes just that. And if you did say something about the Rinoa thread, I know for certain I didn't see it. Oh well. Life goes on.

As to your question about why Tifa always seems to 'win' when compared with other FF female leads, I think the answer is pretty clear.

Tifa is the only female lead character that really kicks ass -- in the most literal sense. Other female chars use weapons, but Tifa is the first and so far only karateka in the games. For some reason this gives her a mysterious aura of extra 'badass,' the idea being, I think, that if someone can jump and move like that, and dish out so much damage fighting hand-to-hand (and being a GURL derp derp derp) then she must be an uber badass. Thus, no matter what you throw at her, Tifa shall overcome.

Honestly, I think it's a stupid way to look at things, but drooling fans will be drooling fans. It's the same as fanboys fighting over who's better, Master Chief or Samus.

Ridiculous, really. But there you have it.

I don't see this post necessary. Tifa was a mother and a hand-to-hand fighter. She had an athletic build because of that, and her outfit was a fighter's outfit imho. Shorts and a shirt with low top shoes? In all reality, Nina Williams might be one smoking hot lady, but when she fights, you know she sweats her ass off in that ridiculous sneaking suit. If I were a fighter, I'd wear shorts and a t-shirt too. I wouldn't want to be sweaty and all icked-out from the start of a journey to the end of it, smelling like the ass I kick.

In the sad, possible reality that it is NOT a joke (and what a dim, mournful reality that is) I shall endeavor to educate you. Tifa is NOT Marlene's mother. NOT. Tifa has never ever been with child, at least as far as we know, which is a considerable amount.

I must now crawl in some dark corner and weep for the dismal fate of humanity and intellectualism.

P.S. Oh, and people that complain about boobs would be the ones that value realism. Ninja Gaiden 2? Know of it? Know of that ridculously scantily clad female ninja? Yeah. That tends to piss me off. No woman would ever go into combat with her triple D's hanging out. It's infuriating!!!!

As someone already mentioned, Tifa isn't Marlene's mother, so it's not explained that way, although... I could see that scene in my head. That is, the one where they ask Tifa about how she had Marlene, and she hits them across the face. No, her boobs are just naturally large.

To the question, how about an educated person who is sick to death of having giant boobs tossed at them in various media. It's not entertaining, it's just sick.

Is it really now? I was under the impression that Hentai-seeking fanboys would go for games that *actually" showed boobs. If it was me I would. However, I disagree with you in a serious way as well. I was like eight when I fist played FF, and I was not, as you term it, a hentai-seeking fanboy. I hadn't even went through puberty yet. Girls still had cooties.

I don't see how the boob thing is such a problem. This whole boob topic will get whored out, lose it's meaning, while it's just a bunch of fat combined with muscles. Get over it. It's what a girl has. Geez.

Far as her outfit goes. I don't see how it makes sense to judge someone on that. Of course, a lot of people will judge on first sight. But I can't see how you can "compare" her to a character you like, she's gonna be different. Everyone's different.

I didn't see anything wrong with her personality. She had things to deal with, and did it her way.
