Alright, in case you didn't know, the Eagles/Bengals game yesterday ended in a tie. 13-13. So why do I bring it up? Because Donovan McNabb is catching all kinds of shit because he didn't realize it was a rule in the NFL. I think it's bullshit to be honest. Unless you're some stat-hording junkie like Tony Reali, it's a rule that's pretty easily forgotten.

Now in classic Reali fashion, here are some interesting stats that might clear McNabb of his after-game oops. It's the first case of a game ending in a tie since the Falcons/Steelers game six years ago. McNabb joined the NFL in 1999. The last time the Eagles had a tie game was in 97. And there have only been a total of 17 ties in NFL history.

I heard that this game was supposedly dismal, it must take two really bad offenses to go 15 minutes of overtime without either scoring even a field goal! I think it writes off Philadelphia's playoff hopes anyway.

See, we're used to draws playing football here in Europe XD

What's the full story on McNabb?

Ha, I didn't even know there were tie games in the NFL. I'm used to the college style overtime where they just keep going 'til somebody wins. xD

In his defense, maybe he doesn't watch the media as we do as every-day fans. If i was a player, I would just focus on the team i was on and maybe stats and standings in the league. The less a player focuses on how media portrays things and blows things out of proportion, the better.

However, that year that the Steelers and the Falcolns tied, the Eagles played one of those teams later on in the year. I mean, I can't believe McNabb would have played against one of those teams and not known they had a tie logged onto their Win-Loss record.

Overall, it's kind of a pointless subject and controversy to argue, but it is kind of hard to believe that he didn't know it when he's been in the league that long. Not ragging on him, it's just kinda weird.

To be honest, I hate how the NFL sets up there overtime. It gives an unfair advantage to the team that wins the coin toss. I think that each team should have a shot at it getting points.

Until this game i didn't know that football had ties either. I've been following football for a few years and haven't noticed it til now. I don't think there should be a tie in the NFL if anything send them into another overtime.

Ties do only seem to crop up about every 5-6 years though, so it's not like it happens very often.

I do agree about the coin toss thing though, it gives an unfair advantage. If a team wins the toss and scores on its first play, the opposing team should be given a chance to try and score themselves before declaring the game over. Surely this would work better.

Ya they could always just have them play til the full overtime is over. It would make it fair because then each team can touch the ball on offense at least once. But alot of people have made it clear they don't want this.

well actually, Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts said he like the system kept the same way, same with John Madden. He says that both teams do have a chance to get the ball, you just gotta stop the team on defense if you lose the toss. Now i disagree with him. I think each team should have a chance on offense. I read that Tony Dungy said this, and after the Colts vs. Chargers game Madden said this.

Huh interesting. I actually have a lot of respect for them both. It's interesting that they'd argue that, especially seeing that both have probably seen tons of games that ended "unfairly" due to this rule.

Ya Peyton on the other hand was against it. He said before the game that he thinks both teams should have the ball atleast once.

It's funny though.. wonder if Tony changed his mind after losing against the chargers in overtime, not even having a chance to touch the ball.

Phili is definitely not out of it. With players like Dawkins (Favorite FS of all time) Westbrook, and Mcnabb, you can never count them out in any situation. these players are all very explosive and can change the tempo whether it be in a game or a battle for a playoff spot. It's a tight race in the NFC East, aside from New York.

I wrote that ages ago, when it did look like Philadelphia had little chance of making the playoffs (failing to beat Cincinnati looked to have finished them off and they were in a pretty strong division) - you can't blame me for writing that at the time! I do agree now they're on a roll and they could beat New York, but I think New York might edge it.

Well the Eagles won! I'm happy! So did the Cardinals I'm happy about that one too. The ravens/titans game I didn't really care, but the Chargers lost... that pretty much blows....

I'm not a big Eagles fan but I am extremely happy they beat the Giants. I hate the Giants. As for the Chargers/Steelers game... I'm a huge Steelers fan but I definitely respect the Chargers. They're Busta's favorite team so I've always cheered them on when it didn't conflict with the Steelers. It was a good game but I"m happy my boys in black and gold pulled through. It will be weird though since the Cardinals and Eagles were never considered to be real threats in this year's playoffs. Ravens at Steelers will be a tough fight but I think whoever wins that game is going to take it all.

Don't underestimate the Wild Card teams! Boy did i not see this coming. To start off with, the Colts go win there last 9 games and then play an 8-8 team that barley made the playoffs and then lost was kinda disappointing to me. All the other first round games weren't big shockers though. Now when it came to the Giants/Eagles i was shocked to see that the defending champs couldn't beat the team that looked terrible in most of the regular season, well at least the start anyways. Some controversy about pulling McNabb and all that jazz. Another surprising loss was the Titans losing. #1 seed team that went 10-0 to start the season and then lose in the first game of the post season. Was kinda upsetting. Ravens D was just too good for them i guess. Then out of no where the Cardinals pull off a huge win against the Panthers. I don't really follow either team, though i haven't heard much from the Cardinals till now. I was happy to see that not all the Wild Card teams won this weekend.. Steelers pulled off a big win against the Chargers who had a ton of Momentum going into the the playoffs. Good games though and i can't wait to see the Finals.

The Cardinals have been absolutely ridiculous in the playoffs. They are the very last in running in the NFL and that's how they beat the Falcons in round 1. Then they face the Panthers and no one picked them to win, but they ended up creaming Carolina. I never would have guessed it.

As for the Ravens/Titans game, I'd love to see the stats for how many times the Titans made it into the red zone. It seemed like the Titans would just waltz through the Raven's defense unhindered until they reached the 35 yard line... and then they'd self destruct. I saw them throw picks, miss field goals, fuck up punts... I have no clue what they were doing but the Ravens only won because of their red zone defense or the lack of Titans red zone offense. It was weird shit.

The Titans and Carolina both shot themsleves in the foot with turnovers, which is often key in the playoffs. New York's offense was just all at sea yesterday, it was the 'bad' Eli Manning out there and they couldn't capitalise at all on the opportunities they were given.

As for who will next week - god knows anymore! Pittsburgh v Baltimore should be a really bruising encounter though. And I dare not write off Arizona any longer.
