Okay. Here is a widely accepted theory and one of the most logical around;

Basically Tidus was a representation of Shuyin.
After the real Zanarkand was destroyed the fayth dreamt a representation of Zanarkand, so basically the appearance of the people in the dream Zanarkand were based on the real Zanarkand. Tidus was modelled after Shuyin, and thats the reason why they look the same.
Tidus wasnt a real person at all, just solely based on a person who had lived in the real Zanarkand.

But if that is true and Tidus was not real, how come when he was in the farplane is mother appeared? Was it Shuyin's mother or what? Or is it just the pyreflies responding to his thoughts? even so, she would of had to of existed.
 
And, if he doesn't exist, how was he able to kiss Yuna? that'd be impossible if he didn't exist.

So, if he isn't real, how can he have a mother to call in the farplane?
 
God sake ... TIDUS IS NOT SHUYIN. They are two completely different people and Square-Enix would have explained that in the game if it was real. So no, they're not the same person.
 
I realli dont get where people are getting this claiming that tidus and shuyin are the same person. i know they aren't

It's because of those pyreflies (you know those things that wander arround a dead person). The pyreflies at the Farplane react with the memories of the person and thus creates a representation of the lost one in which the person mentioned before was thinking.

For Example: If Yuna thinks in her father, Braska, because of his death his is supposed to be in the Farplane. The pyreflies there react with Yuna's memories that she had of her father and created a representation of what it's supposed to be the spirit of her father, which is not in fact the real Braska.


Tidus has memories, right? He remembers her mother (presumed dead by he, but she does not exist so....she is dead anyway) and the pyreflies arround him reacted with his memories and thus created a representation of his mother. We must also remember that the appearance of every human being that "lived" on Dream Zanarkand was based on the memories of the Dream of the Faith. It's a fact that Tidus' mother's appearance was also based on those memories therfore the pyreflies were able to create some sort of "fake memory" that was able to show Tidus a image of his mother.
