on the glenn beck rally?

From articles on this subject alone, what can we say about Glenn Beck:

1. He supports "turning this country back to God", even though America was built on secularity and evangelicalism has yet to make one positive impact on the social development of this country.

2. He repeatedly references the so-called "I Had a Dream" speech even though he vocally opposes many of the economic principles King encouraged in that speech, such as employment assistance for the poor.

3. He claims that the rally was "non-partisan", though it was almost entirely populated by, featured speakers from, and was advertised on networks owned by conservative groups.

4. He makes a ludicrous attempt to equate the relation between between whites and Lincoln with that of blacks and King, even though Lincoln never fought or died specifically for the economic rights of white people. He doesn't consider the possibility of causing offense by using King's legacy for his own gain.

5. He invites Sarah Palin, who used to reign as the least reliable Republican political figure in the entire country, to spout out jingoistic nonsense about how the military and patriarchal motherhood are the only trustworthy pursuits in modern America. As if we were still in the 1950's or something.

6. His supporters are significantly composed of the white, aging, lunatic fringe of this country, who believe dressing up in Statue of Liberty costumes and reporting equally jingoistic nonsense is a proper way to respond to a supposedly "non-political" rally.

Conclusion: Glenn Beck is a moron, Sarah Palin is a moron, and anyone who believes this parade served a beneficial purpose needs a reality check. The world would be a better place if the Evangelical movement ceased to exist, and we can start by crushing the religious aspirations of their children in the hopes that they will eventually die out. End of story.

This country was founded on God, not just a one God just God.

The majority of the founding fathers were Deists. Not Christians.

Context. If I say "blah blah blah bad things blah, but I hope to God that never happens," that doesn't mean I'm praying/Christian/whatever.

He didn't join a church until late in his life. 1838. Jackson found no conflict between his religious views and his strong support for the institution of slavery, nor did he perceive any conflict with his support for the forcible relocation of Native Americans. Jackson believed that the Constitution required a strict separation of church and state.

In the New Testament there is internal evidence that parts of it have proceeded from an extraordinary man; and that other parts are of the fabric of very inferior minds. It is as easy to separate those parts, as to pick out diamonds from dunghills. "

The Pledge was written in 1892. "Under God" was added to the Pledge in 1954. Also, it was not added out of any sense of religious adherence. It was added as a direct argument against Communism, as Communism does not allow for religion of any kind.

But what was most sad about this whole thing, was that the President was just across the road and he couldn't come to a rally that was done so Veterans and Soldiers and their families could get money. Sure Obama knows about Beck's dislike for him, but this wasn't about Politics--it was for the brave soldiers, and Obama should have gone.

No, this was about Beck stroking his ego and proselytizing to his lackeys. This was about the soldiers like Charlie's Angels was about crime fighting.

No, that's opinion. Them raising $5 million for http://www.specialops.org/ proves what it was for. Not once, did Glenn speak badly about ANYONE, he did exactly what he intended. And that's why his haters are all pissy, now. Because he didn't insult Obama/Democrates/government or anything.

Charlie's Angels apprehended a few criminals as well. :wacky: I'm just saying the soldiers aspect was a b.s. smokescreen. He could have raised the money and donated it without the rally.

Cali said:
I mean, would people be saying it was a political ploy if Obama did this rally instead?

Yes.

Thank God. But it's still important to America.
May I ask why this is?

Also, to not make a spammy like post, I'll go on to say that I agree with Adamant. While I don't hate Glenn Beck, and at times, find myself to agree with (very rarely) a few of his views. Obviously the man is well educated, I still find him to be about 75% of a retard.

Sarah Palin on the other hand... She makes up at least 5 retards trapped in one body. :ffs:

I liked the fact that they raised a shit load of money for a good cause, but anyone with half a brain knows that wasn't there only intention. Dat publicity.

And of course Obama isn't going to show up, because he knows damned well what it is. Besides, I know I'm sure as shit not going to stand by a man that wants to see my head on a pike and act like we're all smiling sunshine and shitting rainbows.

At the end of the day, Beck and Palin just gave themselves an ego post, proved silly "points", and get to go back to calling people names on television like overgrown 3rd graders. Now Fawx News has something else to brag about.

Plus, this whole "give ourselves to God" thing needs to die. The last thing we need is to go back into the dark ages. :hmph:

This wasn't about politics? Could have fooled me... Good on them for raising money for a worthy cause, but you can't have Sarah Palin (a prominent republican and considered by many to be a potential future presidential candidate) speak in front of thousands of spectators about "restoring America" and claim to be completely non-partisan.

Beck's a fascist...people like that in the Republican party are more likely to bring the US down...make the US fall like ancient Rome fell.

shrugs..I expect that to happen someday.Hope I am not around when it does.

Well, Glenn Beck has the highest ratings of the programs in his time slot. Of course hardcore Democrats are going to be all over it and downplay it as much as they can, and sling some mud at Beck and Palin whenever they feel threatened. But I'd find it hard to believe that his ratings are high because Democrats are looking to find the cracks in what he's televising. Nope, most of those viewers are Republicans and/or are in agreement what he's televising. Obviously he's saying the right things.

Personally, I hate politicians. They are in a position to rip off others for their own gain. Most of them are in office to support their own and very few of them are there to support the people that put them there. I strongly believe that Sarah Palin is one of the few that is actually willing to help us. Yet, she gets a lot of hate, even from her own party. It's sad that a party is in disarray because they are jealous of what Palin can bring to the table.

Even though Palin gets very high ratings from me, I'll say that one thing I do disagree with is her strong hand for religion. I am not in favor of mixing church and state. What a religious figure says should never have a bearing on political action. Religion should remain a choice for an individual, not a mandate.

Beck's a fascist...people like that in the Republican party are more likely to bring the US down...make the US fall like ancient Rome fell.
This made me laugh. :lew: Congress has been Democratic majority since 2006. From 2006-2008, Bush was ripped by many for not doing well in running the country, when people forget that the Democratic Congress would shoot down any proposal he made. People also tend to forget that Congress approval rating was lower than Bush's at that time, you can thank the mostly Democratic supporting media for that. And the Democratic party runs the show now, and things have only gotten worse since 2008. And I know everyone still likes to blame Bush for this, but I think it's time people start admitting that they bought a lemon. So if anything, the Democratic party is more likely to bring down the US, like they are currently. That would be the more accurate statement.

Don't care if you laugh at what I say friend...

shrugs..
The laws responsible for the banking crisis were written by repubs and passed by them when they ran Congress...

So trying to put the problems the US is having on the dems isn't factual...

shrugs...

I don't know if I even care what happens to this country anymore..or this world anymore for that matter.

Like I said..I don't expect to be around when the collapse happens anyway.I don't expect anyone posting here will be here either...

shrugs...

"Around the Washington Monument, one of the anti-Beck protesters was holding a sign. Some of the pro-Beckers (I don't know what to call these folks) confronted the guy, telling him no signs were allowed (which wasn't true at all, it was merely Beck's suggestion, not a law) and trying to wrestle it from him. So, of course I pulled out my camera and started shooting. Some pro-Becker saw me, and ran up asking me "Who are you? Why are you taking pictures?" I reply "Because I can." and keep shooting more pictures. He asks me "Are you a journalist?" I tell him "I'm a taxpaying citizen taking photos. Would you please leave now?" He stomps off. This feels like a bad omen of things to come. It is."

"So, I'm waiting in one of the very long lines for the Port A Potties when this woman comes up to me and grabs my wrist. I'd dug up my old Obama "Yes We Did!" rubber band for the event, but didn't think anyone would notice it. This lady, apparently did, and asked me (nicely. At first.), "What's this all about?" I told her "This is all about me using the bathroom". She looked flustered, then asked me "Why are you here today?" I said "I'm here to take a leak." Now, I could tell she was getting agitated, and she proceeded to tell me about how Glenn Beck's event was all about redeeming Dr. King's dream, and bringing people together, how Beck's tears alone could cure juvenile diabetes, blah, blah, blah. This goes on for about a full minute, as she's apparently clueless that I'm paying her zero attention. The Port A Potty door finally opens. "I'm using the bathroom now, please don't follow me," I tell her, as I walk past. When I came out she was gone. Weird, weird exchange."

"As I was trying to leave, a bunch of people tried to squeeze through the crowd, coming from the opposite direction. I tried slipping past, and a guy coming toward me barked "Wait your turn!" Momentarily stunned, I got back at him the best way I knew how. As he pushed his way by, I slipped my hand into his bag and smoothly stole his mini "Don't Tread!" flag. It's sitting on my desk as I type this. See what happens when you invite black folks to your event?"

Bottom line, though, it's easy to be peaceful when you're surrounded by 100k sheeple who think exactly like you do.

100k sheeple are totally smoking Glenn Beck's sausage right now. :ffs: Are they really all that pathetic, to when they see a couple of people that may have opposing views that they feel it's necessary to verbally attack them and berate them with senseless questions?

Seriously, a man wearing a "yes we can" bracelet gets interrogated on the way to take a piss? And a man with a sign gets told he can't have a sign, and is berated for it.

Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin breed stupidity. I'm sure if they hooked up and had kids, they'd be super fucking retarded. I find it odd that anyone can listen to bullshit that spews out of their mouths.

And of course they didn't find any trash around the memorial, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin had to leave at some point, didn't they? :britt:

Well, it depends on what you're trying to advertise as "reality". Personally, I don't hate Beck, sure I find him pretty stupid at times, but I can't say I hate the man. I know Obama lied, because it's what every politician does. Sometimes they do it deliberately, sometimes they make promises they can't keep.

If Beck ran for president, he would do the same. There is no such thing as a perfect politician, or president.

(However, I do hate Palin. She's an idiot, and I'm never going to take it back. :griin:)

Oh, I dislike them all. I just see Beck as speaking for the right things. He might be a bit... over the top but that doesn't defeat the fact that what he discusses is very much true and holds a strong importance in our country's welfare.

100k sheeple are totally smoking Glenn Beck's sausage right now.

That's because conservatives are desperate to make their ridiculous party appeal to people again. Bush was an idiot, to a point where even some in his own party were feeling iffy about him.
Now Beck's trying to rekindle Bush's legacy and is attacking democrats while they fix all the republican-made errors that put the country in such a shitty state to begin with.
..And he said that anyone who doesn't have a job doesn't deserve to be American?? Yeah, so your'e a disgrace to the nation because the Republican Party fucked up your'e cahnces at getting a decent job for the time being..
So go ahead and be excited about his 'restoring honor' crap. You'll be listening to a man with no honor himself.

Honestly, I think this got far more attention than it deserved.

From both sides.

The lefties blew up as though it were all a
freakishly treasonous besmirching of King's speech and what he stood for, that it was a slap in the face to decency, etc.

Really, to quote Eugene Robinson:

Saturday night, when the event is done, the Lincoln Memorial will still be the place where King gave one of the most memorable speeches of the 20th century. People who came to the rally in search of answers will still be looking. And Glenn Beck will still be a legend in his own mind.

And by contrast, the Righties tried to make this out to be one of the most earthshaking events ever. It wasn't. It was well attended (more than initial predictions, less than any of the far right are claiming) but it wasn't much more than Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin opening their mouths as they always do. Just the setting was different.

In my opinion, both the Republicans and the Democrats are a bunch of stupid idiots -- to put it euphemistically. Their policies, which aren't doing anyone a favor, are smoke-screened by simulacra that deceive the people into thinking that "everything is under control" when in fact, nothing is under control.

So both sides are steadily -- yet (of course) unwittingly -- proving that all the models that they endeavor to cram down people's throats are failed models that stand solely for their own materialistic agendas.

It's time for the sheeple to wake up from their brainwashed state and start thinking -- thinking really hard about what might happen if this idiocy continues for the next couple of decades.

As for the U.S. being on a downward spiral. Kudos to non-linear dynamics!

*jumps in without looking*

The crisis we are in is not the fault of either side but BOTH. Bush started a descent that Obama has only continued. Neither sides other party members have stepped in to do anything. None of them are really trying to stop it.

This whole rally was just another piece in the shifting of our government. The Tea Party movement is heavily influenced by a woman whose intelligence about the government is about the same as Jessica Simpson's. You can say she's nice, and maybe she is, but she's not qualified to have any sort of political power at all.

The last thing I'll say is, even though I don't like her, I'd love Oprah to have a giant rally like this because I know as soon as she did, all the people here agreeing with Beck would be like "Why is she getting involved in politics? She's just a talk show host". Beck is just the same, and just as unqualified as she was to make political movements when she supported Obama.

Feel what you want to feel, but if we don't all come together and forget this two party system sometime soon, then the United States is going to be one long garbage dump for the world.

Exactly... it's like a dual-monarchy now. The Democrats and the Republicans are the only ones that are calling the shots. Those who follow either side are nothing more than demagogues in my opinion. People aren't thinking for themselves; they're allowing others (especially those with the advantage of forums) to do the thinking for them. And those who listen to their stupid bullshit are even more stupid! Consequently, this comes to show that America has been reduced to a state of general stupidity.

Both the right and left only care about one thing and one thing only: their respective party's agenda. So screw both Bush and Obama; screw the Republicans and the Democrats. People must begin to think for themselves and not forget their true, innate human values and the world at large.

And of course this is all beside the point because one man restoring a democracy created by many doesn't make sense at all. Or will Sarah Palin be aiding in that too?

All politicians seem to want to do anymore is divide the entire nation into separate sects when they should in fact be attempting to unite us. They want us all at war with each other, and we go along with it because we're like children.

That should happen no more. It's time for the governing of our government to be put back into the hands of the people and not men who make back room deals out of sight and lie straight to our faces. Or women either, for that matter.

The crisis we are in is not the fault of either side but BOTH. Bush started a descent that Obama has only continued.

Republicans disband every little incy wincy thing that is idealized by anyone outside their party. Here's a prime example:
Democrats came up with a healthcare plan> not the best> has many flaws> but at least they DID SOMETHING. Conservatives shunned the idea not bc they thought it unnecessary, but bc they don't believe in gov't standards.

With that kind of opponent, it's hard for democrats to move quickly. It's amazing that Obama has done as much as has with the little time he's been in office.
They're is no such thing as a perfect gov't. Don't hate democrats for making life more comfortable for the oppressed_

And just for the record, America can only be fixed through one or the other. This country is not going to re-invent itself. The world will end before that happens//
