The year 0000...?

If they're going to stick that in it should for one, be referenced more in the game since to my knowledge, nobody important ever says anything about it.

In fact... Remember the Sephy scene in Shinra Mansion basement? Year xxxx? considering Sephy is what? 30/40? and Jenova was found before his birth... It'd probably help if they specified years so we had a better understanding of the timeline pre-0000 :hmph:
Exactly.

The "timeline" they shoved out to the fans has way too many unanswered questions and does not plug in with the original story... at all.

I think the XXXX was just a poor excuse to not make things add up imo :sad3: it's not hard to put in dates to fit everything in fine, they managed with FF8, FF10 and FF12 so I don't know what was so hard about 50+ years to fit into the timeline :hmph:

So what you're saying is that the years for VII's world had only been counted for 7 years? 0000 being the beginning of their known time, and 0007 being the time the world is up to? That right? 8(

So, 0000 is the creation time of the planet? Wait-- so the planets only 7 years old? Talk about creationism.

You are misunderstanding me. Deliberately, I feel, given I very specifically give state the equivalence in their calendar of Year 0007 to our year 2007.

Our world has switched Calendar systems many a time before, Cali. 0000 isn't the start of all time, it's the start of a new calendar era. It's preceded by the last moment of the year 1999. It's their equivalent of our year 2000. The difference is that instead of going to 2000s, they switched up the era and began renumbering from 0.

Beauty Queen Etna, the scene with Sephiroth in the ShinRa basement could actually refer to Redacted info. We know, more or less, when Sephy is born.

[ Starting approx. 20 years before CC ]

· Genesis is born via Jenova Project G.

· Angeal is born via Jenova Project G.

· Sephiroth is born via Jenova Project S.

The era system DOES lay out the last 50 years of backstory.
It begins in [ μ ] – εуλ 1959 and (currently) ends in [ ν ] – εуλ 0010

Note the μ and the ν. Those are era 'names', like BC and AD.

Cali, you keep saying it has unanswered questions and does not plug in with the story. You KEEP FAILING TO SUBSTANTIATE THIS.

Ry, you seem to "KEEP FAILING" to not understand this very simple thing.

What came before 0000? -0000? Or is "0000" supposed to literally be the years 2000s? If so, why didn't SE just say; "2007?"

That hard to do, yeah? 8(

What came before 0000 was 1999. Just like the 50th year of Amenhotep came before the 1st year of TheNextGuyinline.

0000 is the start of a new chronological era. It is effectively the equivalent to our year 2000, if we had decided on that year, to begin an ALY2KB (After Lack of Y2K Bug) era.

Japan itself uses a similar system, 'officially' recording the year according the the reign of the current emperor. You have heard of the Heisei era, yes?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_era_name

It's much simpler than you're making it out to be.

Also, please, if you wish to refer to me by a diminutive, use Ryu, which is actually the given name of this pseudonym.

I like using Ry. :ryan:

Oh, so the year 0000 is equivalent to our year 2000, then? So it's easier to just say 2007 because, usually, when counting upward, after 1999 comes 2000. :ryan:

Hence my drawing attention to the different Eras. μ and v in this case demarcate different eras, just like Showa 17 and Heisei 12 are different eras, with Heisei 12 coming after Showa 17.
It's an arbitrary year system, I'm not denying that. But it's not wholly nonsensical or arbitrary, certainly no more than a number of real world calendar systems.

And what I said about it actually being our calendar system, I mean that. Gaia has a 12 month, 365 day year, organized into the same months we have (Including, if we do not assume Tolkien's conceit, the same names for those months).

Where did those era names come from? The book for VII?

Collectively, they've been used in FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania regular and Revised, Crisis Core Ultimania, Crisis Core, IIRC Before Crisis, on Jenova's helmet in the shots seen of it in FF7AC/C, and Dirge, in various places.

Most prominently, they have been used in the FF7U10 and the FF7CCU.
