The voice

well i always thought if at this point his brain has been damaged by mako.. seeing at the point where he just got out of hojo's lab his brain was very vulnerable and thats how he took on another persons memories and believed it to be his own. having another personality wouldn't that make him sort of skitzo. and if so the voices in his head are another part of him in his subconcious, maybe the real him. btw when i say a different personality im referring to the badass he is in ff7 for ps1 is not the same in crisis core and his memories as a child... in each of the latter he is no where near a badass, he is very timid and shy..

I always thought it was just his subconcious, I never really thought about it to be honest I just always assumed it was him

holy crap i was right on...

"As Cloud is trying to place the bomb, a mysterious voice speaks to him. Later, this same kind of mysterious voice resounds in Cloud's head in the scene wherehe and a voice have a conversation, and it offers him reminders. These voicesare the original Cloud, as -- due to Hojo's Sephiroth Clones experiment --Zack's personality merged with his, creating the present day Cloud, producinga conflict of multiple personalities"

swear to god i never seen this when i commented earlier

Voices in Cloud's Head. [SPOILERS]

Right, so I went ahead and restarted VII today. Something that I had forgotten about until I've seen it again, is the voice in Cloud's head that he seems to have conversations with.

For example, the bombing mission on Reactor 01:

"Be careful... This is more than just a reactor."

When he falls through Aerith's church:
"Take it easy now... One step at a time. Back then you could get by with just skinned knees. Can you move?"

When he is going to sleep at Aerith's house:
"I haven't slept in a bed like this since back then..."

I thought MAYBE it was Cloud's memories of things Zack was telling him when he had Mako poisoning prior to Zack dying. It makes sense to me, but I was never completely sure, and never heard anyone else address it.

Anyone want to clear this up for me?

We actually have a discussion and theories about this, so I'll merge the threads together. =]

-Threads Merged-

As I've mentioned in my previous posts, I still think it's the real original Cloud speaking.

Ugh. Wow I looked back a few pages and didn't even notice this. Sorry about this. >_<

SPOILER WARNING!!!

I theorize that the voice which Cloud hears throughout FFVII is actually the voice of Zack Fair, and I'll prove it with facts mentioned only in the original game. (No spinnoff or Ultimania crap).
Read on…

During the mission to bomb the second reactor, Cloud falls to his knees and has a flashback of the Nibelheim incident in which Tifa curses SOLDIER over her father’s dead body inside of the Mt Nibel reactor.
Tifa: “Papa…”
Tifa’s Father: “Sephiroth!?”
Tifa: “Sephiroth did this to you, didn’t he!?
Sephiroth…SOLDIER…Mako Reactors…Shin-Ra…Everything!
I hate them all!”

The basic consent is that the voice is trying to link Cloud’s presence in the Mako Reactor with Sephiroth, using a memory from Cloud’s own past…right? Right?

Quick summary of the event:
Remember that you witness the scene as cloud where Sephiroth makes his discoveries in the library. He walks past Cloud after saying “I’m going to see my mommy”, and Cloud follows him out of the manor. As you exit the manor, you see the entire town of Nibelheim burning in flames. Cloud then follows Sephiroth to the reactor, where he witnesses the above mentioned scene in which Tifa mourns the death of her father, and runs after Sephiroth with his own sword.

(Youtube video of Cloud’s version of the story during your stay at the inn in Kalm, found here:

Buuuut, if you’re smart enough, you’ll remember that Cloud wasn’t there to witness this scene. Zack was the original witness who followed Sephiroth to the reactor after he went on a loony binge. And Cloud came only just in time to see Tifa sliced open at the base of the reactor…and a few feet away from her lay Zack, sprawled out on the floor after his failed assault against Sephiroth.
Cloud then takes Zack’s sword and runs after Sephy…remember? Remember???

(I’m so sorry that I couldn’t find a youtube link that would support this. If you’re aching for proof, just play the game until you reach Mideel, and you’ll see the original scene.)

I hereby propose that that the voice which “haunts” Cloud, is the voice of Zack Fair. I do so suggest this idea (more like total fact), because Zack was the only one present to witness Tifa get sliced and diced by Sephiroth inside of the reactor, and therefore is the only one who could generated the aforementioned flashback.

Cloud used Zack’s accounts of the situation to found all aspects his new personality, including his past.

Now, I’m sure some of you may say, “Well, before Zack died, he told Cloud everything, hence why he was able to have a ‘flashback’ from someone else’s memory”.
It doesn’t matter; my case is still completely valid because of the fact is that Cloud is witnessing someone else’s memories, and the only person who actually had these memories was Zack.
Regardless of whether or not the voice is Cloud’s recollection of something that was said to him many years ago, or if it is literally being spoken to him in the present time of the game via some strange phenomenon (e.g. voices from beyond the lifestream), reality is that he is hearing someone else’s voice.
