I keep 7 Elixer + Hi Potions on me, and 1 Elixer, I'd keep a full 8 Elixer + Hi Potions on me, but I need at least two unfused potions available to make those, and the limit is 8, so once I have 7, I just get another Elixer.
You know, one time I had a Hi Potion + Hi Potion.

how did theta work out? and i'm down to 3 or 2 elixirs. btw i don't have combo potions cause my alchemy skill sucks

One time there were two separate spots in my Potions inventory that had Hi Potion in it, so I was able to fuse two of those same potions together. 
i still have 2 elixirs so this battle will take a little while longer lol
