THIS RP IS STILL OPEN FOR NEW ENTRANTS
Would you believe what the modern world has become in 300 years?
Nothing like anyone would have expected. Magic is abundant in the world- once one man called Norton Phrygian figured it out, word spread like wildfire, literally. Science had been pushed to the back-burners once magic was discovered again, something that hadn't been used since the medieval times. Simultaneously, animals began to use it as well, and nature suddenly was a force to be reckoned with. The Amazon rain forest, which had been in the process of deforestation, suddenly had a tool to fight back with. Technology began to whither. What the world looks like now, is mayhem.
------- ------- ------ ----- ---- --- -- - -- --- ---- ----- ------ ------- --------
Adam sped down the highway, listening to the breeze through the open driver-side window, and the soft hum of the hovercar. The sun shone through the translucent catchscreen, a nifty mechanism that replaced windshields. They still block the wind, but they're much safer. Even through the impact of a freeway accident, someone going headfirst into a catchscreen would only feel a little disoriented- at worst. Up ahead in the highway Adam noticed a wild animal- and his mind froze in fear. Panic washed over him and he set the hovercar on autopilot and reached into his backseat, looking for his Lightning spellbook.
"Oh shit, it has to be here somewhere, where the hell did I leave it?" he said quickly and hurriedly to himself. He finally pulled it out from beneath the passenger seat and sat facing forward again. He was close enough to see what animal it was now, and to see that it had noticed him as well.
A wild elephant raised its trunk high into the air and began to undulate it rhythmically, as if it wasn't feeling even the resistance of the air around it. The desert highway suddenly was a water world. Storm clouds formed within seconds and the catchscreen's automatic Rain-X feature wasn't strong enough to keep his vision clear. Adam began rolling the windows back up, in an attempt to prevent his car from filling with water, but soon enough the hovercar's engine began to whine. The high-pitched sound was soon drowned out by the roar of the car hovering only an inch above the water level, which Adam could see only by the fact that the elephant was more than knee high in the appearing sea.
Adam's survival instincts became prominent and he opened his sun-roof and stood on his seat. The rain began to soak the pages of the book, and through the storm it became hard to see even his hands in front of him, but against it came through his voice as he shouted into the blackening sky, "Let Heaven show its mercy to you, beast! Auβer dir soll mir auf Erden!"
The beast raised back onto its hindlegs, its trunk waving in the air. Lightning struck the tip of it and its body vividly shook, as it collapsed into the deepening water.
Adam panted wildly and shrunk back into his car, fastening the sun-roof back into place. He took the hovercar off of autopilot and pushed down on the pedal, hoping to get out of the area as fast as possible. Shaken and trying to calm himself down, Adam looked back at what had just happened to see the elephant charging toward his car.
"You gotta be fuckin' kidding me..." he said quietly to himself. Looking forward to watch his driving, he made no less than fifty yards before the realized it had caught up.
As the elephant's front right foot came down on the trunk of his car, it launched the vehicle into an upright position, the front bumper high in the air. When speeding at over 90 mph, this maneuver isn't very safe.
As his hovercar made an aerial flip, Adam thought of the impact and if he'd live through it or not.
Debatably fortunate, the elephant caught the car, wrapping its trunk around the front half and crushing the engine inside. Flames erupted from the wreckage and Adam managed into the backseat, where he opened a passenger door. The elephant dropped the vehicle when the fire licked across its face and submerged itself into the water.
As Adam jumped from the falling vehicle, he felt the icy cold freshwater envelope his body. He opened his eyes and saw the elephant walking away from him, toward the sinking vehicle. Adam swam toward the surface, and saw a whirlpool starting just at where the car's crushed engine was sinking. Swimming in the opposite direction, Adam was approached by another vehicle, driving several inches over the surface of the newly formed sea. The flashing lights atop the black and white decals where a relief and they took him in and drove him back to the nearest town.
After telling his story, the local mapping was changed to warn drivers about the newly submerged highway, as Adam had his first encounter with nature fighting back.
------- ------- ------ ----- ---- --- -- - -- --- ---- ----- ------ ------- --------
You can see the potential, I hope. Here's a list of the existing magics:
Fire [1] - The ability to manipulate fire, its aspects, & its principles. The ability to manipulate smoke, its aspects, & its principles.
Water [1] - The ability to water within its liquid field, its aspects and principles.
Ice [1] - The ability to freeze water, manipulate ice, its aspects and its principles.
Lightning [1] - The ability to manipulate lightning advantageously, its aspects, principles, and sources. NOTE: In combination with water, Lightning has the capabilities of producing storms.
Earth [1] - The ability to manipulate the forces of the earth (i.e. soil, sand, rock, clay etc.) advantageously as well as its aspects, within its capabilities.
Zephyr [1] - The ability to manipulate gale force & wind, its aspects, principles, and sources.
Dark [2] - The ability to manipulate shadows & darkness, their aspects, and capabilities. The ability to be prominent in the night and to summon demons. NOTE: Summoned demons are not under your control.
Nature [2] - The ability to manipulate nature, its aspects, and its capabilities, or to expediate its growth.
Dragon [2] - The ability to manipulate simplistic and novice magic in a non-simplistic manner (i.e. Fire is a novice magic. To envelope another in Dragon fire wouldn't burn, but may drown, freeze, or even teleport its subject).
Holy [2] - The ability to call upon the strength of the Heavens and to banish darkness.
Logos [2] - The ability to speak without the barrier of language, and to use speech in any advantageous manner.
Sound [3] - The ability to produce sound in any frequency, to change the direction of sound, or to manipulate existing sound.
Space [3] - The ability to manipulate the visual or textural composition of matter.
Time [3] - The ability to manipulate or fluctuate time in any manner.
Chaos [3] - The ability to effect one's chemical composition or to change a target's mental state.
Atomic [4] - The properties of science as a magic.
Black [5] - The most complicated magic, Black has the abilities that do not fall under any other category.
[1] - Novice
[2] - Simplistic
[3] - Advanced
[4 & 5] - Complex
You will receive 3 points when you create your character. Therefore, you can initially choose anything up to Chaos magic, but if you choose Chaos magic, then you have a rating of '1' FER with it and have no other magic until you get more. If you choose a magic that only needs 1, then you could put all three points into it and have a rating of '3', etc. Mix and match how you'd like.
You get more points by battling with another player, earning them through storyline, or finding them in battle. When you do impressively in battle, you earn a point. When you win the battle, you earn two. If you fight an NPC (Wildebeest, elephant, etc.) it depends on the animal, but generally 1, with few exceptions. At certain points in the storyline, the government may supply each of its own with another point(s).
I see that there has been quite a lot of confusion about the magic system, so I'm going to explain it more thoroughly here. Each category has a maximum of '5' field expertise ranks, or FERs. If it costs 2 points to go up in FER in Dragon magic, then it would cost a total of ten points to get the whole '5' FERs.
In order of price, from lowest to highest:
Hunting knife, Staff, Short Sword, Spear, Handgun, Axe, Bow & Arrows, Sword, Rifle, Particle cannon
The 'Rank' that is required from your character in the template is directed toward your rank in the army. Most will be Privates, but other ranks are acceptable, of course. I'd like to have no more than three Generals, but first come first serve.
Here are some recommendations:
Private
Major
Corporal
Lieutenant

After nature took over, the population dropped drastically. Africa and Europe are the two remaining continents that contain any government controlled concentrations of people. All of North America was taken back over by the animals and nature, the Amazon stretches for almost all of South America and up past the Panama Canal. The bears and eagles and other natural predators dominated man. Everybody either fled to Europe or Africa or died trying. Asia has lost most of its population as well, and the only thing protecting Europe is the large mountain range that divides them.

Many countries have gone to war for power in the past 300 years and others have gained such powerful trusts that they united, to better protect themselves. Another war has broken out, but this one is different;
This is the first war since magic was discovered ninety years ago. The year is 2329 and you are a soldier in the Tunisian army. You are a knight of Tunisia and you are at war with Cameroon. The travels through the varying terrains of Africa will be harsh, going through desert, savanna, abandoned city, forest, jungle, and around bodies of water. The wild animals encountered along the way are no less than vicious, and capable of killing dozens of soldiers each if not dealt with in a timely manner.
Each country is divided into six city-states. Each city-state has only a few remaining cities, each with large populations. The population of Europe and Africa together now stands at ~10 million, 1/15,000th of the initial population in 2200. Our goal is to travel from Tahat, Tunisia to the capital of Cameroon, Yaounde.
