I mean really, would he have a reason not to? But it doesn't really match up. So I'm going to vote no.
Cloud was also pretty out of it when Sephiroth went crazy, but he still managed to carry Tifa down and place her against one of the vats of Mako and he also still managed to attack Sephiroth and throw him into the Lifestream. Who's to say what really happened, but if I'm not mistaken it does say that Zack was buried right where he was shot to death. I agree with Madison on this 100%.
The man in the slums is NOT Zack. Whoever thought of him being Zack is delusional.

I'm gonna have to say it isn't Zack. And as for your theory on Mako poisining Riku, I would like to ask how he would have aquired this poisining
if the last time we saw him, he received MULTIPLE shots from a gun at extremely close range. If the shots didn't kill him on the spot, how would he have been able find a Mako/LIfestream well to be poisened. And if that was so, I'm pretty sure that the combination of bullets, and the overdosing amount of Mako in his system, would have killed him long before you would have seen him in that pipe.

The man in the slums is another Sephiroth Clone, just like tho's men in Black Caps you see later on. The reason he isn't in the slums when you go back to Midgar in Disc 3 is because he's obviously taken part in the 'Reunion'. Its conformed that he is a Sephiroth Clone because of his numbered tattoo he bares that Aeris points out if you visit him prior to going to her house for the first time.
Makes no sense, but I'll try....I voted Yes,I think it's Zack...my reason:-

EXPLAIN THIS
The tattoos arn't for SOLDIER's, they are for Hojo's experiments. Zack never got a tattoo because he was a failed experiment (later mistaken as Cloud). Its not Zack. Zack is dead, deseaced, seized to be, no more, an ex-living being, he is DEAD!
What does 1st Class SOLDIER got to do with it? and no, they arn't the only 1st Class SOLDIER's, just the only one mentioned as far as I know in the game. Angeal in CC is also 1st Class.
is there any proof that zack didnt have a tatoo ! just cos cloud didnt doesnt mean that zack wouldnt ! my theory ...... zack was shot repeatedly ......cloud leaves...... some1 finds zack...... takes him back 2 midgar...... he has no memory just as cloud did not in mideel .... he is just blank ...... cloud + Tifa didnt recognise him cos he didnt react 2 sein them (cos of memory loss) ...... he obviously dies b4 AC due to the poisoning that he couldnt cure as he had no memory !!! i say yes !!!!!
Nice theory....but it has one simple flaw - Aerith was with cloud when they were first in the slums - not Tifa - and Aerith would have remembered Zack for sure - so NO he isnt the man in the slums.
The man in the slums is a sephy clone as im sure a lot of you know he has one of the number tattoo on his arms and when zack was being experimented on by hojo he was a failre just like cloud so neither one of them recieved tattoos zack wasnt effected by make poisoning as you can tell he is completely healthy is the flashback scene in nibelheim mansion also aerith would have reacognised him unless she got a sudden bout of amnisia i mean come on who doesnt remember tehere first love yu can also see his hair its not spiky as zack infact its flat also its brown and zack had black hair i rest my case your honour lol
