I Love Final Fantasy. Always have and always will. However, i feel squeenix are terrible at making games and I dont think they have had one decent game yet! ( except kingdom hearts 2, which was nothing spectacular ). Final Fantasy X is a truly brilliant game and is one of the top games the ps2 had to offer over its lifetime ( Kingdom Hearts being the contender for No 1. ) I just want to say this game is superb, the story line is genious and for the last final fantasy game to be made by square-soft, they did it in style. Does anyone miss the way things were? Lets just hope xiii blows us all away. :)

Yes I do Miss The final fantasy's when Square-soft made them

Square Enix seem To make final fantasy's Tactical And more Mission based rather then 1 Epic Story Like Square Soft Did

I Was So disapointed that there were No Random Battles In FFXI I actually Liked Kingdom hearts 2 Better then the 1st One though So They Did that Okay

So we stick with the same format, all the time, and not like, advance in anyway?
It isn't the last FF game worth playing. Course this is all down to opinion, and many people like games made after X an awful lot.

The last truly great game was Final Fantasy IX. The last game worth playing was FF X-2. After Sakaguchi jumped ship, Square have desperately been trying to bleed the franchise for as much money as possible with their countless spin-offs and remakes. Final Fantasy XII wasn't anything spectacular either, and XIII is the first Final Fantasy (real FF, spin-offs not accounted) that I am not overly excited about before the release.

The question is if FF is even a viable franchise without Hironobu Sakaguchi at the helm. He was the one that created the franchise and over more than a decade built it from what could very well have been Squaresoft's last game back in 1987 to the massive franchise it is today. Personally I only see it going downhill from here on, but I'll reserve my final judgement for FF XIII.

The last Final Fantasy game in the main series? If so then XII is worth playing a fair bit and has a lot to offer and I guess IX is even worth playing, even X-2 is worth playing no matter how bad it's recieved. Square Enix as a whole, I/II/III/IV remakes are worth playing, all the Kingdom Hearts games are brilliant, Revenant Wings, War of the Lions and so on are all brilliant games.

Imo, X is far from the last FF game worth playing, it's definitely one of the best but I'd still play the others regardless.

Just like Larxene and Misty, I think that FFX, though an awesome game, is far from the last playable FFs. FFXII is also one of the best FF games and very worthy of the FF name. As for the remakes, although I like new games, I think it's good that a younger generation is able to experience the early FF titles in quite an enhanced form. Otherwise, they wouldn't. It's not like Square isn't making any new FFs. FFXIII looks pretty interesting. Just my two cents.

Welll no. I liked FF12 after i gave it a chance. FF13 isnt out yet so its waaaaaaay to early to be saying what was the best game is. Although FF12 isnt one of my favourites its still a remarkably good game. Oppinions will differ so it makes the argument kinda pointless really.

to be honest final fantasy 11 was good but the monthly fee's killed hence why a lot of people dont play it, but yes ff10 is the last decent game in the numberd series. If you count every final fantasy game, ff7: CC is amazing; ff7: DoC was good; i've herd tactics is good. Then theres future games that look great like dissidia ff13 and ffvs13.

I don't think SE can make a very good long story game, but they arn't afraid to try new things, like square soft basicaly made 7 - 9 out of the same material not changing a lot trying new things but they were amazing.

Idk why there is so much hate on FFXII for, I have been playing for almost 6 hours and love the game so far. I mean sure the LP and gambits are kinda difficult for me, but come on the Sphere Grid is almost identical to LP only the Grid gives your character stats upgrades not gear to wear. I'm sure FFX wont be the "last" one worth playing. I thought Sq-Enix did a great job on FFCC, just my 2 cents.

Well it was the last one that suited my tastes, that doesn't mean the new games won't entertain others.

Regardless, I think it's safe to say that FFX was probably the last FF game of it's kind. From the looks of things Square-Enix has decided that fast paced action and flashy cutscenes are the best way to present a story. Something I see as a step in the wrong direction.

SE are just taking a new turn in a different direction. FF 12 was just a experiment.
FF X won't be the last '' Final Fantasy '' feeling game if you think positively ! ^__^

Final Fantasy 12 was just a opening pathway into a new generation..
Final Fantasy 7 did that step way back in 1997 on the PlayStation...

Seriously some Final Fantasy 6 fans thought that Final Fantasy 7 is nothing like the original Final Fantasy, and they believed that Final Fantasy 6 was the last true- ever Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy 7 was waay different from the usual collecting crystals from pure evil, and turning away from the old medieval settings..

Think that SE is just doing things for the new generation. But Final Fantasy X was the last Final Fantasy game that was designed and suited to fit our generation..

Think it's time to step back and let the new generation of Final Fantasy fans to step in and enjoy their generation of less step and flash fighting and more mature storylines..

Think that FF12 is one of those games though, that you either enjoy straight away or you have it give it plenty of second chances to grab that feeling of a good FF game..

No, I'd disagree. SE have made lots of great FF games after FFX.

Crisis Core is a fantastic game, despite being a prequel and in the FFVII Compilation it's still got a good story, a fantastically emotional ending and a good battle system and is well worth a play.

FFXII is also a very good FF game. I don't understand the hatred towards it really. FFX tried something totally new and got praised, FFXII tweaked something existing and gets slammed. It's a huge storyline and personally I find it very fun to play. I hated it at first because it was so different, but once I stepped back and gave it a second chance, I thought it was brilliantly fun to play.

We haven't seen FFXIII yet, so I don't think it's fair to write it off before it's even released. It's looking very intriguing so far, but until the final battle game is seen, we can't judge it.

So, FFX, while brilliant, is not the last Final Fantasy game worth playing, there are others out there too. It's all a matter of opinion.

I'm going to shift this over to General Discussion too, as the discussion is around several FF Games, not just FFX ^^

Aww, I liked XII. Sure, the battle system could use some improvement, but SE will learn from mistakes in previous games and try to improve future ones. *coughXIIIorsoIhearcough*

That said, I think FF is done with the turn based system. It looks like XIII may try to mix the turn based system with ATB, but I don't think we'll be really be seeing our characters aligned while we mash in battle commands.

FFXII is the last one worth playing to me. It takes an interesting return to the series roots and has a good enough story. The characters aren't that interesting, but they get the job done. It's a good addition to the series. Any game that comes out in the series lately is worth playing to a series fanatic.

I love em all and will continue to love em all there by far the best series of games ever released and i would say that until they stop there wont be any of them that will not be worth playing

I agree, Squeenix don't really know how to make the real thing.
I liked IV-IX especially and X was okay but after that i kinda started to dislike the storyline, music and characters, which were a vital part of FF for me.

The Kingdom Hearts series are really good though, didn't really like KH2 that much, was okay to go through the game once but no more than that.
The dialogue box was to big and stories for each world were so repeated.
2 was just a storyline with no additional playing (except Sephiroth and mini-games) which i disliked but still i like all the games :P

The battle system was one of the few things i liked, but the music,Vaan, storyline, summons, short FMV's and some levels in the game were the worst parts in my opinion.

But the playtime was a lot and i have been playing this game for over 600 hours so i guess the battle system saved the game for me.

For me, it was FFX. I had some issues with the game, mainly being the story taking place in one big straight line, but I did like it.

FFXII was a big disappointment for me and I stopped playing halfway through because I got bored. The entire game was endless walking with hardly any exciting events happening. Also there was no reason or passion from the characters except for Ashe. Everyone else just seemed to be their for the ride.

I'm just going to pass XII off as a miss and hope that XIII is better.

Final Fantasy X was the last FF worth playing. X-2 and XII were both very underwhelming and lest be honest ...they suck. I don't have very high hopes for XIII so lets hope im wrong. Roll on March 9!

Seeing as though I rather liked FFXII (most definitely wasn't my favourite, but it didn't deserve to be labelled as being crap), I would say there have been FF games since FFX worth playing. I don't think there is a FF game that is a waste of time as each bring to the player their own things.

If we're on about the mainstream FF games (in chronological order), then I would say FFXII. It wasn't perfect, don't get me wrong. I did not like how shallow some of the characters are (*cough*Vaan*cough*Penelo*cough*) and combat in some dungeons and environments did feel very monotonous at times. But I still believe that FFXII is rather underrated. I liked the political aspect of the story. I loved the villains. I loved Ivalice's cities and Balthier! <3

If we're on about other titles released since FFX with "Final Fantasy" in the title, then let's consider:

-Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
-Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
-Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
-Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

Maybe these four above aren't as amazing as the mainstream ones, but they are also all great games worth playing.

I do feel however, that perhaps SE has gone downhill with the mainstream titles lately. I can't stress this out any clearer - they are paying too much time on presentation rather than content and gameplay.

If we're not counting spin-offs, I'd say X. Unless you like MMOs, then XI. To be honest, I thought XII was just boring. The combat was actually pretty good, although the license board could be annoying, so it's not that. I think it's just that I HATED the story. I kind of quit when I got to the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea (or something like that), which, for those who don't know, is one giant place of repetitiveness. Although I didn't really get into the challenging marks, which might have saved the game for me.

I've got to say though, if one really good thing came of XII, it's the "Random Battle" system, because you actually see the monsters before you fight them. It was the only redeeming quality for Star Ocean 3 as well, for me.
