So apparently Peter Jackson is still set on doing something with the Lord of the Rings prequel (or should I say; the first book of it all with LOTR being the sequel?)

Anyway, latest bit of news regards the role of Bilbo and a certain Dr. Who actor.

So, any thoughts on this or other parts of the movie (or the fact that it's apparently going to be a two-parter)?

Well, tbh I actually haven't seen enough of Dr. Who to be familiar with McCoy's acting in it, but if Peter Jackson had almost chosen him for Bilbo in LOTR that does sound promising :hmmm:

I think I'd heard somewhere that Guillermo del Toro is still supposed to be directing The Hobbit, anyone know if that still stands? He is a great director (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth etc :D), but I'm not sure how he would translate a Tolkien work :hmmm:

Nah Guillermo del Toro backed out of the project a while ago, and to the best of my knowledge, there's no director currently attached to the project. The fact that there's not even a director involved at present time also makes me doubt that there are any casting calls going on.

Unless of course Jackson is directing The Hobbit himself...

I think Peter Jackson is the only man who can direct it now. Del Toro was an excellent choice, so it's a shame he's dropped out. I'll wait until more cast and crew are announced before I start getting too excited about it though.

I heard a while back that Ron Pearlman is/was being lined up to play Thorin.
