This story in no way describes true intentions of people who characters are named after...
A story set in the city of Washington DC where lies are at the center of it all...
Oliver sat at the edge of the limo seating two meters away from his mother. His head rested on the tinted windows as he gazed out into the night sky. The city of DC was so bright tonight with tourists about the streets. “Look happier.” His mother said as she examined herself in a pocket mirror to make sure her features were flawless.
“How can I look happy when you know I hate going to these things?” Oliver replied gazing out at the city misty eyed.
Social functions was a lifestyle he tried to escape once before, but what made this worse was that he already had a lot on his mind at the time. His last day of high school had ended just seven hours ago.
“Well it’s my event. Try to look happy for me for once. After all if it wasn’t for this company your ass would be working at some dump paying your own rent.” His mother said without breaking her gaze into the mirror.
Oliver stared at her harshly through the dimly lit limo lights. Her makeup, her ruby red dress with diamonds embedded on the chest, her hair, nothing could hide the true beast her knew her to be. “Whatever.” Oliver uttered out of his mouth as he averted his gaze towards the window at the city lights.
He wasn’t as thrilled to have his mother’s company make a comeback. He had experienced the high life before when he was a child, but when the company went bankrupt his family was forced to live a middle class lifestyle. Now his mother was hosting a gala this night, the night where she would announce the opening of the Sandsmith Company once more.
“We’re here.” The driver Daniel spoke as they arrived at their destination.
The limo pulled up in front of a large building with grand architecture and columns lining the front. Red velvet ropes along with a red carpet lined their pathway inside. Paparazzi and reporters stood over the ropes as guests to the function arrived. Many were socialites and celebrities. “Ugh…it seems like we’re big news.” Oliver spoke as his mother moved closer to him and the door.
“Yes, because of me.” She spoke as Daniel the driver got out to circle around the limo.
The door opened and Oliver’s heart pumped slowly.

Daren stood with a cup of wine swirling it about in his hand as the social gathering began. He gazed at the girls in the giant hall giggling near the coat room. They glanced at him and he glanced back. There was no way he would be willing to even touch their coats. But they al looked pretty and desperate. He took a final swig of the wine and walked back over to the bar.
“Refill.” He grunted to the girl at the bar stretching his glass over to a blonde bartending female.
She looked at the underage man and accepted his cup along with the hidden hundred dollar bill in his sleeve. The cup filled with red wine once again and was handed over to his. Daren hastily grabbed it and walked over back to his spot. The giggling girls were still there eyeing him as he came back. As he took a sip a familiar girl in a purple gown with vibrant red hair went rushing past.
“Looking stunning Charlotte,” Daren uttered as he watched the girl stop in her tracks.
The girl named Charlotte turned elegantly o face him but her expression drooped when she saw him. “What are you doing here? You don’t even have the right to show up!”
“I could say the same for you.” Daren spoke as he walked up to her.
She was a beautiful young woman with soft features whose long red hair glowed in the light. Daren began to rest his hand on her shoulder. “Don’t you touch me.” Charlotte growled in anger.
“Fine, go running to your boyfriend then.” Daren said sarcastically.
“Are you really that sick? Can you really just pass off what we did like it was nothing?” Charlotte said almost shivering in anger.
“It was nothing.”
“No. We are bad people.”
The two stood in silence gazing at each other. Giggling from the coat room girls broke the silence. “Just forget about it.” Daren spoke softly.
Charlotte turned her head away and walked away furiously. Daren took another swig from the wine glass and looked up. The giggling girls weren’t there anymore…
Part 2
Oliver shielded himself from the last of the pictures taken of him as he entered through the double doors into the main entrance of the building. People from all directions were bustling around in their evening gowns and their suits. Oliver spotted a familiar face further down. “Hey!” he smiled as his old friend from four years ago turned in surprise.
“Oliver!” Daren shouted as he hugged his old friend. “It’s been years.”
“Yeah! I never expected to see you here!” Oliver exclaimed happily remembering his friend from years ago. “What are you doing here?”
“Just welcoming you back to high society my friend.” He spoke as he led Oliver further into the party. “It was a bit surprising to learn you’d be back to the city so soon.”
“It’s a bit surprising you haven’t knocked anyone up yet.” Oliver joked.
This function was getting much better now that there was someone he knew. A speech by his mother was beginning. It would probably be long and boring. Oliver couldn’t watch, he slowly sank into the back of the forming crowd and drifted towards the bar. He would need a lot to get through the phoniness of his mother. He knew everything she had done to him and to other innocent people to come as far as she had.
“Gimmie one.” Oliver grunted as he pointed to a bottle of white wine in the corner.
“Oh yes sir!” A female bartender said recognizing him as the hostess’ son.
With a glass in hand Olive began to drink.
“Psst!” came a voice in the back by the coat room in the entrance hall.
Oliver turned slowly, who on earth would want something from him now? It was a girl, his long distance girlfriend from the past four years beckoning him to meet her. Upon seeing her stunning dress and beauty he walked over to hug her. “There’s something we need to talk about…” She said instantly as they hugged.
“I’ve missed you.” Oliver whispered.
Charlotte’s somber expression remained. How could she tell him what she had done, a deed that would surely separate them forever? “We’ll speak in private.” Oliver said as he brought her to the entrance hall. “Why do you look so depressed? Are you not happy to see me?”
“No, no I’m glad you’re back, it’s just…” Her gaze pointed downwards. “We’ve all been so busy these past few years.”
“Charlotte!” a female’s voice called out. “Hey! It’s me! Alison!”
Another girl came rushing over from a group of giggling girls who had been standing by the coat room for some time. Her hair was black and long with jewels hanging around her neck. “Don’t you remember? From school?” Alison spoke as she walked over towards the two.
“Oh yeah! Hi!” Charlotte said very frustrated.
“You want in on this?” Alison asked pointing to what seemed to be plastic bags the other two girls by the coat room were holding.
”No, no thanks.” Charlotte said “Excuse us.”
Oliver had led Charlotte up a nearby staircase and onto a landing. The second floor of the hall they entered seemed to be empty enough. “So what is it that you wanted to tell me?” he asked.
“I ch….”
“Come on, out with it already.”
“I um…”
“You can say it. I’ll try to understand.”
“I cheated on you.” Charlotte spoke softly.
She turned away afraid of seeing his reaction. Oliver’s heart skipped a beat. He had a feeling something like this would happen. “We…um…it’s okay.” He tried to utter….
But it wasn’t okay. All this time he had been pouring everything into their relationship and she had already been willing to give it up. “I need to go think.” He said.
“But I realized it was wrong afterwards and have been regretting it ever since.”
“Do you really expect me to just…..what DO you expect me to do?” Oliver answered almost shaking.
How could someone do this to another person? “But it didn’t mean anything!” Charlotte spoke.
Silence had begun to take hold of everything. “And when were you going to tell me that you started doing drugs to?” Oliver asked quietly.
“I never di-“
“IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT GIRL KNEW YOU.” Oliver spoke raising his voice. “She and her friends with that cheap crack or whatever the hell you’ve been doing.”
“No…I…it…” Charlotte was speechless.
She knew a reaction like this would emerge sooner or later. She began to descend the stairs. “I’ll leave you to think…”
Part 3
The dance floor was crowding up as Daren sat at a nearby table watching the dancers. “Where the hell has he gone?” He muttered in wonder.
“Excuse me.” Oliver’s mother spoke on the microphone. “I just wanted to thank my lovely son, who’s helped me through the tireless times of trying to repair our company. Without him non of this would be possible. So lets give him a hand.”
The room erupted with applause but it began to break when everyone realized Oliver was not present. The scene had begun to reset back to normal and the hostess has etched a furious look on her face.
Daren sat in a chair when all of a sudden a girl walked over to him. She looked familiar. “Hey, you want to get out of here?” She asked.
“Where are your groupies?” Daren asked slyly as he stood recognizing her from the coatroom.
“Nowhere. There’s this party I want to hit before the nights over. I figured you could escort me.” She spoke.
“Daren.” He spoke as he held out an arm for her.
“Alison.” She smiled as she took it and began to exit the building…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second floor bathroom was cold and empty. Staring at himself in the mirror Oliver had begun to regret coming back. He liked the lower class life and the simple ness of it all. There was never too much drama all at once. He hated drama.
Exiting the restroom he figured that it was time to head back to his mother’s function. He walked along the empty second floor corridor when all of a sudden he spotted a woman stumbling about the hall. She there was a guy trying to catch up to her. “Wait.” The male shouted as he jogged towards her. “The exit’s down the stairs.”
The woman stumbled drunkenly towards Oliver who walked near her in an attempt to help the other guy when all of a sudden she stumbled through an open glass door out onto a small balcony. “Get her!” The guy screamed running towards the balcony.
Oliver rushed out onto the balcony also but when he and the other young man had reached it, the woman was nowhere to be found.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So you go to the same school huh? I haven’t seen you around!” Alison chuckled as she and Daren emerged from the coatroom with their coats on ready to depart.
“Yea. We graduate in two days.” Daren spoke.
He didn’t care much for small talk; he only wanted to get laid tonight. It was the only good option besides getting wasted at this slowly dying party. He escorted her to the door. “Thanks haha!” Alison chuckled.
“So, where’s this party?” Daren asked.
But as he said this a body went plunging from right above them and landed on the pavement with a sickening splat. “Eeek!” Alison screamed as Daren took a closer look.
It was no doubt that it was a female who had fallen to her doom. As he looked on he discovered that she wore a purple dress…
