A story set in the city of Washington DC where lies are at the center of it all...

Chapter 1: Death From Above
Part 1
Party Music-Money Honey

Oliver sat at the edge of the limo seating two meters away from his mother. His head rested on the tinted windows as he gazed out into the night sky. The city of DC was so bright tonight with tourists about the streets. “Look happier.” His mother said as she examined herself in a pocket mirror to make sure her features were flawless.

“How can I look happy when you know I hate going to these things?” Oliver replied gazing out at the city misty eyed.

Social functions was a lifestyle he tried to escape once before, but what made this worse was that he already had a lot on his mind at the time. His last day of high school had ended just seven hours ago.

“Well it’s my event. Try to look happy for me for once. After all if it wasn’t for this company your ass would be working at some dump paying your own rent.” His mother said without breaking her gaze into the mirror.

Oliver stared at her harshly through the dimly lit limo lights. Her makeup, her ruby red dress with diamonds embedded on the chest, her hair, nothing could hide the true beast her knew her to be. “Whatever.” Oliver uttered out of his mouth as he averted his gaze towards the window at the city lights.

He wasn’t as thrilled to have his mother’s company make a comeback. He had experienced the high life before when he was a child, but when the company went bankrupt his family was forced to live a middle class lifestyle. Now his mother was hosting a gala this night, the night where she would announce the opening of the Sandsmith Company once more.

“We’re here.” The driver Daniel spoke as they arrived at their destination.

The limo pulled up in front of a large building with grand architecture and columns lining the front. Red velvet ropes along with a red carpet lined their pathway inside. Paparazzi and reporters stood over the ropes as guests to the function arrived. Many were socialites and celebrities. “Ugh…it seems like we’re big news.” Oliver spoke as his mother moved closer to him and the door.

“Yes, because of me.” She spoke as Daniel the driver got out to circle around the limo.

The door opened and Oliver’s heart pumped slowly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daren stood with a cup of wine swirling it about in his hand as the social gathering began. He gazed at the girls in the giant hall giggling near the coat room. They glanced at him and he glanced back. There was no way he would be willing to even touch their coats. But they al looked pretty and desperate. He took a final swig of the wine and walked back over to the bar.

“Refill.” He grunted to the girl at the bar stretching his glass over to a blonde bartending female.

She looked at the underage man and accepted his cup along with the hidden hundred dollar bill in his sleeve. The cup filled with red wine once again and was handed over to his. Daren hastily grabbed it and walked over back to his spot. The giggling girls were still there eyeing him as he came back. As he took a sip a familiar girl in a purple gown with vibrant red hair went rushing past.

“Looking stunning Charlotte,” Daren uttered as he watched the girl stop in her tracks.

The girl named Charlotte turned elegantly o face him but her expression drooped when she saw him. “What are you doing here? You don’t even have the right to show up!”

“I could say the same for you.” Daren spoke as he walked up to her.

She was a beautiful young woman with soft features whose long red hair glowed in the light. Daren began to rest his hand on her shoulder. “Don’t you touch me.” Charlotte growled in anger.

“Fine, go running to your boyfriend then.” Daren said sarcastically.

“Are you really that sick? Can you really just pass off what we did like it was nothing?” Charlotte said almost shivering in anger.

“It was nothing.”

“No. We are bad people.”

The two stood in silence gazing at each other. Giggling from the coat room girls broke the silence. “Just forget about it.” Daren spoke softly.

Charlotte turned her head away and walked away furiously. Daren took another swig from the wine glass and looked up. The giggling girls weren’t there anymore…
Part 2

Oliver shielded himself from the last of the pictures taken of him as he entered through the double doors into the main entrance of the building. People from all directions were bustling around in their evening gowns and their suits. Oliver spotted a familiar face further down. “Hey!” he smiled as his old friend from four years ago turned in surprise.

“Oliver!” Daren shouted as he hugged his old friend. “It’s been years.”
“Yeah! I never expected to see you here!” Oliver exclaimed happily remembering his friend from years ago. “What are you doing here?”

“Just welcoming you back to high society my friend.” He spoke as he led Oliver further into the party. “It was a bit surprising to learn you’d be back to the city so soon.”

“It’s a bit surprising you haven’t knocked anyone up yet.” Oliver joked.

This function was getting much better now that there was someone he knew. A speech by his mother was beginning. It would probably be long and boring. Oliver couldn’t watch, he slowly sank into the back of the forming crowd and drifted towards the bar. He would need a lot to get through the phoniness of his mother. He knew everything she had done to him and to other innocent people to come as far as she had.

“Gimmie one.” Oliver grunted as he pointed to a bottle of white wine in the corner.

“Oh yes sir!” A female bartender said recognizing him as the hostess’ son.

With a glass in hand Olive began to drink.

“Psst!” came a voice in the back by the coat room in the entrance hall.

Oliver turned slowly, who on earth would want something from him now? It was a girl, his long distance girlfriend from the past four years beckoning him to meet her. Upon seeing her stunning dress and beauty he walked over to hug her. “There’s something we need to talk about…” She said instantly as they hugged.

“I’ve missed you.” Oliver whispered.

Charlotte’s somber expression remained. How could she tell him what she had done, a deed that would surely separate them forever? “We’ll speak in private.” Oliver said as he brought her to the entrance hall. “Why do you look so depressed? Are you not happy to see me?”

“No, no I’m glad you’re back, it’s just…” Her gaze pointed downwards. “We’ve all been so busy these past few years.”

“Charlotte!” a female’s voice called out. “Hey! It’s me! Alison!”

Another girl came rushing over from a group of giggling girls who had been standing by the coat room for some time. Her hair was black and long with jewels hanging around her neck. “Don’t you remember? From school?” Alison spoke as she walked over towards the two.

“Oh yeah! Hi!” Charlotte said very frustrated.

“You want in on this?” Alison asked pointing to what seemed to be plastic bags the other two girls by the coat room were holding.

”No, no thanks.” Charlotte said “Excuse us.”

Oliver had led Charlotte up a nearby staircase and onto a landing. The second floor of the hall they entered seemed to be empty enough. “So what is it that you wanted to tell me?” he asked.

“I ch….”

“Come on, out with it already.”

“I um…”

“You can say it. I’ll try to understand.”

“I cheated on you.” Charlotte spoke softly.

She turned away afraid of seeing his reaction. Oliver’s heart skipped a beat. He had a feeling something like this would happen. “We…um…it’s okay.” He tried to utter….

But it wasn’t okay. All this time he had been pouring everything into their relationship and she had already been willing to give it up. “I need to go think.” He said.

“But I realized it was wrong afterwards and have been regretting it ever since.”

“Do you really expect me to just…..what DO you expect me to do?” Oliver answered almost shaking.

How could someone do this to another person? “But it didn’t mean anything!” Charlotte spoke.

Silence had begun to take hold of everything. “And when were you going to tell me that you started doing drugs to?” Oliver asked quietly.

“I never di-“

“IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT GIRL KNEW YOU.” Oliver spoke raising his voice. “She and her friends with that cheap crack or whatever the hell you’ve been doing.”

“No…I…it…” Charlotte was speechless.

She knew a reaction like this would emerge sooner or later. She began to descend the stairs. “I’ll leave you to think…”

Part 3

The dance floor was crowding up as Daren sat at a nearby table watching the dancers. “Where the hell has he gone?” He muttered in wonder.

“Excuse me.” Oliver’s mother spoke on the microphone. “I just wanted to thank my lovely son, who’s helped me through the tireless times of trying to repair our company. Without him non of this would be possible. So lets give him a hand.”

The room erupted with applause but it began to break when everyone realized Oliver was not present. The scene had begun to reset back to normal and the hostess has etched a furious look on her face.

Daren sat in a chair when all of a sudden a girl walked over to him. She looked familiar. “Hey, you want to get out of here?” She asked.

“Where are your groupies?” Daren asked slyly as he stood recognizing her from the coatroom.

“Nowhere. There’s this party I want to hit before the nights over. I figured you could escort me.” She spoke.

“Daren.” He spoke as he held out an arm for her.

“Alison.” She smiled as she took it and began to exit the building…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second floor bathroom was cold and empty. Staring at himself in the mirror Oliver had begun to regret coming back. He liked the lower class life and the simple ness of it all. There was never too much drama all at once. He hated drama.

Exiting the restroom he figured that it was time to head back to his mother’s function. He walked along the empty second floor corridor when all of a sudden he spotted a woman stumbling about the hall. She there was a guy trying to catch up to her. “Wait.” The male shouted as he jogged towards her. “The exit’s down the stairs.”

The woman stumbled drunkenly towards Oliver who walked near her in an attempt to help the other guy when all of a sudden she stumbled through an open glass door out onto a small balcony. “Get her!” The guy screamed running towards the balcony.

Oliver rushed out onto the balcony also but when he and the other young man had reached it, the woman was nowhere to be found.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“So you go to the same school huh? I haven’t seen you around!” Alison chuckled as she and Daren emerged from the coatroom with their coats on ready to depart.

“Yea. We graduate in two days.” Daren spoke.
He didn’t care much for small talk; he only wanted to get laid tonight. It was the only good option besides getting wasted at this slowly dying party. He escorted her to the door. “Thanks haha!” Alison chuckled.

“So, where’s this party?” Daren asked.

But as he said this a body went plunging from right above them and landed on the pavement with a sickening splat. “Eeek!” Alison screamed as Daren took a closer look.

It was no doubt that it was a female who had fallen to her doom. As he looked on he discovered that she wore a purple dress…

Chapter 2: Arrested Ignorance

Part 1

The morning was rough as usual for the nation’s capitol, but for some in particular it was very scarring. Oliver arose from his bed in his Northwest penthouse which viewed most of Washington. It was this morning that became the first morning he couldn’t gaze out of the window in his room that revealed the most beautiful scenes imaginable from a mile away. It was also the first morning ever where he had forgotten to put toothpaste onto his toothbrush or to tie a belt around his jeans. He had still be traumatized of the death of the woman from the night before.

The television in the penthouse was already on when Oliver went to the kitchen to go to eat breakfast. To his surprise a female was already in the kitchen making breakfast and leaning into the refrigerator. She wore a small covering like a robe and he could see her blue panties.

She had black long hair and a blue matching bra with pale skin. “W-who are-?” he began to ask before he was cut off.

“Oh! You’re awake!” she spoke as she turned.

He recognized her immediately as family. “What are you doing here?” Oliver asked.

“Haha! You’re surprised? Your mom said I could come and stay since I would be going to school here next year.” His cousin replied.

“I still don’t understand Brittany.” Oliver said wiping the sleep from his eyes.

“She figured you needed some company if you were going to live in this penthouse for college. What better a roommate than family?” Brittany spoke as she happily handed a plate with eggs, toast and bacon. “Eat up.”

“T-thanks.” Oliver said taking the plate of food and sitting at the bar area that connected the kitchen and the lounge. “So your parents are okay with this?”

“Yea, they figured it would be a good opportunity to come here and meet people and make connections.” Brittany said heading over to the bar to eat her plate of food.

“Ah I see.” Oliver said not knowing what to feel at the moment.

He figured it would be kind of nice having a roommate. After all he only moved in here a few days ago. His mother’s house was right down the street. “Did you hear about that woman who fell off the balcony last night at your mom’s company function thing?” Brittany asked out of the blue turning up the news channel.

“Yea I heard.” Oliver said, a sinking feeling welling up in his stomach again.

“They said her name was Sabrina something and that she was some high class business woman of some sort.” Brittany spoke. “Apparently she was pushed out of a window…”

“Pushed?!” Oliver almost whispered while watching the news story about the deceased woman.

The reporters had indeed reported her as being pushed and a banner scrolling across the screen said that the police would be searching for suspects. Oliver knew he would be number one when it came to that. “Ah well. I’m gonna go get changed.” Sabrina said as she headed off to her room. “There’s supposed to be some awesome underground party in Southwest and I need to shop! Wanna escort me?”

“Sorry, I have some things to do today, but I promise to show you the city sometime later.” Oliver said as he walked her to the guest room which was now her own. “Oh! And we need to talk about this living situation at lunch okay?”

“Okay.” Brittany spoke before shutting the door to her room.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlotte sat in the playground of a nearby public elementary school. She swung slowly in her jeans and jacket as the morning sun had begun it’s rising into the sky. Holding her cell phone she began to call Daren...There was no answer. She kept swinging until the answering machine came one. “I told him.”

She hung up the phone after the repetition of the small phrase. It wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be. He didn’t seem too angry. She thought as she began to walk over towards her limo parked nearby. “You okay madam? Can we go to your brunch now?” her driver asked.

“Yes, sure lets go.” Charlotte responded getting into the limo.

She shook off the minor guilt which had been relieved. She had to think about the Rave Party she would be attending later on and she would have to buy a dress. And as for her date, she would have to go alone as her long distance relationship had ended the night before from the looks of things.

But all of a sudden her phone had rang. She answered without looking at the caller id. “Hello?”

“Hey.” Oliver’s voice came from the other end. “It didn’t mean anything right?”

“Right! Nothing at all! It was a stupid mistake!” She spoke, her expression blank.

“I…forgive ya…”Oliver spoke. “So everything’s okay alright?”
Charlotte smiled. He was always understanding, but she never thought he would be this understanding. “Okay so you wanna go out tonight then?” she asked as the limo drove off.

“Where?”

“Well there’s this rave I was gonna go to…”

“I’m so tiiired!” Alison said with a smile as she and Daren left the police station from questioning.

They walked back out into the city streets and the sun hit them instantly. They had been answering questions for the longest time and had even gotten on the news a couple of times. “Do all parties of yours involve people raining from the skies?” Daren asked sarcastically.

“Heh, not really…” Alison said remembering her party.

She really wanted to go in order to be seen by others. Popularity meant everything to her. “Well I guess I should get going home.” Daren said with a sigh.

He was annoyed at being kept by the police, and even more annoyed of Alison. “Shall I call a limo?” Daren asked.

“Oh no! my house is close by, I can walk thanks.” She smiled as she began to leave down the street.

Her night had been awful. And what would her parents think? She would surely be punished for this when she got home. Thoughts and thoughts swirled her mind as she tried to think up a quick lie to tell her parents.

She crossed the street and four more blocks until finally; she arrived at her house on the corner. She jiggled her house keys into a lock and opened the door. Luckily it opened silently as always and she closed it quickly. She tiptoed her way through the big home and crawled up the steps as to make as little noise as she possibly could. She successfully made it to the landing before hearing noises in her parent’s bedroom. She ran towards her room as full speed, making loud thumps on the floor as she went.

She shut her door breathing heavily as soon as she entered the room and began to tear off all her clothes. “Ali?” came the voice of her mother. “Ali? What on earth?”

She kept tearing clothes off her until she was only in her under garments. “Ali open this door!” her mother said with a stern look.

Alison opened the door for her mother, covering herself up and putting on a tired and annoyed face. “Yes?”

“Aw just skip the act Alison we saw you on the news.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oliver walked down the street cellphone in hand while talking to his friend Daren. The streets were beginning to bustle with business people. “It was awful.” Daren’s voice echoed on the other end of describing his night at the police station. “The worst of it was the chick I was with.”

“Oh really?” Oliver replied.

He loved listening to his friends complaining or expressing what was on their mind. It made him feel more comfortable. “So what are you up to?” Darens asked.

Oliver had taken a turn down a narrow street with a strange man popping his head out of an alleyway ahead of him. He kept walking casually. “I just got finished talking to my cousin at lunch. I’m headed back to the Penthouse.” Oliver spoke staring at the strange man ahead who was now beckoning him to walk towards the alleyway.

Oliver stared strangely. “Hold on I’ll call you back.” He told Daren as he dialed 911 on his cell and kept his index finger ready on the call button.

As he got nearer to the alley the strange man walked up to him saying “It’s about time. I’ve been looking all over for ya.” He spoke.

Oliver stared at him is disbelief. This man had untidy black hair and wore a leather jacket over a grey t-shirt and ripped jeans. It was odd for him to be associated with Oliver at all. “Do I know you?” Oliver asked.

“Yea, I’m the guy from last night. The one who was with you when Ms. Sabrina fell from the balcony.” He spoke.

“Oh. That was you?” Oliver spoke in disbelief.

The man who was with him that night looked much cleaner than the one who stood before him. It gave an interesting vibe. “Well what do you need me for?” Oliver asked.

“Well I found that someone’s trying to pin the murder on us.” The man said. “There were tapes from the building that saw us in the hallway.”

“But neither of us did anything!” said Oliver in disbelief. “Are you really him?”

“Yes! If you don’t believe me you can see for yourself but I saw the tapes just before they were taken. The cameras were at an angle that made it look like you push her through the door and over the balcony.” The stranger said.

“Where are these tapes?”

“At a lab in Southwest for now.” Said the Man. “The tapes are being examined to discover the identities of the people on them.”

Oliver was speechless. “How can I even trust you? I mean just look at you.” Oliver said referring to the rocker look the man wore.

“Just meet me there at midnight. We can’t go during the day.” The man said. “Maybe we can even destroy the tapes.”

“I’m going to a rave in Southwest. You can meet me there.” Oliver spoke suspiciously.

Something wasn’t right with this stranger. It’s true that his face seemed a little familiar, but how could he have known about the tapes at all? “Hey!” Oliver called out as he thought of this question, but the man had already disappeared…

“This is so cool!” Brittany gasped as she followed Oliver and Charlotte down a set of stairs into the basement of a building to the rave.

Flashing lights from below and music beats seemed to emanate up towards them. “I’ve never been to a rave before.” Brittany said as they reached the very bottom.

The three of them stood at the people crowding the room, dancing everywhere. On tables on chairs, on anything they could stand on. Spotlights of blue, pink and green danced about the crowed of people. “There must be a parking garage nearby.” Charlotte said in wonder to how the room was so air conditioned with all of the people there.

“I dunno wanna dance?” Oliver asked Charlotte.

“Sure.” She said as she took his and Brittany’s hand.

They marched through the crowed of dancers and began to find their way into a small spot in the center. People from all over danced together or alone. They seemed distant and moved wherever the music told them to. The three began to dance as crazy as they could, mimicking the others they saw. Everything the three kept dancing in a huge circle.

Oliver felt his phone vibrating in his pocket, but only saw that it was a text from Daren who was wondering where he was. He texted him back saying: At SW Rave Pty. Come.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alison arrived to the rave party squeezed her way pass the bouncers. She walked down the stairwell, ready to sell more of her parent’s meds for money and to make a social scene. She tip toed down to the entrance where she met someone familiar. “Hey! It’s you!” She spoke with a surprise.

“Wha? Crap.” Said Daren who was looking for a girl to take home in the sea of people.

“So you want anything?” Alison asked holding up plastic baggies to Daren’s face.

He looked at her annoyed. “Is that ecstasy?” Daren asked as he grabbed the whole baggie full.

He knew a way to get the party started easily. He took a roll of cash from his pant pocket and just handed the money over to Alison who almost snatched it without hesitation. Daren then walked over casually to the drinks. Sadly he saw no alcoholic beverages. “I knew it.” He mouthed. “No wonder it wasn’t easy getting a girl.”

He took small handfuls of the pills and dumped them casually into each bowl of liquid he could find and then he stirred up the pills making it look like he was getting a drink. Chuckling he stood next to the bar, almost grinning when he saw two twin blondes with amazing bodies walk over and pour a cup of punch. “Hey.” He said the the girls as they smiled back.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The party raged on and Oliver felt tired. Brittany and Charlotte were missing in the crowd and he didn’t feel like doing anything but dance. “Hey.” Went a males voice from behind him. “It’s me.”

Oliver was confused at first but whoever it was had put his arm around his chest and pulled him backwards through the crowd. “Where are you taking me?” Oliver asked slightly slurred as he had been feeling funny ever since he got a bowl a punch thirty minutes ago. “Come on it’s almost midnight, we gotta go.” Went the familiar voice.

“But? What? Huh?” Went Oliver as he could now see the man who had come after him earlier.

“Lets go I called the police on this party as a distraction. We can exit through the parking garage while it’s still time.” The man went.

Alison who stood nearby began to become alarmed and ran for the exit. She knew that she had sold drugs to a large amount of people at the party. If the police were to come everyone in attendance would easily be arrested…

Chapter 3: A Shot in the Dark

Police sirens echoed in the dead of night. Headlights sped down the streets of the sleeping city. For some the night would be restless, but for others, very revealing. As the police cars sped through busy streets they finally reached the empty building they had been looking for. College students, high school students, adults, everyone ran in all directions from the cops as they arrived. Luckily DC’s finest had already a backup of twenty cars and double the officers crashing this party.

The music inside the large room had died as loud sirens replaced their sound. People panicked. Charlotte had no idea where her friends were amongst the chaos. “Oliver!” She screamed above the escaping ravers.

It seemed that the others had made their move. It was at this time she had to think for herself. She could hear the officer’s voices shouting as others had become captured. She ran out of a nearby door into an unfamiliar corridor. Hopefully she could find a place to escape. She ran, hearing footsteps behind her and the screams of females behind her. Huffing and puffing she ran to another door and entered.

This time it seemed that she was in an airy place. She could hear wind. Was she inside of a parking garage? It seemed that way to her. Voices and footsteps were coming she had to find a place to run! Getting arrested a day before graduation would not look so great on her record.

She saw another steel door and ran to it quickly. Hopefully it will open. She thought. She turned the cold handle and pulled, the door swung open. She entered and slammed the door shut, locking it from the other side. “Hey do you mind?” came a male’s voice who must have been one of the partiers.

The view was pitch black and nothing could be seen. The air inside was humid and Char began to sweat a little.

Charlotte realized that she may have just interrupted something very personal, but she didn’t care. It was either get arrested or bother them. “Shhhh!” She said, “The cops might hear you! Then we’re all busted!”

“Cops?” asked a females voice in panic. “What cops?”

“Well this is an unauthorized party.” The male voice said.

“Shhhhh!” went Charlotte.

The last thing she wanted was for the police to hear them. A small light from the door showed at the bottom of the closet the three persons were locked in. A lot of rustling in the back of the room made by two people erupted in silence and Charlotte began to kneel down towards the crack at the bottom of the door for fresh air. She never wanted her night to end up like this, and her parents would be worried sick that she was out so late. What would they think of her?! “So are we just gonna wait here till the cops leave?” the male’s voice erupted again. “They could be searching this place for hours!”

“I want to go home, lets get out of here.” The female’s voice spoke.

“Will you two be quiet?” Charlotte snapped.

All of a sudden footsteps began to echo from the other side of the door. The foot steps got closer and the three stood in silence. Ferocious hits on the door began to erupt and the person on the other side tried the locked handle. More furious beating of the door, and then silence…

“That wasn’t a cop.” The male in the closet spoke as the footsteps began to echo away.

“How would you know?” the female spoke.

“Cops aren’t that vicious…That must have been someone else.” The male responded.

“Does anybody have a match?” Charlotte asked.

She was tired of being locked in with these two. Oh why had she been cursed with being locked in with them? A lighter clicked behind her and she turned to face the other two. In the dim light Charlotte saw the face that instantly made her night much worse. “Daren, what the hell are you doing here?” Charlotte asked furiously.

She also recognized the female who turned out to be Oliver’s cousin who had arrived at the party with them. Now she knew why the guy wouldn’t shut up.

“Nice to see you too Char,” Daren spoke as he now could see clearly the snappy girl who had entered into the room.

“Shhh! He’s coming back” Brittany whispered as she pointed towards the crack below the door where the parking garage light came from.

It was being blocked by someone’s feet on the other side. The person on the other side was probably trying to listen to them. All of a sudden in the silence a loud “Bang!” rang out as a dent appeared in the door.

“He’s shooting the door?” Brittany panicked.

Daren who held the lighter had taken the light and crawled down on his knees. He was messing with something that looked like a vent. More shots rang out and more dents in the door. The face of the vent began to jiggle in the light of the small flame in the room. Brittany took the lighter in hand and held it towards the vent. Daren struggled with it, and eventually Charlotte walked over to help him take it off. Finally they got it off. The vent was small, but it was wide and tall enough for a person. “You first!” Daren said as he pushed Brittany through the vent. “Watch your head.”

Charlotte crawled into the vent after wards, with Daren at the end.

Part 2

“What are you doing?” Oliver asked as he opened his eyes.

His vision began to focus again. With each peek out of his eyes he saw himself moving forward through the darkness. He realized that something wasn’t right. “Are…are you giving me a freaken piggyback ride?” Oliver asked immediately jumping of the stranger’s back in surprise.

“It’s not my fault you passed out of the sidewalk!” The stranger said. “I was trying to save your ass!”

Oliver stood quietly. He did feel like he had just come out of a blackout. “Wait….so where are we then?” Oliver asked.

“Outside the building. Let’s hurry, hopefully you’re sober enough to handle yourself.” The stranger said walking up to the iron fence surrounding a big building.

“I didn’t drink alcohol…” Oliver mumbled.

“Hurry up! Do you wanna erase those tapes or what?”

“Are you kidding me? I don’t even know your name and you’re asking me to break into some place to get fake tapes of me that may or may not exist?” Oliver said flustered and tired.

“My names Joey.” The man said as he helped Oliver over the fence from the other side. “And if you don’t want to end up in jail, I suggest you get your ass in gear.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“What can you see?” whispered Charlotte as she followed Brittany through the vent.

It was very uncomfortable for the three of them to crouch down into a small space to crawl. Brittany inched forward in the small tunnel, lighter in hand. She led the way through and finally found air and a possible exit. “I think I feel air!” Daren said excitedly a ways back.

“Shhhh!” went Brittany as she looked out the vent.

She paused as she could see the man who was banging on the closet door more clearly. He was about twenty meters away and looked busy with the locked door. “I see the person banging on the door.” She whispered back to them. “You were right, it’s not a cop.”

The man was tall and wore a black mask over his head. He carried what looked like a tool kit, and what lie on top of the closed kit was a dagger, silver with jagged edges. Brittany’s breath was caught in the back of her throat. He could be a killer! Or even worse, he was after them because they were targets! “Can you break through the vent?” asked Daren.

“I don’t know, it might attract his attention…” Brittany whispered.

“Keep going through the vents then.” Charlotte spoke. “We’ll get out another way.”

Charlotte’s heart pounded. Why would there be a potential killer at a crashed party? Shouldn’t the cops have investigated the parking garage already? It had been about twenty minutes already.

The three moved through the vents again, the farther they got, the hotter the vent got, and it seemed the lower the ceiling got as well. “I see something up ahead!” Brittany whispered back to the others.

“Alright try to beat the vent open. I don’t think it’ll screw from the other side.” Said Daren.

“All of this right before my night…” mumbled Charlotte.

She had a feeling she should have just stayed home and relaxed tonight. But something had urged her to do something to take her mind off the night before. Now she was trapped in a vent at midnight.

Brittany began banging on the vent until finally it came loose. With one more punch the vent popped open and she crawled out. She was finally on the other side out in a street alley. Charlotte and Daren crawled out next. The three had successfully escaped the building. “Ugh I wonder who that man was.” Brittany spoke before turning to leave the other two.

“I dunno, but he must have been affiliated with cops in some way.” said Daren thinking. “But anyways don’t think you’ll leave that easily. There are cops swarming this building.”

“We should be safe if we sneak down a block without getting caught.” Said Charlotte who wanted to get home as soon as possible.

“I think we can do that…”Daren spoke quietly. “I have a limo about three blocks down from here. It could drive down and get us…”

“Sounds like a plan.” Charlotte spoke.

Sirens began to die down in the night sky for a moment. The three looked at each other and then ran out of the alley and down the street towards the limo…

Part 3

“Are you sure this is okay?” Oliver asked as he walked around the building, a revolver in his hand as he stood watch.

The halls were dark and each corridor seemed to have it’s own ghost watching over it in the shadows. “It’s fine.” Called Joey from the room he stood in searching for tapes. “Just keep guarding the doorway.”

Oliver did as he was told. The sooner he obeyed, the sooner he could go home and lie down. It was creepy this time of night in the old building. “Ah! I found it. Come here.” Joey said rummaging through the files and puling out a tape.

A small television sat on a desk in the office. Joey popped in the tape and pressed play and watched as the television screen flickered. Oliver stood in the doorway averting his eyes to the television. The light made the place even scarier than usual.

The tape began to play. The image of the woman staggering down a hall and two men coming towards her from both directions. As the two men reached here the woman looked as if she was flung out of a window nearby. “That’s not us.” Oliver said. “That doesn’t look like us I don’t think…”

His memory was getting fuzzy. Could he have actually pushed her to her death? “Hey what are you kids doing in here?” a voice from beyond the door called angrily.

Bang! In this startling moment Oliver squeezed the trigger. “What the?” Joey said in shock. “What did you do?”

“It was an accident I swear!” Oliver said.

He wasn’t even sure if he had really squeezed the trigger hard enough to emit a shot, and yet, a shot was heard. There was silence form outside the doorway. Either the man was dead or waiting to attack them back.. The two closed the door to the office and began to think. “Lets leave the other way.” Joey said as he opened another door in the office that led to another part of the building.

“But that man…”Oliver said before following.

Once again he would have to run from a crime scene, only this time he wasn’t sure if he could escape so easily…

Chapter 4: Meetings and Fallings

Part 1

Change has always been the topic on the lips of mankind. Everyone everywhere hopes for a better future. As today’s graduating class wakes up in the morning, some of them will see a bright future full of hope and prosperity, while others can only hope for a shred of light in what’s to come. As for the wealthy graduates of DC, they get the cursed pleasure of experiencing both.

Brittany awoke from her bed with a yawn, pondering the upcoming summer. She would finally be a senior in the next year, and from then she’d probably settle down and become a socialite with her husband. So far, after loosing her v-card at a midnight party, visions of her future were riddled with love, happiness and promise. She pushed the covers off her and rose groggily to meet the sun glaring out of her window.

“Ugh. I hate graduations.” She moaned as she stumbled out of her bed and onto the fur rug below.

She picked herself up and felt her way out into the hall, where she heard noise. As she took one great big yawn she began to walk out to make breakfast. “So where were you last night?” She asked casually walking over to the refrigerator to grab some milk.

Oliver stood in the den with an ironing board and iron and his graduation suit, the television switched to the travel channel. The curtains of the lounge let in the sunlight of the penthouse. “Morning to you too.” Oliver spoke.

He had been awake all night and had found time to iron his gown and suit for the day’s occasion. “You’re ironing this early?” Brittany asked. “Graduation isn’t till 10am. It’s like hours away.”

“Never mind that. From now on you shouldn’t go to parties like that.” Oliver spoke while ironing. “I heard police came and arrested a lot of people.”

“Before or after you ditched?” Brittany joked munching on dry cereal in a bowl while she looked for milk in the refridge.

“I didn’t ditch the party!” Oliver said at an instant having already come up with his lie. “I was kicked out early and never had the chance to tell you guys.”

“Yea, yea, well I’m gonna go get dressed,” She spoke as she left the kitchen heading for the hall to her room. “Big day today.”

“You’re not coming to the graduation?” Oliver asked.

“I didn’t get a ticket!” Brittany said as her voice became faint.

Oliver then heard her door slam shut and then turned off the television. Today he would finally be rid of high school. All of his other confusing thoughts had been pushed back for now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlotte stood in her room at 10am looking at three different dressed lying on her bed. Her huge room seemed littered with clothes everywhere. She was lucky if there was any remote surface left uncovered by the explosion of clothes in her closet. She couldn’t find anything to wear to the graduation after party. It would be the very last opportunity she would have to see her friends again before the busy summer ahead. “Hello Ms. Charlotte?” Her Butler Ross said as he entered.

The well mannered butler stood in shock of how Charlotte’s room had been left. “The ceremony starts any minute now. Your family is waiting in the foyer.” He spoke careful not to step on a blue frilly dress lying near by.

“I’ll be down in a minute.” Charlotte said still gazing at the dresses.

Hearing Ross shut her bedroom door once again she finally chose a white satin dress she had bought a week ago. It was elegant looking and definitely appropriate. Charlotte had nothing on her mind but graduation. After this day her whole life would change. She didn’t even notice that she only got about five hours of sleep that night total: Something that was unacceptable in her book. Picking up her maroon graduation gown and slipping it on, Charlotte was ready for her big day. “Hurry up Char.” Charlotte heard her sister Diana say. “We’re gonna be late.”

“I’m coming, I’m coming.” Charlotte spoke while bumping into her sister on the way out of her room.

“Ouch you don’t have to be rude.” Diana said hitting Charlotte back as they made their way towards the stairs.

Diana was a year younger than her sister Charlotte but she was much wiser in life than Charlotte in her opinion. Diana kept a distance away from her older sister just in case she might get hit back. The two fought a lot, many times to the point of shouting and hitting. Their parents, who are rich from inheritance never got too involved with both children making it very easy for many injustice’s in the house. “Okay let’s go.” Charlotte said as she reached the bottom of the stairs and headed out the foyer past her parents.

Her parents followed behind and Diana watched from the door. “Aren’t you coming?” Charlotte asked.

“No I’ve got stuff to do.” Diana said although she really didn’t care about her sister’s graduation at all.

Why should she attend her sister’s events all the time when half the time Charlotte never showed up to any of hers? “Ignorant.” Mumbled Charlotte staring as Ross shut the limo door.

Georgetown’s flowers and shops buzzed as its open mall filled with people. The sun rose high in the sky and the temperature was a nice 89 degrees. For Brittany it was heaven. She was glad Oliver told her about this shopping scene of Georgetown and as she roamed the streets filled with people she herself had become immersed in a different world: The fashion world. She had been there for just an hour and already and carried 3 huge bags of new wardrobe.

The best thing about it was Oliver’s mother had given her the credit card she used to max on the town as an apology for not getting an extra graduation ticket. She entered a Barnes and Nobel bookstore, interested to see if a new book by her favorite author had come in yet. Literature was something she held very dear and near. She entered the book store and walked straight pass a crowd of people and onto the escalator.

People stopped and stared at the girl wearing torn jeans and a tye-dye shirt, carrying bags from high priced designer stores. She was a sight to behold. The second level of the bookstore was the mystery section. She was walking through looking at books on the shelves when she happened to trip and fall flat on her face. “Ow!” Diana moaned as she thrusted a limb of the girl who had stumbled over her away. “You kicked me in the face.”

“Sorry!” Brittany said embarrassed as she helped the girl up. “I didn’t see you sitting there.”

“People always sit in isles and read books!” Diana said clutching her jaw. “What’s wrong with you?”

“I said I was sorry!” Brittany said as she leaned down. “Here you can have this.”

Brittany set down one of her bags she got from shopping and left quietly, almost scared of the girl’s animosity.

Diana exited the store quickly with the bag the strange girl gave her. She caught a cab home quickly and when it arrived t her house ten minutes later she saw her friend Katie standing at the door. “What happened to your face?” Katie asked in surprise as Diana walked up to the door.

“I was kicked in the face by some lunatic!” Diana exaggerated as she opened the front door to the big mansion. “It all happened in the bookstore when I was reading.”

“You never told me you were going to the bookstore! I wouldn’t have waited here for you for like 30 minutes.” Katie said.

“Yeah but she came out of nowhere with no consideration, kicks me in the jaw, and now I have a stupid bruise.” Diana said furious as she stormed off into the kitchen for ice.

“Well I doubt she did it on purpose-” Katie began.

“Fuck her! That hippie nearly killed me!” Diana said in a rage as she threw the bag she got from her injurer in a corner. “And then tried to offer me something like I’m that poor and pathetic.”

Diana opened a plastic bag and filled it with ice from the freezer, then resting it on her jaw. Katie knowing that her friend wasn’t going to hear a word she said. Picking up the bag off the floor she would take it home for safekeeping for the heated Diana.

“Glad that’s over!” Daren sighed as he walked down the steps of the national cathedral.

Graduates began to pour from the large chapel and crowds began to form. Oliver followed Daren to a spot near the street. “I’m glad it’s over too. No more highschool.” Oliver said gazing out at the Cathedral.

“What are you talking about you only went to school here for like a week!” Daren said taking off his cap.

“It still counts.” Oliver spoke as he heard a loud noise.

Charlotte grasped Oliver’s arm from the crowd of people and Oliver turned into her hug. She stared him in the eyes. “How does it feel being all grown up now?” Oliver asked not breaking eye contact.

Charlotte broke their gaze at the sight of Daren who winked at her over Oliver’s shoulder. “So you two going to the after party?” Daren asked.

“Yea!” Charlotte said as she gave Oliver a quick peck on the cheek. “I have to go change for it! Meet me there?”

“Sure.” Oliver said as he saw her take off towards a limo near by.

“Let’s go I’m late for the company meeting. Try and warn me of events like these.” Oliver’s mother said as she walked over to their limo. “And you can get a ride right? I’m using the limo to get to work.”

Oliver rolled his eyes as his mother took off. He took off his cap and suddenly felt his skull grow cold with a gust of wind. “You can ride in my ride.” Daren said. “I’ll drop you off at your building.”

“Thanks.”

Part 3

Sitting in a diner Brittany stared at the menu of food. She really wanted to meet the guy she was with last night. She remembered the way he touched her, the way he held her, their intimate moment of bliss. She was completely and utterly in love and nothing would stop it. A man from the diner walked over to her. He was tall, with brown hair and water blue eyes. His face was handsome and his hair curled and golden almost like a god. HE walked over to her and whispered. “Hey.”

“Hey.” Brittany said unmoving as she stared down at the menu. “I’ll have a burger with some fries and maybe a-”

“I’m not a waiter.” He chuckled as he held out his hand. Brittany saw him.

By the looks of it he was some sort of perfect god, staring her in the face. He wore white pants and a sweater vest, his muscles visible underneath making a nice shape. Brittany’s breath had left her completely. “You look like you could use some company.” He spoke. “I’m here alone too.”

She froze. What was she supposed to do? “Uhm I’m not interested.” She said sternly.

He backed away slowly. His expression saddened as he walked back to his seat fifteen feet away in another booth. Brittany was proud. She remained true to her lover from the night before. Brittany was determined to marry him. Suddenly almost out of nowhere a girl with long black hair slid into the booth opposite her. “What’s wrong with you?!” Ali said excitedly almost jumping. “Do you know who you just turned down? That was the number 3 greek hottie of the whole city!”

“What?” Brittany was confused by the girl’s approach.

“You must be some kind of tourist the way you just turned him down like that.” Alison said shocked that she was even being this spontaneous. “My name is Alison by the way.”

She held out her hand to Brittany. From what Brittany could tell Alison looked close to her age and very pretty. The two girls shook hands. “Brittany. Do you live around here?”

“Yeah I live on 15th street.” Alison responded. “But still I can’t believe you turned Kevin down.”

“If he’s so hot why don’t you ask him?” Brittany said. “I already have someone.”

“That must be some kind of relationship.” Alison said giggling. “I can’t ask him. He’s way out of my league.”

The two girls began smiling. “So I’m new to the city.” Brittany started. “What’s good to eat here?”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oliver pulled up to his building to get changed for the after grad party. He was ready when suddenly the doorman came up to him. “There was somebody claiming to know you trying to enter your room sir. I drove him away but there have been complaints of a mysterious looking man in the building. Please be careful.”

Oliver racked his brain trying to think of who could possibly be trying to get to him so bad? Suddenly he heard a scream from above. In seconds a body came crashing down on the asphalt. It was a person who had been pushed out of the building, but that was all Oliver could tell. Between the vomiting and the wincing Oliver could tell that the smashed, bloody face looked very familiar.

Character updates coming out soon! :D
