Personally I think its about time this happened. Im a non-smoker and have been round smokers all my life and it seriously does affect me. Im not saying the whole cancer thing, but my skin. The skin around my eyes is very sensertive to smoke, be it from a cigarette or spiff. It dries it up and it becomes flaky and unplesant.

So this for me is a godspend! In pubs I want to enjoy a drink with friends and not inhale smoke, have bad eyes and feel sleepy as a smokey atmosphere can do this to me. Hopefully it will encourage some people to quit smoking and save their pennies ^_^

This isnt an easy task and the Government are trying their best by making people quit. The price of cigarettes has gone up, I know cause I work in a supermarket and now the public smoking ban.

So, what are your feelings on this? Are you an angry smoker or are you a very happy non?

The bans been in affect here in scotland for ages now.
I gotta say it is a good thing i know a hell of a lot of people whove quit because of it.
All the public building smell and seem cleaner. So its a good thing all and all

Its been in affect here for a while. (Ireland)

I agree. It's about time that it happened. It's for the good of the health of the population. Large numbers of people are expected to stop smoking now (obviously a good thing) and those who can't give up have to pay more, so the economy isn't going to take a massive blow.

Have you heard about the man in Southampton who has claimed his pub as his own country, and so therefore doesn't have to obey our laws xD. So he's still allowing people to smoke in his pub. Pretty clever idea.

And an interesting point is this; people are banned from smoking in a workplace, but technically the workplace for a postman is the streets. So technically, people can't smoke there either xD.

I'm a non-smoker and lived with smokers all my life. We've had the ban since March last year and it does feel much better. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against smokers or even being beside them while they smoke but it isn't really nice when you are in an inclosed space with smoke all over the place and not being able to catch a breath. I have gotten use to being around smokers and have no problem if my mates smoke beside me outside but it can get a bit too much inside.

I'm never gonna be a smoker -_- Did you know that smoking shortens your life by 5 min.? and ppl get cancer by smoking? and heart attacks? It is also bad for the environment -_- Thought you should know..

I used too smoke and I feel the pubs are going to lose trade due to the amout of drinkers and clubbers in plymouth smoke. Anyway I recently gave up so I couldn't really care less.

Really, you dont say? Of course ppl know the risks. Please stick to the subject at hand, which is the ban.

At long last it has taken place, I hate the smell of smoke and being around smoke but I know for a fact that some of my 'friends' will continue to smoke in public places and what not.

Finally, you caught up with us.

It's been nothing but beneficial in Scotland so far. The only controversy was pub/restaurant owners and their profits. Although, a large majority say that the other end of the scale are now flooding the venues, i.e. the smokers have moved out and the non-smokers have moved in.

Overall, it's a step closer towards a better life for us all.

Although I'm glad smoking's been banned, I can see why the population is pissed off, it's a choice at the end of the day.

I personally think it's a foul antisocial thing, but people do it.
What next? Banning pubs? Banning wine at mass?
