The Best and Worst Designed Characters

I've posted my opinion before, but thanks to that damned hack I'll have to say it again ¬_¬

Favourites:
Zidane ~ Smug, slightly sophisticated, yet has some spiffy charm. It fits his personality perfectly. And the tail! ^_^ awwwww

Garnet ~ Simple and gracious yet elegant, just like her personality. It's something you might not expect from a princess. A lot of princesses are over the top. And she doesn't look like a Warrior Slut Princess like Ashe ^_^

Vivi ~ He is THE Black Mage, in my opinion. He's so cute and adorable.

Beatrix ~ Her design shows you she isn't a woman to be messed with. She is no damsel. I like the eye patch :D

Vincent ~ Whoa, this guy has that dark, brooding yet freaky atmosphere too him that just appeals to me.

Yuna (X) ~ Gentle and free-flowing, just like her personality. It shows her elegance and femininity (is that a word?) without making her look like a whore ^_^

Balthier ~ Charming and somewhat sporty, which matches his adventurous, Sky-Pirate nature.

Fran ~ To be honest, I like it because she's hawt XD

Penelo ~ I like her design because it makes her seem like a bubbly, boisterous teenager, which is what she is.

Paine (Warrior) ~ I thought her design stood out because it wasn't uber-slutty, like the other default designs of Rikku and Yuna. She looked quite bad-ass too.

Ingus (Freelancer) ~ You could definitely tell that he is a warrior. Smug, but fit for battle.

Arc (Freelancer) ~ I just think that the many layers he's wearing match the way he is very reserved and shy. Fit for his personality ^_^

Edea ~ Her presence commanded attention ... maybe it was due to that thing on her back? XD At least one good design in VIII ...

"Meh" Section:
Vaan ~ It's OK. He could have worn a shirt or something. Those square-abs were weird, though. I like the armour he's wearing.

Ashe ~ Like Vaan, it was an OK design. But she could have worn more than a freaking bright pink belt ¬_¬ For a Warrior Princess, she isn't very practical.

Lulu ~ I liked it ... but it's so impractical. Belts made into a dress? WTF?

Worsts:

To these people, I ask the question: "Were you blindfolded when you got dressed?":

Tidus
Wakka
Jecht
Quina

Now, people I thought were just bland:

Squall
Zell
Quistis
Selphie
Irvine
Rinoa (Slightly better than the others, but not much)

*Prepares for Flames*

My faves:

Sephiroth: Years ago, before FF came into my life, I had a dream of Lucifer/Satan and his appearence was not demonic as the guys who make stuff like Doom would want you to believe. Instead, he had the beauty of an angel, which is what he is actually.
But heres whats interesting, he had long silver hair (i dont remember bangs though I may be wrong), a long black, robe-like coat with black armor in various places, greenish-blue eyes, two black wings that were bird/angel-like and not bat/demon-like tall, lean, piercing gaze. He didnt have the masamune sword, but rather a black lightsaber-ish weapon that had a black hole like feature that seemed to suck light and life out of whatever it struck. He also was in a completely white environment similar to the Cloud dreams in AC.
So you can imagine when I first saw AC and looked upon Sephiroth looking at me while standing in the Hell-like fires of Nehelbiem, I was like "OMG! Its SATAN!!!" Thus, that sealed Sephiroths fate as my favorite all time villain regardless of what anyone else thinks, and KH made me love him more. His design is perfect... the very appearence of Evil; not to mention his wicked personality. That, my friends, is why I love him.

Cloud: The definition of Badass. I like the AC version slightly better, but his original design has its charm as well as a nice degree of simplicity. Oh what the heck, when Dissidia comes out im just gonna love the original design. Then Ill like them equally. I also like Zack and Angeal for the same reasons I like Cloud's original costume, since they all wear similar clothing.

Aerith: I just love the girl *blushes* her AC style moreso than her original design. I liked the pink denim jacket... it was a nice touch

Kefka: Ahh... the Joker of Final Fantasy. Cant wait to see more of him when Dissidia comes out

Squall: Another badass character. looks a lot like a biker, but without the stench of debauchury.

Selphie: Am i the only one that LIKES the girl? she has a very classic 50's look to me, just simply adorable :)

Yuna: I love her designs, both X and X-2 versions... just dont know why.

Okay, now the designs that turn me off:

Yuffie: some "ninja" she is.... come back when you get it right

Barret: Think "Mr. T ripoff".... there ya go

Tifa: Ehh... nothing about her came off as appealing to me, much less her attire.

Vincent: another design that I cant see why everyone loves so much. Looks like a ripoff Devil with a load of Emo... at least thats the vibe I get.

Genesis: Think "Gay Sephiroth". Not to hate on him... I love Genesis, its just... I dunno. Maybe he woulda looked better to me if he had the costume he did at the end of DoC and not tried to copy Seph's design.

A lot of the female villains I cant stand either.

Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo: Oh my god why..... even GAYER Sephiroths!!!

Also not turned on my a lot of the main villains from Dissidia, particularly the hulking, armorclad baddies like Garland.

Well, thats all I can think of right now... Ill see if I can come up with more.

Favorites:

Tifa: This has to be split into two. In the original game, I HATED her attire. Even if it did speak to her character and her living conditions, I wished they would have done somehting better with it. But her personality I will always love. Her optimistic and strong self I have always admired. Her desire to help and protect other simply won me over. In AC I loved her clothing. I wished they would have done something like that in the game but then again there wasn't that much money to go around back then.

Yuffie: I loved her cute teen girl attire. It spoke out as happy and wild. It really did go well with her and her ninja ways! Her attitude was always a mood lift for the plot and it was just plain adorable.

Lulu: Her dress was so elegant in my opinion. It did match her uptight attitude. She did look as if she was a classy lady and the dress did take her there and even added a bit of spice with the belts and such.

Yuna (x): Her outfit, I loved. She was so humble back then and I think that was the only thing that really matched her. In X-2 I think they might as well shot her. Poor thing.

Vincent: I liked his dark attitude and I really think the cloak and such completed him. I don't think it would have been the same with him in somehting other than what he wears. Part of his face and such is hidden and I think that really stands for his history and such. At the time of the meeting in the original game, his entire past is hidden and I think that does reflect on his attire.

Nyeh:

Garnet: At the start of the game I saw her with her nice dress and such and I think that was the look that suited her the best. When I saw her in her...yellow...thing.....I wanted to turn the game off. I don't even know what that thing is! It looks terrible and I don't think she shouldn't wear it. Such a lovely character, too.

Penelo: What the hell is that thing that she's wearing? Is it like a full body suit thing? I dunno, and I dunno how to describe my dislike towards it but yeah...I think she should have worn something along the lines of Talim from Soul Calibur, maybe somehting like that would have made her look better. Oh yeah and maybe her bagns could and should be longer.

That's all I can think of right now.Heehee

Favourites:

In terms of clothing and character (history etc.)...

Seymour (I feel sorry for him a little. :/ I like his tattoos as well. Awesome looking. :P I also thought he was pretty strong when you had the chance to use him. Wish you could've summoned Anima though. Good overdrive)
Vincent (Nice backstory. He's fun to use and pretty strong. I like his choice of weapons too - guns are ace. He looks awesome as well. Yay for capes.)
Auron (Love his swords, love his character. He's cool, he's calm, he's serious business.)
Vivi (Just for the sake of cuteness. :P)
Squall - (I LOVE the gunblade he uses. Absolute badassery. I love his character and attitude, and the way he changes as the game progresses.)

The Worst:

Ultimecia - (Ugh. Rushed much? Hate the way she dresses, hate her character and she doesn't have a good story to her.)
Wakka - (He's alright, but his accent drives me nuts. He's not a good character to use, I feel. And his weapon is a BLITZBALL? Are you KIDDING ME? ..then again, Lulu's are plush toys. :P)
Zell - (He's pretty strong, but he gets on my nerves. Don't really know much to him.)
Vaan (Just plain. Utter. Embarrassing. I thought Tidus is bad, wtf is up with Vaan? Everytime there's a cutscene where he acts retarded, I can't help but skip the scene. He makes me want to cry.)
Tidus - (He got better towards the end of the game, and he has okay weapons. I don't like his character in the beginning though. Just like Vaan, he's embarrassing. "I'M THE STAR PLAYER OF THE ZANARKAND ABES!" ..please, stop it.)
Yu Yevon - (Does he actually count? Oh well. I hate fleas. And he's a completely anticlimatic boss. Die.)
Penelo - (Never used her, never will. She's annoying.)

There's most likely more. Can't be bothered to remember them all though.

Wish you could've summoned Anima though. Good overdrive)

um you can use anima, if you wana know how ask in the help booth

Likes:

Vincent: favourite character out of all, like the design, was disapointed he wasn't in any cut scenes but as a hidden character im not surprised but they more than made up with it in DoC

yuffie: loved the innocent look yet naughty decieftful attitude... reminds me of all my exs

locke: loved the blue look, loved the bandana thing

Basch: i like two of his designs, i like his normal clothing but i prefer the clothes he gets in the barheim passageway

Ashe: i actually really like it, many dnt like it as it isnt "warrior" enough, but you gotta remember she lives in a fricking desert, a suit or armour would only weaken her due to exhaustion

Zidane: he has a lovable look about him, and when i saw his tail wish i had one lol

Garnet: some don't like her design due to noy knowing what it is and think it looks funny, but the game is set in a medievel enviroment with bits of technology, her clothes are designed on things commonly used in that area but modified into a fantasy look.

ill update dislikes soon...

Edge: I thought he was very well dressed for a ninja with the scarf mask and cape thing going. It makes him a bit mysterious to my liking.

Rinoa: I loved her blue duster sweater with the white wing designs on the back and the denim button up skirt. It gave her a cute, adoring look.

Celes: She was one of those character that had grown to me with that beautiful, flowing blonde hair and strong headed personalities.

Auron: He is just an awesome character overall with his look and personality.

As far as least favorite designs, pretty much all of the chaaracters from FFIX because I hated that game except for Amarant (he was the only one I liked). Oh yeah, I also disliked Zell's designed with the ugly baggy shorts and big clown shoes he wore. It annoyed me as much as his personality did.

I think Cloud has a great design. Lulu is kinda confusing... I don't see why she needed 243 belts? Tidus was alright except I still have yet to figure out what exactly the cordoroys were for. Basch was a good design and Auron was great :D

Favourites -

Tidus - i love the clothes he wears they're so bizzare, yet pretty cool
Lulu - same with tidus her outfit was totally different from anyone else, i applaud the designers on designing her.
The turks - what can i say? suit and tie says it all.
The judges in XII looked awesome, i loved their armour it made them look likepeople to be feared.
I think zidanes outfit could've been a little better, i always thought it was kinda weird looking.

Favorites:
Zidane: THe tail, the almost modernized/antiquated pirate, sort of, it was cool
Vivi: The perfect black mage, they should always be like that in FF
Garnet: Not slutty like the chicks later ones
Auron: Just cool, reminded me of Vash from Trigun
Yuna (X): Looked way better in this one than in the second
Wakka: One word: Brudda

LEast favorites:
Eiko: Weirdest looking outfit in all FFs
Quina: Not the worst, and the game wouldn't be the same without s/he, but just weiiird
Lulu: What, were they trying to make an almost porn girl in it?
Jecht: Not sure why, but I didn't care for his looks
Paine: they were trying to bring s&m to the FF series? Looks like the female version of Mad Max (which would be good, if she was in Mad Max)
Kuja: Why did they make him look like a girl?

I know I'll forget a few and I'll remember after I post but...

Best-

Cecil- Both his design as a Dark Knight and as a Paladin did him Justice. I thought the character development was on par with the character design. ^_^

Rydia-I actually liked Rydia when she was grown up. Some people may think that all green is tacky, but I thought it worked well and I'm glad they didn't recycle the idea.

Setzer- What can I say? He's a badass.

Kefka- He's kinda like a clown and his looks definitely reflect his personality. He's a nutcake. But I haven't seen it recycled yet so + for originality.

Vincent- We needed an angsty vampirey guy with a claw somewhere in this series! I'm glad the design was well done.

Quistis- I think her design works well with her personality. We needed an intelligent, powerful woman..with glasses. Somewhere. XD

Irvine- He fits the bill as a ladies man. And any random cowboy is okay with me. :3

Garnet- I liked her simple outfit that covered her well. She appeared to be feminine without having to show much skin. Fitting for a princess.

Freya- Who doesn't love a rat/dragoon thingy? Especially in that outfit!

Vivi- Traditional BLM. <3

Beatrix- Feminine yet powerful. Her outfit suits her well.

Worst-

Aeris- Her oufit in itself is not bad. I do think she looks a LOT younger than she actually is. And in that aspect I find it a bit creepy. D: Older woman who likes pink and flowers a bit..too much.

Cloud- While lots of people like his outfit. I particularly do not... It's a purple overall jumpsuit thingy. D:

Seifer- One scar faced dude is enough. They made Squall and Seifer too similar.

Quina- Ugly...whatever...it is.

Kuja- While it IS original...Definitely more of Kuja than I wanted to see.

Wakka- Who did his hair? I would think that would get in the way of playing blitzball. Not particularly aerodynamic!

Favorites:

Tifa- I loved both her design in FF7 and AC. Her outfit in the original game was seen as "slutty" by some, but I thought it was stylish. Nothing wrong with showing some skin every now and then xD As for AC, I loved how sophisticated her outfit in it was. It really seemed to suit her new lifestyle as a mother/bartender by being both practical and classy ^_^

Cloud- Dude looks badass in whatever you put him in honestly. His outfit in AC appealed to me more though, simply because it was more...personal, more him. His outfit in 7 was just simply a uniform Zack stuck him in; still cool, nontheless, but his AC attire seems to represent the real Cloud a lot better.

Lulu- I really, really loved her dress, mainly because of the skirt made of belts. That was pretty awesome. That, combined with the dark colors really seemed to suit her personality.

Aerith- The pink really seemed to suit her upbeat attitude. The boots, while I didn't like them, were practical considering she lived in the slums. I liked her CC attire as well, it too seemed to compliment her radiant and optimistic personality.

Fran- Her outfit may have been skimpy, but it looked cool. xD

Rinoa- I loved the Angel wings on the back of her outfit, and I loved how they tied that in with the story. I liked the matching arm warmers she had, and her low-cut black boots. Those were great choices for her in my opinion because they made her look just like the creators wanted; cute, not sexy.

Least Favorites:

Vaan: Kid looked way to skinny and sickly. You could count every one of his ribs just about. His face looked...weird as well, and his outfit was just awful. Total miss on this one!

Quistis: I hated the way her hair was arranged and the color of her outfit was just wrong for her. Her outfit wasn't that cute to begin with though, but meh. She could've looked better I think.

Tidus- His outfit was just...bizzare. His chest looked abit strange too, kind of reminded me of Vaan's. Honestly, I think he just had too much going on.

Penelo: I hated everything about her design, from her pigtails to her body suit. She had a really fun personality, but you wouldn't know it by looking at her clothes. I think she should've worn something abit more flirty personally.

Balithier: The pants he wore were just a big no-no. They fit too close to his body in my opinion and made him look a little silly.

I found the shinguards funnier than the toddler bracelets.

But of course, Basch's potholder wins.

Although, I didn't find too much odd with Vaan's outfit; he lives in a desert, and though I would've preferred him with a shirt, I've no problem with him wearing a mini-vest. (they could've done the abs better though, like Basch's. What were they thinking with Vaan's torso?)

Man, what a hard forum to ponder and reply to.
I mean, so much of Final Fantasy is incredibly well designed, no matter new or old. (Though I'll leave the Tetsuya "Too many belts" debate for another time.)

For me, I always loved a bunch of VII's character designs, though they've been redone and copied by so many others.

For example, Vincent and Sephiroth are both wonderfully designed, but nowadays feel just too emo and classically yet generically villain and badass hero, respectively.

Regardless, Sephiroth's awesome black "not-uniform" uniform with the tortured yet youthful face and sweet ivory locks. Haha.

And Vincent's awesome combinaion of red and black with mystery and etc. etc.

I pretty much hate everyone's costume in VIII, save Rinoa. I thought the sweater/spandex-ish shorts looked pretty good. But the rest of them...? (...like overcoat and cowboy hat, or tiny yellow jumper dress...or lame cargo shorts and garish red jacket?) Yeah, not for me.

And, another mention would be Auron's outfit complete with saki. And while I don't like the character, Khimari is very well designed.

XII, too, has some great designs and some terrible ones. Balthier and Fran both look great, yet Asch...just...no...

All of the pre-Playstation FF's have great character design, especially for IV for Kain and Cecil. Both incredible and artistic and beautiful.

As a whole, though, I'd have to say Final Fantasy has always been a well designed series.

Best:

- Lulu. I'm sorry to the people that hated her design but hers has always been one of my favourites. A dress made of belts, insanely cool! Plus I have a fetish for her hair, I really like the array of hair accessories.

- Jecht. I'm not sure why, but I also thought that he just looked 'cool'. Maybe its because he looks and sounds somewhat like a pirate.

- Paine. Cool.... O.k maybe I should elaborate, lol. Maybe I simply have a thing for belts and leather >_> That woman is the bondage queen and looks completely bad ass. I wasn't a fan of the grey hair, but everything else is very kick-butt looking.

- Vivi. Hes a black mage, a mini one but still a black mage and that automatically qualifies him as looking cool. I loved the wide brimmed hate with those lovely, bright eye peering out from underneath.

- Seifer. The coat that he wore was really awesome, I kind of always wanted one after seeing that. As for the rest of his clothes I cant even remember them, just that coat. Plus they managed to always make him look arrogant and I thought that was pretty good considering the graphic restrictions.

- Reno. I'm not sure why, but everytime I saw his design I just thought, wow he is so cool. Despite the fact his personality is a little more on the goofy side.

- Beatrix. I loved, loved, loved her outfit and that eye patch was really neat.

Worst:

- Quina. Omg what the hell was it anyway? lol.

- Ashe. I was wondering how she didn't freeze or bend over and show everyone what she had for breakfast. I mean seriously, she was a freedom fighting princess that look like she had just jumped off the stage dancing pole. Her uptight and 'proper' demeanor really belied her clothing choice. Plus, her face always reminded me or someone that was rather shy or meek, not someone as stubborn and hard-headed as she was made out to be.

- Rikku from X-2. Sorry boys but she looked like a prostitute. Thong hanging out over that tiny strip of material that was supposed to be a skirt (more like oversized belt), barely there bikini top and a massive skarf! Lady if you are cold and need a skarf put on some freakin' clothes, its not that hard, lol. I liked her original outfit, why couldn't they have stuck with that one?

- Steiner. Always thought he looked like a dumb-ass. I know that the graphics were more cartoonish but he looked really stupid. I also hated the way he ran, annoyed the crap out of me.

- Kuja. Always looked like a drag queen.

- Seymour. I hated everything about this guy, his voice annoyed me the most though. But what was up with his chest? I always said he had shaved his chest hair into pretty patterns, lol.
