Okay, so it's 2:30 in the morning here and I've just completed X again. I hadn't played it in awhile so I had forgotten many things. All I can say is what a journey! Definitely one of the most polished games on the PS2 and a gem in the Final Fantasy series as far as story and characters go. Fair enough it is quite linear, but it never feels a chore. The linearity only helps to shuffle you along at a controlled pace so that you can experience the story as it's meant to be experienced.

Anyway, replaying the game made me realise I love every character each for their own thing. Also, the cut scenes within the game are incredibly moving at times and that's what this thread is about. Tell me what scene or part of the game you felt was the most moving.

Mine was either at Home when Yuna's fate is revealed to Tidus and he starts ranting about how he kept saying to Yuna "we can go to Zanarkand." The voice acting in that scene was really good and I could feel Tidus's anguish when he was punching Valefor.

Also, when you finally make it to the Zanarkand ruins and you see the beautiful, destroyed city in the setting sun. Chills. That's also when you find the sphere of Yuna's goodbye which was really well done.

Anyway's I think both those two scenes stood out to me on this play through, so what scenes did you find to be the most moving or emotionally charged?

In regards to the question, I found those two scenes extremely moving, particularly the scene in which
Yuna's fate is revealed to Tidus.

The scene of them around the campfire in Zanarkand is also poignant, and I feel they were clever to use it in the opening to the game.

What about the Spring scene?!
This was more hopeful and upbeat than bitter, but it helped to move the story along. Furthermore, hearing their hopes and dreams for the future, despite Yuna's fate, provided contrast which made Tidus' fate even more tragic! They had believed they could find an alternative, and they did, but they were separated regardless as Tidus faded away.

The ending scene made me cry! :(

Sorry about that. Rookie mistake!

Yeah I agree with the scene you mentioned, but I kept thinking about
Kimahri watching from the bushes and it made the scene more amusing XD

Yeah, the opening scene is something I'll never forget! Whenever I hear the "To Zanarkand" music now I always envision that scene. I need to replay the game again now :gasp:

FF10 is definitely a gem of a game, I agree. So many great aspects, including the music, characters and story, that make me keep going back for more too.

My favourite scenes, and the most moving scenes, would have to be:

The sending scene, which is so sad. The direction that they took with Yuna dancing is simply amazing.

Also, the scene where Tidus and Yuna laugh is both funny and sad, once you know what's coming. I'd better not say any more than that.

Of course, the ending is extremely sad, and it made me extremely relieved and happy to see the secret ending on 10-2.

I dunno. I kinda liked the ending of X... It's bitter, but incredibly beautiful! Its sadness makes it more thought-provoking. One can't help but feel that Tidus has learnt a lot from Yuna too:- he has learnt how to be more selfless, he has learnt about acting for the common good (thankfully not quite in the way Utilitarians argue we should!).

Oh - and they did do something clever in X-2. ;) If you've watched the credits in X and seen the short scene afterwards, you may have noticed that
it shows Tidus waking up underwater, then swimming to the surface. It's the EXACT scene used in the Good Ending of X-2 when he does wake up, which suggests they wanted the audience to ponder over whether Tidus had been returned to Yuna; although one could argue that he is meant to be waking up in a sort of afterlife.

Oh, I enjoyed the ending, and don't think there could have even been one with more impact and emotion. Sadness can be a great thing to evoke in a player when done right (which Square seem to be really good at doing).

I've played through the game loads of times and never noticed that bit after the credits...and I'm sure I would have sat through the credits at least once. That's an odd one, is that. I guess x-2 clears up the theory of the afterlife, eh? :D

I definitely would of preferred it if X-2 hadn't been made :P Not to say it was boring and I didn't play it, but for me it kind of cheapened X :( Not everyone will agree of course, but when X finished I felt fulfilled! I though "yeah that was worth over 60 hours of my life!" Then X-2 was released and like all sequels (besides a notable few) it couldn't compare to the original.

Basically, I like endings that are ambiguous so I was personally very happy with X's ending. The X-2 ending was something that should of been speculated over by the fans rather than shown. Of course that's just my opinion

I could go on forever and ever about how much I love FFX-- the plotline was so unique and it was executed perfectly. I'm a sucker for things that make me cry, I love it when things move me, and, well, hot damn, FFX did all that and more :P

I love every character too. I loved the bittersweet ending and while I feel like X-2 cheapened it a bit, part of me goes "well you know what? Even though I loved X's sad ending, Yuna went through hell and back rescuing the world from certain destruction twice now...
she deserves to have him back.
"

For me, the saddest scene was on Gagazet, where
Rikku tries to stop Yuna
. Also,
Yuna's goodbye sphere, where she talks about how she met each of her guardians.

Spira is my favorite FF world, it's so detailed... I ran across this recently while looking for a picture of the glyphs/sigils: http://www.squidoo.com/final-fantasy-x-symbols-glyphs

how cool is that? :D

Right?? Reading through that made me realize just how much thought was put into this game...

Tears of blood! Many lives were lost in the making of this game...

haha no I agree though. It's one of the few games that strikes a balance between the storytelling and the side quests etc. Where as a game like XII was all about equipment and secret bosses and less about a story.

I think I'm going to be replaying X when I'm 80. Telling my grand kids "this is what it was all about in my day kids!" While they fly around on hover boards and all their games are virtual reality...

Yuna was like shaking her head, not wanting Tidus to leave. But at the end Tidus still jumped off the airship and I gasped for a moment. What a love story.... =)

Thanks and happy posting! ^_^

The fear that sin striked in all spira is really felt in the game, and the game did a great job compensating the fact that the exploration was cut in order for linearity and still feel FF.

The thing i dont understand is that most people say that this is one of the easiest FF, while i find this one hardest than the PS1 era FF and FF 5 and 6.

It must be because in FF7, FF8 or FF9 the exploration made it much easier for you to level up. Therefore, when you actually get to play the main story, for the most part you are already a t a level higher than what the game demands from you. In FFX , however, since the game is pretty much straight forward, the leveling up process feels more like a chore.

you know i am gonna admit this.. this game made me cry... the ending made me cry..it really did.

this game visually was stunning. prolly the best visuals of any ps2 game released.

the scene that struck me the most and really pulled emotion out of me was the end of the game scene.. you kinda knew something was coming when the game was progressing and you learned about the fayth. i remember when X-2 came out. i did not go to art school that day because i went and got that game and played it.. i was thinking to myself "that is not the way the story ends" so i played X-2 hard core.

That may be the reason but still i dont know how most people find this game easier as lets say FF8 when in 8 you can end a boss Battle in one minute (And witouth being overleveled)

I also thought the world of Spira was very polished and it generally felt just a nice place to be. I don't know what it was but everywhere you went felt as if it could be somewhere on earth, just a little more magical. Places like Besaid, Kilika Woods, Moonflow and Macalania all had a warm, inviting feeling to them which were created by a combination of both the graphics and the soundtrack which were both spot on.

Yes, the world of Spira may be more linear than all the other FF's up until this point but I don't think it really spoilt the game. I mean I would have liked to explore the rest of the world off the beaten track a bit more but I can't complain too much.

I've only played on X once but I really think I should replay it at some point in the future.

X - the last TRUE FF

Oh, I agree with you. Not many people appreciate how much thought and effort has been put into this game. The details of the language of the Al Bhed, the three scripts (mentioned in the article you posted), the religion, the cultures......

Square Soft really did create this world that is so detailed and that makes it that much more real for the players. It's amazing.

And thank you for sharing that link. It was a very awesome read.

-SPOILER FREE:-

I thought the ending was absolutely beautiful. Not only the CGI, but the actors seemed to have their stuff together the most when doing the voice over, and the music just completed it. I teared up when I beat FFX. Absolutely rewarding and memorable experience. The gameplay was also great, and so were the areas. Totally worthy of being a great Final Fantasy title.
